It's a good move, the Canadiens have no shot at making the playoffs so next best choice is bringing in someone who will let the players play and show everyone how good they can be if allowed to actually play their game. They can always retool and bring in a new coach this off season or next, probably best to keep St. Louis next year too though as he'll let the #1 pick play to their talent rather then rush them into a system their first year

It is outside the box thinking. Whether St-Louis is there for the long haul remains to be seen but, in the meantime, it is a breath of fresh air. I think that the Habs' locker room needs that right now.

Do I think Ducharme was a great coach? No. But there are several inaccuracies in just the first 2 minutes of this video (looking at you, Adam 😉). Price was excellent, but he didn't drag us to the Finals; Vasilevskiy played better throughout the playoffs, won the Conn Smythe and no one's saying he "carried" the Bolts. And the Habs did not look "WAY BETTER" when Ducharme went into protocol; we swept the Jets with Ducharme behind the bench the entire time! Absolutely mopped the floor with them. For the record, I'm happy that we replaced him and think he definitely lost the room this year, but I don't see the point in giving him negative credit for the things he did do well just to prove how right you were.

@KHR24C 2 жыл бұрын
Price had a .942 and 1.49 in that series. Then a .933 and a 2.10 against Vegas. Not saying the Habs didn't outplay them but to say Price wasn't the main factor is, well, strange.
@AlexandrMTL
@AlexandrMTL 2 жыл бұрын
@@KHR24C "Price was excellent" - Me I don't deny that Price was a huge part of our run, but it's annoying to hear people keep saying how he was the only reason we made it so far. Even with average goaltending, we still beat the Jets. We dominated them in every single available metric (goaltending included).

I totally hate Jesse’s tank mindset btw. Any team that lets their team get destroyed and doesn’t have good structure and culture in place won’t just magically be fixed by a draft pick. You need the right culture for that player to come into right away so you can develop them properly

Marty is kent guy. He said it at the press conference, he wants to coach for as long it can last. The management is going to see how it plays out until the end of the season. If marty is able to keep this team competitive in loses, I believe he'll return next season, marty said he's been preparing for this moment for 7 years, and he's here to prove his doubters wrong

I'm curious how he could have prepared for this job in the last 7 years when he hasn't even coached a minor team.... He was a special teams consultant to the Blue Jackets. That's it. He could turn out to be a great coach, but it won't be based on preparation lol.

I personally like the Marty move. It brings in leadership and experience which has been lacking the entire season. But it is even more important now even in a losing season to not lose moral and completely destroy any of the young players confidence moving forward. As for coaching, maybe Marty’s the bench coach ever! Maybe he’s average, or maybe he’s terrible, but as an interim coach allowing him to give his advise to develop players, worst case scenario, he’s done at the end of the season.

Guys. I agree, Ducharme was out of his depth, but Leafs fans have to stop acting like teams shouldn’t have lost against the Habs because they have one of the best goalie in the league. That’s why he’s getting paid 10.5M. Your team choses to pay Austin M that amount because he’s one of the best goal scorer. It’s different strategies. I guess we should just say that when a team loses against the Leafs, it’s because of Austin M, not because the team is good.

Montreal has been to a cup final(last year) and won the Cup - last time in 93'. The leafs, haven't even been to a Stanley Cup final since 1967!!! and have only been to the conference finals ONCE since then. I love how leaf land loves to rip everyone else, when it's clear they're the most embarrasing organization in hockey since before these guys were even born. Cheers to more failure and another rebuild in a few years guys lol

I think it's a great move to get rid of Ducharme but you guys are missing one key element. Marc Bergevin wasn't lazy in this hiring of Ducharme at all in my opinion. I feel like the majority of Canadiens fans felt it was a great move to hire Ducharme. He was a successful junior coach winning a memorial cup with a well known star forward of the Canadiens....Drouin. So It didn't work out with Ducharme but at the time it was a decent hire. We also forget the fact Bergevin was a great GM. We speak about him so poorly now that he's gone. He made great moves, unfortunately it did not translate to a stanley cup but this doesn't mean he was lazy or a bad gm. I think he was great and probably one of my favourite GMs. I hope he gets another shot to be GM somewhere soon.

Pat Quinn. Great coach? Had great teams. Zero Stanley Cups. Why? No system. Give Marty a chance in Mtl. I think he’ll be a positive force for their younger players. Sure, he’s a HOF’er but for a long time he was told he wasn’t an NHLer b/c of his size. If anyone can get guys to play with a little chip on their shoulder, it may be Marty.

players don't like systems, the good players are restricted. the poorer players are brought into the fold by a system but it brings the better players down to their level to cover their mistakes. if you let the good players play then at least you can see what these players can do. in doing that then you know where the holes in your team are and can set a course to rectify them. systems don't work.

What did you guys expect with Cole? He was shield by a Big 4 Defense that everyone was scared to dump and chase against plus carey playing the puck. He could just steal pucks in the netural zone. Now with Weber gone, No big 4 D and the top Center not winning as many faceoffs as Danault, every line gets exposed. It's exactly the same as my issue with the Matthews and Marner Line during a 7 game playoff series, throw 3 big Forwards that can skate and hit and just have them shadow the small guys. Forget about scoring, anytime the line throws a big Hit thats a +1.

I beg to differ - what team will win with 50% of the starting roster unable to play and you're forced to play your 4th tier goalie ? When Ducharme had Danault - Weber - Price and everyone else , he still brought the team to the finals. Martin is "an interm" coach to just get them to finish the season and they added a new goaler to the mix to help. The real next coach will come in the off season.
