I don't know if it's just because I've heard his voice as Javert in the original Broadway recording all these years, but I truly think he is the most natural singing voice for the character there has ever been. I love the performances of some of the others, but when I hear Javert sing in my mind it is always Terrence Mann.

Saw him live at the Wang in Boston in 1989 and I was blown away by his performance of Javert, the villain, played as a 3 dimentional character. He got a standing ovation at curtain call, including from me. Thank you for this rare video of his performance.

Ahhhhh... the man just gets better with age. I remember when there used to be throw down flames wars between Mann and Quast fans, but I've always loved them both.

I was extremely lucky to be able to see Terrence Mann sing this (and all of Javert) TWICE when Les Miz ran on Broadway. I loved it then; I still love his version now. Thank you Terrence. Thank you for posting this.

Nice! I wish I could say the same, but I've only seen him sing as Javert myself at this concert. His voice is the Inspector's for me, and no one else's.

I've listened to this at least a hundred times in a row...and I'm just more blown away each and every time I hear it. My mom, who is *not* a fan of tenors, *loves* the sound of his voice!! He's incredibly gifted and talented and I want to thank him for sharing his talent with the world!! Love you, Terrence Mann, and keep on singing!! :)

It a tad longer of a commute, but he and his wife Charlotte d'Amboise are cast in that revival of 'Pippin' starting up on Broadway in March.

I don't know who you are, but I LOVE YOU for posting this! I come back to watch this frequently and am never disappointed. Terrence Mann is, to me, pure genius. Brilliance & talent & beauty all rolled into one. The Actor's actor. Thank you so much for sharing! Peace~

Every time that man opens his mouth to sing, I squee. Saw him in Dallas during the Do You Hear the People Sing concert and nearly had a heart attack (to be fair I didn't know he was going to be there.). At the end of the concert the gentleman sitting next to me politely shook my hand and said I was probably more entertaining than the concert itself. *blushes*.

Go, Terrence! I was so disappointed that he did not perform this in Dallas (due to his vocal injury). I had really wanted to see him sing it live. But, hey! I got to see him perform some other songs, and, first and foremost, I was in the same room as him!

Thank you for posting this. He is THE best! I am so sad that I did not know about this. I would have jumped in the car and driven over from Cincy!

Javert is traditionally done as a baritone. Terrence Mann is a baritone. However, he was a tenor when he made his broadway debut in "Barnum".

Argh! When Terrence is in the house, no one else should be touching 'Stars'! Ah, well. Yes, his Thenardier and the Engineer would still have been well worth it.

Well he didn't actually do "Stars" (Brian Stokes Mitchel sang it that night) However, he sang Master of the House and American Dream from Miss Saigon. It was fantastic.

People commonly refer to that as 'The Mann Effect'. It happens. No reason to feel ashamed. You were present for 'Stars', so you didn't stand a chance, really. ; )

Actually, after I finished typing I realized that I forgot to clarify. It's not that my mom doesn't like tenors, it's that she's not a fan of men with higher ranges. I realize that Mann is a baritone, and a marvelous one at that, and what I meant to express is that he has such a good command of his voice in the higher range that my mom actually likes it!
