Last year I broke my arm. Needless to say my skin care routine became very minimal. Gentle cleansing Cerave hydrating cleanser then Cerave moisturizer. That's it. Lo and behold my skin never looked better in years. So now that's all I do. I'm not fixing what's not broken... no pun intended lol.

People experience the same when they are on anti inflammatories or IV fluids. When you stop taking these there's a chance your skin will go back to the state it was before,so you might end up having to go back to your old routine.

Thank you for addressing this! I don't think many people know why they use toner or why it was originally used in skincare. It's just something we've always been told we should use. There are so many products out now with various ingredients that do very different things, but they're all called "toners", which certainly adds to the confusion regarding what they're for and if using one is necessary. Toners are no longer one type of product (the pH balancing, astringent kind), and more a type of delivery system for various ingredients like acids, bontanical extracts, humectants, etc. I do enjoy the newer iteration of toners that are meant for hydration. My skin gets dehydrated pretty easily and I noticed that I could apply all the heavy moisturizer in the world and it wasn't making my skin feel much better. Once I started adding a few layers of a hydrating toner (alcohol and fragrance free), I noticed a significant difference in the plumpness and hydration of my skin. It no longer feels tight and I'm able to use less moisturizer. I prefer these kinds of toners over hydrating serums because they feel less sticky and I'd rather not "waste" my serum step on humectants.

all lovely facts I’ve tried both and I love them both. For body I like SPF 30 more as the 200 ml bottled will last longer. It’s also lighter in consistensy, which makes it easier to apply to the body, even if you have alot of body hair. I like the SPF 50 more for the face, neck, ears, head. It’s a bit shinier on the face than the SPF 30, but I feel the SPF 30 is a bit too «watery» for the face. Just my preferance. That is not a negative thing, I just prefer the SPF 50 as it’s easier for me to apply. Both SPF 30 and 50 are extremely cheap, so you can might aswell buy both and try then out. SPF 30 also comes in a 1L bottle which is really nice too

I use Japanese "lotions" (usually containing Urea) as toners bc they are the same texture and so hydrating. I use the Cosrx snail essence as a humectant. I follow up with Cereve Moisturizer Cream. I have extremely dry skin without those things. I personally feel toners in the United States and Asia are two completely different products. In the west they seem so drying and the east it's all about hydrating. Thank you so much for another informative video. 👍

K M if you’re from Europe try the brand Declarè Switzerland!! I’ve recently stumbled upon it and I tried their tonifying lotion and loved it! I’ve search for ingredients in other products and as an esthetician I think this brand is awesome! Perfect - no, but not even one brand is perfect or suitable for all people. Just keep that in mind when buying products. Declarè is a great brand and you should try their toner :) another great brand is Sans Soucis, not a lot of people talk about it though it’s too underrated 😕

I'm in my 40s. Have used toner since high school. I have always had extremely oily skin, breakouts, large pores. (the worst skin) Still do. Toner is a must for me. Usually use one with salicylic acid in it. Never dries me out. It helps remove last traces of dirt/oil/make up after cleansing. Yes I clean my skin very well. Usually twice. Once with a mild cleanser and once with one with a gentle scrub. Then the toner. Thanks for the info.

Another KZfaq blogger highly recommend Klairs Essence toner due to hydrating and calming qualities. I’m glad that I decided to give it a try as it adds a little soothing moisture. My skin usually get irritated if products have fragrance or are too scented and this doesn’t irritate my skin at all. Based on your suggestions, I also bought Klairs calming cream ( it’s very soothing and great for Irritated skin) and the Pyunkang Yul essence, for brightening purposes and I also like it. I always use an essence and moisturizer before I reapply sunscreen as I have very dry skin.

Toner I always think of in different categories: an astringent one like witch hazel, an exfoliating one like an aha or bha and a hydrating one that, for me, does not contain drying alcohols, fragrance or essentials oils and is typically Korean/Japanese and hyaluronic acid-based. I'm personally a fan of the Isntree Hyaluronic Acid toner (I apply one or two layers directly after cleansing), the Pyungkang Yul one, the Missha Time Revolution Essence and looking forward to trying out the Hado Labo "Premium" Hyaluronic acid lotion for the harsh winter months. I find it makes a huge difference in the plumpness and glow factor of my skin. Definitely into the Asian formulas and personally avoid the Western ones. :)

