How easy and affordable is it to root grape cuttings and get a 100% result? You can get the answer to this question by watching the video.
A feature of this method is that grape cuttings are constantly in the water at the same level (about 2-3 cm).

Would love to see you talk us through it (or annotate with text, but speech is my preference). What seems self-explanatory to you is not so to all your viewers. For example, what was it you added to the water? What were the cuts you were making to the cuttings?, etc.

With those delicate water roots, I'd consider planting out by 'puddling' as used for leek seedlings. Use a dibber to press a hole a few inches deep. Drop the rooted stem in. Instead of firming in with soil, pour in water to fill up the hole. Fine silt will settle around the roots giving a gentle anchoring into which the roots can get established. The hole will eventually collapse in on itself. A tremendous method for leek seedlings, where you would make quite a deep hole into which the stem base can expand as they grow. It's also a fast planting method.
@sza2bom
@sza2bom Жыл бұрын
I think that is mostly what we have seen here. There was no firming just covering, and then water was added so the soil particles can settle around the roots.

An even easier and cheaper way to do it is to take a handful of prunings and stick them into a 2-3 gallon pot of potting soil, keep it cool and moist for a month and 95 percent will root. I have about 40 varieites of grapes I've started that way from prunings from other gardens.

Try incorporating soil health principles in your planting and you will see huge results. 1. Keep armour on the soil (mulch, leaf litter, green manure) it will improve water infiltration and retention, reduce erosion, protect the soil from too much heat or cold fluctuation, and feed the soil organisms. 2. Reduce disturbance including tillage (digging or turning over soil), chemicals, fertilizers, fungicides and herbicides. 3. Increase diversity in plants 4. Keep a living root in the soil year round for as long as possible. 5. Incorporate animals (earth worms are animals too) 6. Keep it in your context (don't plant bananas above the arctic circle and such). If you start with mulching at the base of those cuttings, you will reduce weed pressure and keep the moisture in the soil. The deeper the mulch/leaf litter, the larger your worm-worker colony will be.
