Do Wolves like Snuggles?
Honey loves her belly rubbed, pets, and neck itches. But if I grab her and hold her in my lap or lie down with her and wrap my arms around her she might tolerate it for 3 seconds before she up and walks as far away from me as possible. 🐺 ❤️ 🐾

Oh my gosh, our wolfdog Jake does the same thing. When he was a puppy, he'd growl when I'd rub his belly. At first, I thought he didn't like it, but then I looked at his body language. He was just purring like a kitty. ❤️ 🐾

Edited: Apparently for this blunt comment I made about a month ago is getting people riled up that I said "It's okay to get a wolf as a pet" but I only said that wolves and dog are just lovely animals in general. Didn't even tell explicitly or implied that people should own a wolf in their lives even though they are classified as exotic animals that need special conditions to even take care of and that's not cheap nor easy to do. @@bobandthewolfdogsused to know one, she would hold you with one leg when seated , like those dogs that are obsessed with giving their paw, or lean a lot ,very reserved creature , barely made noise expressive but hard to read at times , liked to stand up and use you for balance but didn’t get excited or lick, she’d just stand there for some reason, and grip you at arms length, with a sorrowful look.

i also think that perhaps contrary to popular belief, it may have been female humans first bonding with female wolves like this. since they say we are supposedly less aggressive. maybe not, maybe so. but if you believe the stereotype is true, it follows women probably tamed a lot of animals through skills at showing affection 🤔 especially when a female wolf trusts a woman enough to introduce you to her pups! now you have a whole litter of wolves that are socialized around humans. and the domestication process flows from there !

@@mp5249I think the video is more to show what kind of interactions that tame wolves might like, or at least tolerate, that people also do with actual pet dogs. Nobody was saying the animal in the video is a dog. Wolves are at least a cousin species of domestic dogs (there is debate over whether they're actually the domestic dog's ancestors, but I'm leaving that aside for this comment), and in the canine family, after all. There are also tame foxes out there who like dog-owner type interactions, too.

Really depends on the dog. Our one boy is the biggest cuddlebug and thinks almost everyone is his best friend. He is still mostly a momma's boy when it comes to bedtime cuddles but he loves on everyone. Our other one is what I call a blanket baby she wants to be under a blankie whenever and if you have one of her favorites she is more likely to cuddle. Again she is 100% a momma's girl but it was just kinda just me and her for a several years.

Someone brought a wolf that looked just like this (but bigger) into discount tire, he was the sweetest "dog" I've ever met. He howled at every person that walked in, looked you right in the eye, and demanded pets from every single person in the store before he left. The owner was super patient, taking like a half hour out of his day to let 2 dozen people pet his wolf dog. There's not a lot of dogs I'd want to own, but I would've taken him home in a heartbeat and named him Balto.

I adopted a dog that had received very little affection. She was not mistreated but she was unused to being petted and so on. That was 18 months ago. Over time and with the example of my other dog she now eats it up and enjoys and "requests" the pets, snuggles and so on. I think this is true for just about any canid.

We adopted a Corgi that had been kept as an outdoor dog with very little attention, it was heartbreaking to think how anyone could do that to a companion animal. Anyway, he slowly came out of his shell and he now enjoys the attention he gets as a couch potato, especially belly scritches.

@@mergat2970some people are so cruel. My mums friend ran a rescue and my mum had to go and collect a poor dog (beagle/pug cross... a puggle) that lived in a cage. She was skin and bone, her claws were so long she could barely walkand was losing fur. My mum couldn't let her go and adopted her. Shes now the sweetest, cuddliest dog and she has to constantly be snuggling you. The previous owners wanted rid of her and told the rescue that they were going on holiday and would leave her if she wasn't collected asap. Awful people

It just depends on the type of bond you have, wolves will tend to face away from you more but that's actually pack mentality and means they are protecting you. Also if a wolf or a dog leans into you that's how they actually hug and show affection aside from grooming you.

@@BunxanaNo, we need to start normalizing asking for proof/sources when information is being given. A large part of it is I personally feel, on the person asking when it comes to internet comments, but a good pointer in the right direction is always nice. Also, they weren't passive aggressive at all. They asked in literally the nicest way possible even said please and thank you, lol.

I was wondering about that, I met someone with a greyhound at the home depot, and I gave her some pets, which she totally ignored, so I stopped and I carried on my conversation with her human, but after a few seconds I felt a pressure on my leg and she was leaning/pressing up against my leg so I started some pets again, and THEN she finally acknowledged me!

@@poopbutt6241 yeah exactly. also all wolf dogs are different and it also depends allot on how you raise them. small dogs for example are not aggressive because they are inherently more aggressive it's more because they are so small that nobody corrects them and just think it's cute while a bigger dog people make sure they raise them more properly as they are much harder to control and people actually give a fuck about their behavior.

You are a great owner. You know and respect their limits/boundaries, and understandings. I inherited a mistreated pup (Shephard/mix), I gave it it's space. Gentle guidance and lots of love on her terms. It took a year before she came around. Best , loyal, kindest, friend I ever had. Time, patience, love, and gentle direction, works wonders!

MANY traditionally wild animals can be tamed in the right circumstances. Wolves and Big Cats and stuff are completely chill around a person if that person has been part of their whole life. Most cases like these where you see a person snuggling or having friendly interactions with a wild animal like this are nearly universally cases of "This person helped raise this animal", and all the people in the comments surprised that it's not eating the person's face don't seem to understand this.

Only females wolves, apparently. Because females have that protective instinct. Apparently you cannot pet a male one, because it will always be in competition for the alpha spot. But I'm not so sure, I only hear it in a KZfaq clip (there's this guy who explains that had a wolves as pet is difficult, because they won't leave your side for nothing. Like you cannot even be like "I'll be right back, going to the market"

Wonderful! A number of years ago my sister-in-law alerted me to a Wolf-Shepherd mix that had been turned out of her home by an abusive owner. I went there, had a bunch of treats, lured her into my car. Wound up adopting her. Sweet, sweet, wonderful, loving dog. Miss you, sweet Heidi.

Wolf dogs are amazing. I've had 2 in my lifetime and one of them their mom was first gen domesticated and she was am absolute lover so I knew her son would be amazing and he did not disappoint. ❤ so loyal and protective, I would do it again.