@wendigo1919
@wendigo1919 2 жыл бұрын
@@lonevoyager6026 it depends if you wear makeup and/or a water-resistant sunscreen or not. If you wear those, you might want to use a balm cleanser first on your face to remove those, such as Elf Cosmetics Holy Hydration Melting Cleansing Balm, Clean It Zero Cleansing Balm Original or Physician's Formula The Perfect Match Melting Cleansing Balm- following instructions. The follow with something like Aveeno Calm + Restore Nourishing Oat Cleanser Fragrance-Free (it's non-foaming and super gentle). I would apply this to a dry face and gently massage in for several seconds, then rinse well. I'm a huge believer of non-foaming cleansers for all skin types, personally- they don't strip the skin barrier of moisture. Follow immediately with the rest of your skincare.

Happy Tuesday! It's not essential so I've never tried toner and essence. Very good tutorial! I don't ask too many questions about it because I have sensitive skin. But I see youtubers who have rosacea and use toner every day. I watch beauty youtubers for makeup! But when it comes to skin products, I prefer to trust a dermatologist. We have to be very careful, youtubers often talk to us about their routine and it's not good for our skin type. There are a few exceptions but in general the recommended products are not very safe!

I was hoping you would do a video on toners and essences! 👍🎈🎊🎉 I'm so RELIEVED you didn't poo poo them, because my older, dehydrated, eczema and dermatitis prone skin ❤❤❤ LOVES them! 😁 I live in a rural area, and our well water is very hard, despite using a water softening system. A guy with a hairy chest once showered here and it looked like someone sprayed his chest white! 🤣 We heat with wood, so it can get really dry, in spite of having humidifiers. Since I started using these 2 extra steps, the number of eczema flare ups I've had have dramatically decreased and I just love how they make my skin feel. I go for products that are hydrating and help strengthen my skin barrier. These are the products I have and repurchased. I don't use them all at the same time, though 😁: TONERS: FIRST AID BEAUTY Ultra Repair Wild Oat Hydrating Toner YOUVA Balance Canadian Glacial Water Toner Mad Hippie Hydrating Nutrient Mist *IT COSMETICS Miracle Water ESSENCES: ROVECTIN Skin Essentials Activating Treatment Lotion *COSRX Galactomyces 95 Tone Balancing Essence *COSRX Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence * I mix these together and add the IT Cosmetics Miracle Water to thin it out.

I was using the Missha Time Revolution essence, but I noticed that the active ingredients in it prevented me from using it with my Retin-A Micro. I live in Colorado, so I wanted a light moisturizer to layer under my Retin-A to reduce irritation. I've switched to the Neogen Real Ferment Micro Essence, and so far it has been working well. I also use the CORSRX Two in One Poreless Power Liquid as an AM toner about three times a week. I apply 3-4 pumps on a cotton pad and gently sweep it over my face. I find it to be less drying than most toners, and it helps to sweep away the flaky skin left behind by the Retin-A.

"Botanic extracts are poorly studied" and jumping to conclusion that 'it's never better' is just as dumb as concluding 'it's not necessarily better', so vice versa. That's the loophole most of these dermatologists or those who blindly follow them are missing out. In western side, sure it seems to be poorly studied but not in eastern. Both 'more derivative/science' base skincare and 'more natural/raw ingredients' base skincare have pros & cons, period.

I love the Klairs unscented. Didn’t realize the couple problem ingredients but I love that it’s hydrating AND has all those other helpful brightening and calming ingredients. Seems like the pyunkang yul and soon jung 5.5 have minimal ingredients and are just there for hydration. Klairs almost seems like a 2-fer. I used a bottle and then didn’t re-purchase. Then I recently re-incorporated it into my routine and realized what I was missing!

I have used so many toners and essences ever since I got on the Korean skin care bandwagon... 😄 For toners, currently I'm using the Son & Park Beauty Water in the AM and the Acwell Licorice pH Balancing Cleaning Toner in the PM. I know it's so "extra" to have different toners but I just want to get through all my non-cruelty free products as soon as possible... As for the essence, I'm currently using the COSRX Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence. I did go through two bottles of the Missha Time Revolution Essence... Korean skin care products are really good... 👍🏼

I have quite sensitive skin and creams and thicker serums really don't get absorbed by my skin that much and so hydrating toners with lower concentration of actives and other good ingredients works really well for my skin. Plus because of its watery consistency, my skin absorbs toners pretty quickly :)

The Pyunkang Yul is a staple for me, but I also like the Hado Labo and Missha TR mentioned. Others I really like are the Neogen dermatology treatment first essence, Ti'am panthenol toner and Sukoyaka Suhada Urea lotion. The laneige cream skin refiner is very moisturisng/hydrating for my dry skin (fragrance free as are all the ones mentioned). I have super dry/eczema prone/menopausal skin and use tretinoin so I need a lot of hydration/moisture in my skin routine. layering onto wet skin really works for me. Best wishes.

