Can we just acknowledge that video games offer more health benefits compared to watching TV? Especially to the brain and how it can actually improve certain aspects of it. Things like faster reaction times, better memory, being able to process information and learning different mechanics. Because games are built to be interactive and require the player's attention. Movies/Television can't really provide the same benefits.

Not only that but so many games and anime have so much more heart and soul put into them than the garbage hollywood and streaming services are spitting out these days. Most of my favorite characters I've grown to love and most of the best stories ever written are from video games and anime imo. I've been a gamer my whole life but I'm fairly new to anime. I honestly never gave anime a fair shot because i thought it was just cartoons, kids stuff....boy was i wrong. From what i've watched so far, the characters are and writing is so much more mature, engaging and well thought out than any cringe worthy marvel movie or netflix show ive watch in recent times.

I'm a 41 year old woman & I've been playing games since I was 4 years old, starting with space invaders. I still play video games (daily) & always will. Ranging from RPGs, to horror, to platformers & most other genres. I've had the same criticisms & it's ridiculous to me that others look down on video gaming so much. I'd far rather sit & play a game where I can interact within the world, experience a great story, and become immersed, or just have my skills tested, over sitting and watching soaps and reality TV for hours, which i find to mostly be drivel. Fair enough if you enjoy that, but how is that and any other hobby superior over gaming?

When I was younger, I used to hide the fact that I played world of Warcraft and watched anime from the people around me. Now that I’m older, I still hide it. If I had to put words to it, I think it’s like saying you like riding bicycles with a pointy helmet and spandex. It’s not so much the bike as it is the type of person behind that bike. Somewhere along the way, I decided I wanted to be a guy that enjoys anime and video games, not a guy that tells people about anime and video games

Sounds like she's one of those people who aren't really happy and they have to tear down others who are. My family is the same when it comes to the things I buy such as games,movies and collectibles simply because of all the things they buy like clothes,shoes, jewelry and etc doesn't fill up that hole they have and to see others actually enjoying things they like to them it's a waste of money and it bugs them. @juiceala

@@trident8 Gold advocates keep bringing up the value in price when reselling it but who said I want to resell my Playstation? I wanna use it and outside of reselling gold I have no usage of it, it's literally just a shiny rock I can't eat it if I'm hungry but I can eat an apple so to me if I'm hungry an apple is more valuable than a shiny rock, value is very subjective and not everyone is interested in reselling let alone has access to do so.
@trident8
@trident8 4 ай бұрын
@@juiceala Purpose of gold is long-term investment while PS5 is strictly for entertainment that'll become worthless in a few years so you really can't compare the two. The apple analogy makes no sense since value of a gold will allow you get way more than just one apple. That'll only apply in a hypothetical end-of-the-world situation but we live in reality where theres abundance of food.

It’s not about games od judging other people. It’s about shallow world view. There was a study about our measurement of work we do that showed that everybody think that they are doing more work. So much so, that the overall percentage of the work done, based on self estimates of the participants, exceeded 100%. Waaaay off. The theory of why we do that is that we perceive our work differently than other. We ser all the work we do, but not all the work other people do. So naturally we think that we’ve done more than others. It’s the same with hobbies. We see our hobbies, we like them, we associate emotions with them. What other people do in their free time is unknown to us so it seems less interesting, and less justified. We have a shallow world view build around ourselves. To change it, and understand that different people like different things and thats completely ok, we need to start thinking more about others. To put it another way - our selfishness makes us hypocrites. Stop talking about yourself, start asking questions, show interest in others and sooner or later other peoples hobbies will become understandable and normal. Even if we still won’t like it.

They helped me come out of dark headspaces brought about by CPTSD, and the depression/anxiety combo it brings along for most people. If anything (I know it's a stretch, but I'm playing by these people's logic here), I could say that while watching TV you're just sitting there gawking at a screen, whereas with a video game there's some actual engagement between you and the game, a lot of the times accompanied with the fact that you're online in a conversation with someone.

I am glad that Alanah talk about it because to me there are people that say video games is a waste of money but then some of them are the ones to spend hundreds and even thousands on their car to make to sound and look the way that they want just to drive to a car meat to show it off. Then when they get tired of that car they buy a new or used car that they haven't or had owned in the past to do the same crap to it again. Like what was said, Its no different then buying and playing video games. I have had friends and family say that I need to grow up and do something else than play video games yet they turn around and watch football, racing or go eat out and have drinks and end up spending more money than I do on video games.

There is value in the argument more recently though. A lot of major games have been skinner box live service drivel that is literally designed to WASTE your time. It's like these developers heard all these people talking about how video games are a waste of time and they said "hold my beer"

I am so glad that more and more people are speaking about this. We all have hobbies, what makes gaming any different from sitting down and watching your favorite sports team win? Or building a model? Or play poker? Or even gamble? Nothing, the answer is nothing. We all got hobbies, and as long as it aint hurting anybody then why dog on what people like?

My grandma got mad at me once when I told her I had bought some video games when I traded older ones for money. She told I could have spent it on clothes, food, anything but. That 1 hurt, but it's not like I took what she said to heart. I still buy games, consoles, gaming accessories. I don't care what anyone says. I'm going to be a gamer until I can't literally do it, or until I die.

I'm 43 and have hundreds of games in my collection I have bought and collected ever since I was 13years old. I play games from the past up to current consoles. I play on my steam deck too. I want to get immersed in something else. I can't afford to take vacation so my games are my retreat. And I get enjoyment to have my wife and daughter play with me too.

I come from a long line of gamers. My dad was a arcade cabinet freak, mom played Atari and my sister was the SEGA master system. I basically have it in my bloodstream at this point. since the Genesis I’ve been gaming for almost 30 years now and I don’t plan on stopping until I get arthritis or go completely blind and even then I still have my phone if I ever get desperate enough to emulate old games on it

I (39) take my Switch OLED to doctors' offices all the time to play puzzle games while I wait. If I'm not there for myself then I'm usually taking my 76yo mother to an appointment, and she also takes her Switch Light to play Animal Crossing or Clubhouse Games. Neither one of us have ever gotten a weird look for it. I've never gotten _any_ looks at all, actually; it's just a non-issue like taking out a book or your phone. I agree with System Hunter... It's probably the now decades-old age of the devices, not the fact that it's gaming hardware. 🤷‍♀️
