a succinct summation of my feelings. Its beautiful and technically astonishing. but entirely pointless and feels a bit meaningless.

Watched the original animation a few nights ago, for the first time. Then downloaded the new version, skimmed through it and thought, "Why???"

That really is the heart of what i found so underwhelming about it. Why? What was the point of making it again exactly the same? why not follow Sarabi or Nala's story more? Why not explore a different aspect of it. But in doing it basically shot for shot, it makes it a weird lifeless beautiful nature documentary with a 90's Elton John soundtrack.

Well I think the remake gave me that same nostalgic feeling as the 1995 film kinda

I'm glad that it did work for an audience, and i'm glad you found that nostalgic hit in it. It just never quite caught me and i wish it had.

Seen many clips of this useless soulless remake which is just the same shit i've seen, i'm not paying for it and sticking to the classic! i didn't pay for dumbo and Aladdin or Beauty and the Beast, Jungle Book was nice though but Aladdin Beauty and Lion are useless soulless remakes only done for cash. I doubt in 20 years anyone will remember Lion King and Beauty remakes where the disney animated originals continue to stand time's test

I skipped Dumbo, it looked really weird and unpleasant. i have no desire to watch it at all. I loved the Lion King animated so this film really bugged me at how completely empty and useless it felt. It's pretty and as a technical achievement, impressive. but as a story and as musical its a really empty experience. Aladdin was better, but still felt like it missed the mark by a wide margin. And now we get Lady and the Tramp coming soon, 101 Dalmations again, how long until it's the live action remake of Sword in the Stone?
