Streaky, what are your thoughts on the Focal Trio 6 or Trio 11 monitors for mastering purposes? I'm looking to get speakers primarily for mastering but also some mixing. My room is a little smaller than yours at 10ft. wide by 20ft long. Thanks!

I think you meant that Hi-Fi speakers are smoother, not flatter. Studio monitors are as flat as speakers can get, the reason that they are sharper where hi-fi speakers smooth out all the little things that may be irritating so some where as I prefer studio monitors for home listinging as well to hear what they heard in the studio. A personal preference I know, and if I had the cash I would be using Barefoot's MM27's for home and studio although the dsp x-over does have a "stereo" mode for just that purpose. You may find them perfect for your work! IF after 25 years you can't afford them, then we must have a lot in common.

I want a pair of monitors for producing, mixing and mastering. I'm trying to decide between Focal Trio and Neumman KH 310. How do you compare them?

Use your ears, specs can be misleading. Play something you know well on them, and listen hard, good monitors will keep your sense of objectivity longer. Studio tan can ruin your week.

For people that... Listen on big speakers. Yes there are still 'audiophiles' in the world that listen to speakers which cost as must as a new car or house.

why do you master on Focals? Why do you dont buy Magico A7 or M6, they are high revealing, high resolution speakers. And you should buy proper amplificationfor these focals. Monoblocks like Boulder, Lamm, Gryphon…. etc. I hope you understand that high end hi fi speakers and amplification works better than these in studios…..
