NEW 5-Minute Crafts reaction: • The WORST 5-Minute Cra...
I was pretty harsh in my critique of Five Minute Crafts when I took a look at their first-aid hack earlier this year, but since then they’ve put our some new videos with new hacks on how to keep your body in fighting shape. So today I figured I’d see if they’ve improved their medical accuracy or not. We talk about bee stings, bandaids, blisters in your heels, doctor’s visits, getting kids to take medicine, teaching children to wash their hands, headache cures, treatment for heartburn, sleep tips, cleaning your ears, back pain, anxiety, cleaning out your eyes, drinking water, cleaning your pores, and so much more. Which clips did I miss? Let me know down below!
I LOVE reading your comments and take your suggestions seriously. If there’s a subject you want me to discuss or something you’d like for me to react to, leave a comment down below. Many of my videos have been born out of suggestions directly from you, so don’t hold back!

As a parent it is OBVIOUS Dr. Mike doesn’t have kids. If he ever becomes a parent he would immediatey have a different opinion than he has now. If I’m with my kid constantly I don’t need to bond with them 24/7. Being on a swing means I can get a couple minutes of some semblance of conversation with friends via phone. Only thing that mom did wrong is that she couldn’t swing her child AND look at her phone at the same time.

@@FishoD Yeah, but that's kinda the whole point - you can't look at your phone and push your child at the same time. If it's not a work-mergency, or life-death situation, it wouldn't kill you to put the phone down for five minutes and fully engage with your child. For 5 minutes. Your social life will not collapse within that time. Also, I refuse to believe that anyone who has a child, or at least a child they acknowledge and care for would say "it" over "them."

I have a hiatal hernia and i wish all i had to do to was switch my laying position during a flare up. It really takes a controlled diet, and medication, or surgery if it’s bad enough to control it. I would love to see some kind of collab between Dr. Mike and Ann Reardon of "How to Cook That" (probably virtual, as she lives in Australia), as she does a lot of videos debunking hacks, especially from content farm sites like 5-Minute Crafts. You could even make it more "fun" by having Ann try to figure out what exactly is wrong on the medical hacks, and Dr. Mike try to figure out what's wrong with the baking/cooking hacks. She recently had KZfaq take down her video warning people about the dangers of fractal wood burning, while leaving up the actual fractal wood burning videos she was warning about, so she could use a boost in viewership that could come from such a collab.

About the lemon essential oil one: citrus essential oils contain limonene which dissolves rubbers and grease pretty well (was used to clean engines and bikes a while back). That’s why it pops the rubber bands. If you want to witness it you can peel an orange close to an inflated balloon it will pop if any of the oil gets in contact with the rubber! It’s pretty toxic and corrosive in large quantities or if it’s pure enough, like most essential oils though.
@kylascraftykhaos

The limonene makes a lot of sense. That's the one they extract from citrus for cleaning products and makes citrus less ideal for compost, right? ...I kinda wanna try that balloon experiment now, but I hate making waste with balloons. But I've also found that almost any oil I use in the ends of my hair will break those tiny elastics down overnight. Even just olive oil.

Actually, getting the kid to pick the bandaid can be a life hack. If you need your kid to do something, telling "you have to do this" might end up with fighting, but giving them two seemingly different options that eventually lead to the same desired outcome will make the child psychologically think they made the choice and they will feel appreciated and feel happier about it. Even if it's just to pick whether they want a "grownup" bandaid or a Batman bandaid.

one thing that would help prevent them is to educate people that migraines are actually the blood vessels spasming.. If you can take actions to prevent THAT, then you wont have the neurological result from it. One can get ocular migraines as well ( I used to from a stressful job) that cause all sorts of weird visual effects (blood vessels in retina spasming)

You know what also works that is a pretty odd technique? Putting pressure on the skin between your thumb and pointer finger. As a lifetime sufferer of migraines, it never worked for me. BUT, it works a treat for my husband. Probably some decent medical reason as to why, but it always confused me. I take Neurontin 3 times a day and that has drastically reduced the number of migraines I get.

I like how the problem presented in the Swing hack one is that she's paying so much attention to the phone that she forgets to keep swinging the kid....and that the kid is close enough to get her attention. So the solution to the first part would be, put phone away keep being attentive and swinging the kid. But the actual problem is that your kid can physically alert you to their complaint because you're so close by, therefore, you need to get farther away from your child via the rope. The only part they chickened out on was having the mom back on her phone with the longer rope option.

@@LycanKai14 That's fair. I really don't think a parent is asking too much if they want to keep some semblance of private life after having children. Kids do take up a lot of time and parents should absolutely be willing to invest that, but it doesn't mean a mother shouldn't be allowed to split up her attention sometimes.

Hi Dr. Mike. I’m a teacher from Toronto, Canada. Would you ever consider doing a series on the American Sex Education curriculum across states? It seems like it varies so much and could be a great commentary coming from a doctor or multiple doctors and teachers who work in different states. Great video!

Dr. Mike, the passion about the potential choking hazard of the watermelon thing is warranted but can we acknowledge that milk and watermelon taste nothing alike? 😂

And that's such a ridiculous hack though, like why waste that entire watermelon just to get your kids to drink milk?

And do we really need to force kids to drink milk if they don't like it? Wasn't it questionable how beneficial it is? What if the kid is lactose intolerant and they don't wanna drink it because it makes them feel unwell?
@downhomesunset
@downhomesunset Жыл бұрын
@@kaymarrand9970 I’m sure that the fact their kid gets sick every time they have milk products would clue them in to a milk allergy. Also most kids who have problems with milk allergies grow out of them by the time s/he turns five.
@tinntinnamp
@tinntinnamp Жыл бұрын
@@downhomesunset Uh that's not true, most kids are fine with milk and get lactose intolerant as they are older. Three kids and husband who are now lactose intolerant but drank plenty of milk and had plenty of dairy would beg to differ, among others. Milk is not a thing humans need to drink except other human milk. It's literally a fact. nutrients are purposely added to milk to help the dairy industry make more money. Just like the food pyramid originally said to eat mostly bread for good health. If nutrients are added to milk, you can skip the sugar and hormones and give your kid a reliable chewable calcium supplement
@tinntinnamp
@tinntinnamp Жыл бұрын
@@kaymarrand9970 exactly, it's not even healthy. calcium is added- a chewable calcium supplement would suffice. I still don't understand how doctors are still saying milk is good for you. Yep, tons of sugar is great because of the calcium that was added? No, that's ridiculous. You can have the calcium without the unhealthy sugars. Greens have calcium in them, but doctors and parents will of course tell you to give your kids milk because it's easier. I've even see commercials where the dairy industry promotes chocolate milk as a healthy drink option! It was sports related which makes it even worse. Even doctor's will tell you chocolate milk is not good.

The first one actually works (kind of), but I prefer "massaging scalp", and it works only for a certain type of headaches. "Activating nerves" is just nonsense, but it puts blood to run in your veins which can help with muscle tensions etc... I don't know - I'm an anthropologist, not a doctor. 4:50 Not necessarily coping system (yet again, what I know) though that advice probably easily leads to that. If petting a dog or hugging family members or close friends releases dopamine and serotonin and thus helps handle stressful situations, brushing your hairs can have very similar effects...