Not long ago I tried Pixi Glow Tonic which has glyconic acid, etc., but also a lot of fragrance. It doesn't bother me and I like the effect on my skin. However, after listening to your advice against fragrance in skin care products, I'm going to limit it to when the weather gets warmer and when I feel I might need an extra "freshening." I have mature, somewhat sensitive skin, so definitely not necessary.

I used to use a hyaluronic acid toner but recently I bought a new one from Declarè Switzerland which is a more expensive one but I think it does a great job at removing the access sebum and calms my skin, makes my pores less visible and gives my skin some hydration. I use it twice a day, in the morning and before bed. As an esthetician I think toners can be extremely important part of your skincare if you use one that’s done correctly without useless ingredients and often ingredients that actually harm the skin! Per caution is in order. I mean if you happen to use a perfect kind of toner for your skin your skin will look great and will be thankful you pick the best and safest option out there! Simplicity is key. Korean skin care is amazing and I often steal a trick or tip from them 😊

Personally I find the use of a toner very beneficial, it brings hydration and smooths my skin. Ofc you need to choose your toner (soothing, no fragrance and no essential oils) like Dr. Dray recommended. In my case with hormonal acne I find that it soothes my acne.

I use toner for a couple of reasons and that is - If I'm looking for a spesific ingredient, green tea etc - I find that the toner stays on my skin longer than water. I don't always get to the moisturizer right out of the shower, so I put on some thicker water/toner before moisturizer - I don't put AHA/BHA on wet skin, so after cleansing a use a hydrating toner, let it dry and then chemical exfoliation - When my cream isn't thick enought and I need something extra, I'm from rice toner is AMAZING I don't use it everyday though :)

I'm open to any suggestions: I've been using Lotion Yon-ka skin toner for years, never had an issue but I'm starting to understand ingredients better and it has a ton of different perfuming. I have sensitive, mild rosacea with normal to dry skin. Everytime i stop using it my skin gets drier, guessing I'll up the moisturizer and pray it gets better over time. Started using Cerave and cetaphil cleansers and using the ordinary products and all good 👍 there, it's been about 2-3 months.

I lean towards simple formulations (no fragrance/essential oils/alcohol/actives) hydrating or soothing toners and essences to layer of hydration instead of serums or ampules. I find them just as hydrating but lighter. I dont like to feel my skincare but need it bec of my dry skin. I tend to stay away from exfoliating and clarifying toners.

My skin loves toners because my skin is sensitive and combo acne prone so it not only regulates the ph and residue but not as much without a daily exfoliant tool for my skin type. I switched to chemical due to those wearing down throughout having different products on the face not just gel cleanser but probably switching to emulsive like gel cleanser that serves as a balm that's customary especially if I can't exfoliate chemically everyday like the feore Luna 2(too,expensive ATM) haven't tried a moisturizer but will probably switch to a serum for that as they have always been light on and n my skin. The essence I have recently found after dehydration recovers everything but the horrible one I bought along time ago that I had broke me out so looking possibly having one to not irritate or clog pores as being very lightweight

I sometimes use the Clinique 3 toner for oily skin, but only if my skin is feeling robust and like it won't be reactive. It has alcohol and witch hazel, but also soothing ingredients and humectants. I won't say it's gentle, but it is effective. The other toner numbers have different formulations. Other times I use straight witch hazel with no alcohol, when I want the spa experience of smelling like an Alpine weed. LOL I heard the Missha Time Revolution is a dupe for Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair, which is nice but expensive. Was wondering if any Drayheads have tried and and how it compares to ANR. The Estee Lauder sauces leave my skin feeling like velvet right away and even the next morning. Some folks use it day and night.

I got so excited about The Ordinary and then K beauty and then mashed up both and now every time I pull out my tote of skin care I think ‘really’? I am now wanting a more simplified routine (and I think my rosacea sometimes appreciates that, too). I might have to pay more for a serum that targets more things than my multiple bottles from TO, but I’m okay with that at this point.
