Like if I tap my fingers together on my right hand 5 times I’ll do that on my left 5 times but if I do it like 6 on accident I’ll do it once on my right hand again. Its almost like I have to do it. This is not OCD. While some people who suffer from OCD do have more trouble with imperfections, it isn’t quite as simple. While it is different in each individual, it goes a little more like: “If this triangle isn’t perfectly like the other ones, then I’m going to die in a certain amount of time. I NEED to fix it. I’m going to die, my family is going to get hurt.“ Maybe it seems stupid and it’s easy to disregard those feelings for most people- but for those with OCD, it makes their lives hell, painful, terrifying, and full of constant worry. I wake up every day and I need to perform certain tasks and say certain words within a specific amount of limited time to make sure that my dog doesn’t die. It’s not quirky or cool, it’s upsetting and depressing.
@mellohi10262 жыл бұрын
Thank you, this was such a good explanation. I feel like ocd is one of the most miss understood and most stereotyped disorders. It is so so difficult to live like this and a lot harder than what people imagine it to be. When I was a kid, riding in the car, I would click my teeth every time the car lined up with a driveway, or a sign, or a post. I couldn’t read for an entire year because I would count the spots between letters. And you can’t forget what happens when you lose track of your numbers. That’s going to kill your sister and get you kidnapped. And doing too many, that will get your friend in a car accident. I wish you luck on your journey with OCD and thank you for sharing, so just a few more people know how horrible it can be.

As someone who has OCD, I can clarify that OCD isn’t just “being clean” or “things that must be perfect” those are just more commonly known/stereotypes. This isn’t really an “OCD” test it’s more of a spot the difference.

We’re you diagnosed? I was diagnosed with OCD and what you said is true.
@TheRCAirsofter Жыл бұрын
@Everybody Smile! Lots of people self diagnose. If you look in the comments you can see about 20 people who claim they have OCD. I doubt all of them are diagnosed, which in my mind is the only real way to tell if you have it or not. I was diagnosed 7 years ago and it makes me mad when people self diagnose. Not saying this person is though.
@TheRCAirsofter Жыл бұрын
@minyoonji93 it does make sense that there are people saying they have OCD, but the amount of self diagnosing here is crazy. “I don’t have OCD but..” And about people not being able to be diagnosed: most people have access to even a free therapist. If they don’t, as far as they know they don’t have the disorder. I have OCD myself (diagnosed) and it pisses me off when people self diagnose.
@Kelontro11711 ай бұрын
Exactly, as someone with *diagnosed* aspergers and mixed adhd (add and adhd were combined into a spectrum a few years ago) and CPTSD (complex post traumatic stress disorder, look it up) it’s annoying how my generation romanticized mental illnesses for attention and clout and how they feel the need to victimize themselves or publicly (what seems like) show off their fake diagnoses in attempts for a pat on the back when in reality that’s the last thing someone with those issues would do unless it’s to educate or do a “you’re not alone” kind of thing but even that is rare, because now when genuine people that struggle with mental illnesses or anything as such go to open up about it with people (not publicly on social media for the planet to see) no one believes them or they’re ignored because the mass population is faking them, those cry babies and frauds are actually legitimately but unintentionally alienating the real people who struggle, because no real person with depression disorder would actually go “oohhh, i have depression….” out loud in the middle of class so all her gfs console them (a real example a friend told me about), also people like to use those illnesses as a cop out or as an excuse to stay where they are and expect handouts from others, yes ofc some diagnoses limit one’s ability to do certain things, but remember “…it’s okay to be weak, but it’s not okay to *stay* weak..” -not my quote, even if you stay in the same spot due to limitations as long as you push and try to get somewhere or do better you are absolutely NOT weak and stronger than some (or maybe most) neural-typical people (people without mental disorders)
@LifeInSonaria10 ай бұрын
@@TheRCAirsofterI’m interested on why you so heavily dislike self-diagnosing. I understand that you could be frustrated if people simply do it for attention or to get sympathy points, but for me, while I don’t have OCD, I believe I have autism/are somewhere on the spectrum. I’ve gone to a therapist since I’ve been little and my parents and therapist agree that I likely have autism based on symptoms, things I do, how I react, and the fact I have Sensory Processing Disorder (which is diagnosed) and is closely linked with people who have autism. I may not be properly diagnosed but I still claim I do/likely do have autism to help me get the adjustments for me, I carry earmuffs wherever I go and will need breaks if I’m overstimulated. It’s not for attention or anything but to help me live safely and happily in the world. I don’t know if for OCD it’s different when people are undiagnosed and claim to have/likely have OCD, I know it’s very well known but also incredibly misunderstood so I could see that possibly being why. Simply curious here, as I don’t know much about OCD and you seem, based in your comments, to be a decently reliable source.

Theres diferent types of OCD, mostly intrusive thoughs, which cant be pointed out in this "test"
@georgia69472 жыл бұрын
I suffer from OCD. It isn’t all about neatness and patterns and cleanliness. It’s pure torment every day. Intrusive thoughts about hurting myself or others, being locked in rituals such as knocking in intervals of four, checking and re-checking 20 times if the door is actually locked, randomly waking up one day and being convinced that if your feet don’t perfectly align with the floorboards everywhere you step that you will cause nuclear warfare. My room is a mess because I’m too focused on trying to tell my brain that I won’t cause a catastrophe for using the wrong fork or for touching a certain spot on the wall. We need to stop using OCD as a synonym for perfectionism. It’s pure hell.

A little tip to anyone struggling with REAL OCD: I personified mine. I made him into a whole character. I gave him an appearance, a name, a personality. He is made of darkness and shadows with devil horns, and wears a little top hat for some comedic effect. His name is Iggy, and he has come to represent all my negative thoughts into one being. He is hateful, and allows me to seperate the thoughts from my own. I find it so much easier getting angry at this imaginary character than myself. It gives me the strength to push back at him and fight the compulsions he tells me to do. Sounds a bit silly, I know, but it helps me a bunch. When I’m about to do something that takes a lot of strength, I say out loud “F*ck you Iggy!!”

I have OCD but it is not like this. OCD is having nasty thoughts all the time that you can’t get rid of (thoughts about things that you would never do like I would never purposefully harm animals as I am very much an animal lover but occasionally I will have thoughts like strangle my dog which I would never do and I was just stroking my dog and then suddenly this thought pops up into my head and then I get scared of myself because I feel like I am a monster for having that thought), endless ticks (that take up at least 1 hour of every day), excessive handwashing, cleaning everything, fear of getting ill, and finally everything needing to be precise and correct and in perfect order. And this video was only a short and unreliable test about the last one.
