My marriage is strong! Also my wife lied to me to the tune of $100k in consumer debt causing us to mortgage a paid off home. She hasn't added me to the deed of the house even though we're married and live together in the marital home... this man is lost. he's so used to being a pushover that he thinks it's normal. the fact they had kids in their 40s, she didn't care to put his name on the deed, she spent $100k behind his back, and won't take accountability for her poor spending habits, shows the house is burning and he's just sitting there saying everything's okay. he's the type whose wife will divorce him outta nowhere, and he'll be there wondering why she left and took everything.

My wife and I were married for 16 years and I would have said our marriage was strong right up until the day that she told me she wanted a divorce. This came six months after we paid off the mortgage as well as her student loans and became debt free. Moral of the story: Don't get complacent, you never really know what's in someone else's heart.

@@katemiller7874 You're right, given unlimited time and perfect hindsight I, I realize now that there were signs of her unhappiness much earlier on. It might be helpful for you to understand that most people who are heavily invested in their relationship tend to have a very optimistic view about the cracks they see developing; that there'll always be time to address the small stuff. This is especially problematic if their partner is very good at maintaining a veneer of "everything's okay"; they may not have any idea how deep the damage goes behind the surface. My ex-spouse even admits that she constantly "wallpapered over" her problems with our relationship so I wouldn't know how she really felt.

And she goes to therapy a real therapist... and doest stop until she can demonstrate multiple years of control. Theres no way i would pt up with this. She can work nights and weekends and pay it off herself. Completely unacceptable. Dude. It is ultimatum time. Shes 55 years old. Shes an adult. Shes lived long enough to figure out handling her own problems. Your enabling her by believing these false statements of why she struggles. Ive been through my own stuff. Everything i did because of it... im responsible for. Its on me. Now sure my past may have set me up for some difficult times. But i made the decisions. It makes the behavior understandable. It NEVER excuses behavior. She needs to hear ine thing from you.. in a loving way. "I love you. But this stops today. If i need to be the money gatekeeper for awhile while you work on yourself.thats fine. But if you overspend and hide that from me again. I will immediately file for divorce. It will end our relationship and it will not be recoverable."

Agree. A lot of people’s problems in life could be solved if they were willing to put their foot down and say “No” and actually follow through if/when the line is crossed. “You stop spending money like this and fix what you’ve done or I leave”. Either she fixes the spending or not. Her choice if she wants the relationship to continue. Now, if you make that threat and don’t follow through… well you just hosed yourself bud, you’re getting walked over twice to three times as bad now.

Dave is 100% right about how ebablers may be the nicest and kindness people in the world BUT they do more harm than good!! I see it most with parents and their children. Also, many parents who enable their children also tend to be very hypocritical as they hold others to standards that they do not hold their children to. I personally know many of these people and I've observed many more. Shame, shame, shame!

I inherited a 1979 El Camino and a mobile home from my dad. I decided to sell the mobile home because it was in Arizona and I live and work in Las Vegas. Plus the mobile home needed a lot of repairs and my dad still had a mortgage on it. I used the money from the sell of the mobile home to put a good chunk down to buy a townhome and I kept the El Camino because I didn't have a car prior to that.

The fact that he won't ask his wife to add his name to the deed when he's financially on the hook and married to her indictates some really deep problems. Unfortunately nice people are often easy for takers to take advantage of 😢

This is a heartbreaking call. I'm wondering when this family will loose their housing and become homeless. Are costs being put on credit cards because money is flowing to other things??? I wish this family and all of us the best.

Money aside, if the wife's name is the only name on the title to the house and something should happen to her, there could be probate issues in his future? His name should be on the house for that reason alone.
