The largest chainring on my 3x is my bash guard, since I never use it.

Never had a need a bashguard in the terrain I ride, yes sometimes I can bunnyhop the log, if not then I just lift the bike over. However once my chain dropped so I installed AB Bashguard/Chainguide combo for the extra security. Another fact is that is really light compared to other brands ~72g.

5:14 you can still mount one if tit's thread fit BB, just remove the spacer and install an adapter, MRP & E-Thirteen has adapters, and there are some even for pressfit that clamp on the BB shell, but not possible to use those on current Scott frames like Spark.

good informative video Gene.I guess on my Raleigh Redux 1 I have a bash ring. Its classified as an "urban shredder" so kind of strange it has that.BUT maybe some people really shred on them? lol..

Funny I have the Salsa bash ring on my 26” old bike. Today I was riding my Fatty and hit 2-3 rocks and logs with the front sprocket and got me thinking. And exactly like you said. I scratched my head where would you mount it on a 1x.

Like them. Not too heavy and easy to install but ridiculously expensive for what it really is (materials/technology wise)...

Seriously. Just bought a one up one for 90 bucks. I really needed it though since I was averaging 2 chainring hits a ride. The bike industry is fool of snake oil.

Cool video. Thank you for the info. I'm looking for a solution for my GT Zaskar LT Expert 2021. I would like a guard tensioner combo. Do you have any suggestions?

Hell I have a bashring currently since my Cannondale Cujo doesn't have ISCG tabs so I got 2x cranks for cheap(previous gen Deore) and run 1x with the bashring on the outside. works perfectly without the need for an adapter on the BB shell.

That's exactly what I did on that bike I pictured in the video when I showed the bash ring. It's a smart option and works excellent!

My 2022 stumpjumper evo has iscog 05 but with only 2 bolt mount......do you know if the absolute black would work for me? Or can you recommend a good bash guard/chain ring?

I 3d print mine out of petg. Looking at all the filament behind you, I'm surprised you don't.

I'm guessing 100% infill? What stl did you use? I'd give this a try but my gut feeling is it would break after getting hit on the first rock. Maybe try ninjaflex armadillo? I have some and it's pretty tough. Tell me what you think on this 👍
@doxielain2231
@doxielain2231 2 жыл бұрын
@@rgmtb I do 99% infill (less slicing time) and 7 lines for the walls. It really is one solid mass. The PETG I use is pretty tough, and I haven't bashed it apart yet. Bonus is that they're replaceable in like 4 hours of print time. I'll hunt up the stl when I get a chance.

Never had one. The largest ring I run is 30 tooth, maybe that makes a difference?
@rgmtb
@rgmtb 3 жыл бұрын
So that's the thing about 1x drive trains. With the smaller rings we're gaining more clearance so I can see why you might not need to run one. But even with a 30 tooth ring, I'm still nailing it when I try to get over a log and screw up :-(

Any suggestion for a Polygon Suskui T7? 32T chain ring 12 speed
@rgmtb
@rgmtb 2 жыл бұрын
The T7 frame offers ISCG mounts which is nice. My D6 does not have that option. With those tabs your open to many options. All I can say is that it's worth getting one. Specially on a T7 since that bike is made to do some crazy stuff ;-)

I can't tell if that frame offers ISCG tabs. These tabs help attach the bash guard I showed in the video. So all I can say is, maybe? I'm sorry about that.

If bash guards cost more than the chain or chain ring then why have one?
@rgmtb
@rgmtb 2 жыл бұрын
Couple reasons. - Normally they don't cost more so you might be looking at a pretty high end bash guard. To be honest, my oval chain ring is more expensive then the guard. - If you bash up and bend your ring it could be end your ride which sucks - It's not uncommon to use the a bash guard that comes with a chain guide to help keep your chain line. 1x setups are getting much better and dropping a chain is not happening much, but it is something to think about. I don't run guards on all my bikes. In fact, I only run one on my Nomad because it use it for more DH and Enduro types of riding.
