As someone who owns a shure sm7b, I’d highly recommend spending the additional 499 dollars on a RØDE Caster Duo to pair it to. By far the best 1,003 dollars total I spent on my setup. (Be sure to buy an xlr cable while you’re checking out online, neither come with a xlr cable - for those who don’t already own a xlr cable)

A cloudlifter is amazing! But I would choose a fethead over the cloudlifter, the price is more justified and requires less space! :)

It's honestly hard to recommend without hearing what it sounds like. Everything you listed should sound good as-is. What's not sounding 'right' to you?

You likely need to normalize the audio after you record it. Trying looking up 'Normalize Audio in Logic Pro', it's common for all mics (including phone mics) @@mr_red13

I don't believe you'd need one for those. But some people prefer to still use it. I think it'll just come down to personal preference.

No, not without any special adapter. The Shure SM7B doesn't have any usb ports

You can't go wrong with one...but you don't need one if it has enough gain

Yes. You only need to get it to -18DB to be usable. But go ahead and crank the gain to max on your interface because the signal to noise ratio is actually optimal at maximum. The signal will be louder in comparison to the white noise of the preamp when at maximum. When you record at a lower gain level and amplify it through other means, you just decrease the signal to noise ratio, so crank it up!

@@ilykeej lmao a gain knob means nothing. Your preamp still has to be powerful enough for the sm7b, which requires at least 60db of amplification.

Have the 6i6 and tried to get away with not using the cloud lifter for 3 weeks then got the cloud lifter because I was pretty unhappy with how it sounded compared to my previous cheapo condenser mic. Once getting the cloud lifter it was night and day, didn't have to crank the gain or boost the shit out of it anymore and the sound quality was vastly improved as a result.

@@ThotsAndPrayersAbout 60dB to amplify to a professional audio reference level of +4dBu. But most USB interfaces do not provide enough headroom to comfortably accommodate that sort of level the way external preamps do. Clipping point on the 3rd gen 2i2 is at +11dBu while only +6dBu on the 2nd gen. The digital equivalent to +4dBU is between -14 and -18dBfs, which is what one should be aiming for instead.

No because the sm7b is a xlr mic you will need a usb mic for consoles

@@theoutsiderjess4869Lol @ the thought of using those glorified MIDI cables in the studio...or the stage. Roger Daltrey has been swinging his mic around with a USB-C cable since the 60s. EDIT: oh sorry, I just realised you meant a gaming console and not a recording console.
