Those coloured sun sticks are such a good idea, I’d be much more likely to reapply if it felt like a makeup touch up. I don’t actually know how you’re supposed to reapply spf if you’re wearing makeup? I’ve heard the spf powder brushes are ineffective?! Also imagine the coloured ones as sun protection body art at festivals!

Aussie here, hearing you talk about zinc sticks was a surprise! Yeah, they’re really thick and not meant to be rubbed in or used all over-but they stay on for hours even with water/sweat. They’re usually put on where burn risk is highest, mainly along bridge of nose/cheekbones and lips. The colours are fun and popular for sports (since you can match the team) but you can’t use them at pools because the dye messes with the water. You’ll see them at every school sports day except for swimming since they’re banned, lol. They can also stain, especially the neon ones (I’ve been pink and it wasn’t the sun).

When I think of zinc, I think of the sticks that were black and about the size of a lip balm. Can't remember if it is the same brand or not. I also remember the late, great Andrew Symonds, who played cricket for Australia. Always had zinc on his lips.

@@Chilakkuma I am sure it was Sun Zapper. The packaging has changed since I was a kid (late 80s early 90s), but they did green, yellow and pink, or the good old white. They were pretty cheap and the bright colours stained so bad haha. My towels were always covered in the stuff!

Australian here: yes, those sticks are a thing (or at least were when I was younger). I personally never used them outside of school. But in primary school and high school a lot of people would wear different coloured zinc sticks during swimming (and sometimes sports) carnivals. People would rep their house colour, use it as part of their costume, or wear it for fun. Straight up, I thought it was face paint for the longest time. When Michelle mentioned it as a way to get kids to wear sunscreen, it suddenly clicked. I'm not sure if random stripes or hearts would actually protect us from the sun. Re: Michelle's post-the hardcore sunscreen advocacy for millrnials and older gen Z was very real. No hat no play was brutal for some. In holiday care and after school care, we weren't allowed to play outside during summer/late spring without wearing sunscreen. This also happened at some swimming carnivals and whenever we would have swimming lessons. I vaguely recall a carnival where a teacher was walking around with a sunscreen bottle, asking people to reapply. It never occurred to me that this wasn't a universal experience for children. Until i saw Michelle's video.

the zinc sticks are definitely a thing here in Australia. they’re supposed to be thick and not rub in so you get maximum protection. that’s why the bright colours became popular, especially in areas like the nose and cheeks that burn easy. if you’re looking for sunscreens with the best protection, Australian sunscreens are the most reliable!

I’ve just started using a Glow Hub toner essence, the calm and soothe one. I just got the travel size to try it out, but will buy the full size as it has helped my skin redness. I also love that even in the mini size it comes with one of those press down tops to get the toner on to the cotton wool pad 🙂

Australian here 👋🏻 the zinc sticks are absolutely a thing they’ve been around for ages and were staples at your highschool swimming carnival 😂 that being said most Aussie sunscreens are really good quality because we have the strictest sunscreen laws in the world (or one of the strictest) so if it’s being made and sold here it has to pass extremely strict laws to be sold and labelled as an SPF or sunscreen!

Same on the Jet Lag Eye Mask. I'd gone full circle on night eye creams from not using them to being obsessed to just using my normal moisturisers again after not noticing enough results and having a few sensitising reactions+milia. But I gave this one a go, and 100% converted use it religiously. I'm 30 w/ 3yo twins+a 6yo, so anything that helps me look more awake and less puffy is a win. And this definitely does the job. After a month of using it, I do think I've noticed slight fine lines are a bit better. I layer it over my Sunday Riley Luna Oil as my retinol, which I do bring underye, and it hasn't caused any issues doubling up. I only use it at night, and pair it with the REM Beauty eye cream, which I recommend if you do well with silicones as it really does blur+cool the undereye.

Hey James, loved your chats. The Australia stick sunscreen are actually a thing in Australia. Because the sun here really burns, in the middle of summer I go for a walk around 5:00pm and that sun is still going to burn you if you don’t have extra protection it’s brutal. I haven’t tried that brand because here we do have a few different brands though I haven’t seen one that is skin colour match, they look great. My husband who is very fair and uses something called invisible zinc stick, which is basically a zinc based product that goes on clear. I think most families would have some zinc stick based product in their bathroom cabinet because the sun in Australia is brutal. I will check your recommendation thanks 🙏

13:11 yes, zinc is an astringent so it makes sense that zinc spf’s can be relatively drying. The R&R product isn’t drying because it has so much bisabolol and alantoin. The rest of the base and the film formers are also relatively emollient for a sun serum and they’re very good at preventing TEWL. I haven’t looked at the full formula of the tatcha though so idk what in that formula is keeping the astringency at bay.

Tbh that's kinda sad that you thought about the products, selected each one and added them to your cart all to let 1 person oddly influence you not to go through with it. These companies are just trying to survive and thrive by paying influencers to advertise. Guess you thought this was a flex but it's really not - you still let someone (in this case Mikayla Nogueira) influence you, just in the opposite way. Hope you find products you love ❤ have a good day

@-xxMelissaxx- so following your logic no matter what terrible stuff the company will do, it's justified because they are just trying to survive? I don't think so, company made their choice, I made mine, it's called the consequences of the actions.

OMG- I remember the zinc oxide in various colors here in the US back in the 80s/early 90s. We all wanted to wear it and make designs on our skin to run around the swim club 😂

I have become obsessed with the inn beauty project sunscreen. It’s a mineral but it doesn’t feel like sunscreen at all. I can put the proper amount and it just feels like a lightweight gel cream. I struggle with sunscreen due to textures and this has become my holy grail. I’m obsessed!!! I have dry skin and it doesn’t feel dry or cakey like some mineral creams

I have ‘glass skin’ … ‘stain glass.’ I use gentle AHA for discoloration, but don’t get hung up on being ‘perfect.’ Some of my spots are cute, and I use SPF to keep them at bay.

The fluro zinc sticks were massive in the 80s and 90s! Us horse kids would draw on the horses with them too 😅

The inkey list face wash is the ONLY face wash I’ve found that doesn’t burn my facial skin. I love them so much even if this is the only product I use. It took years for my face not to burn and it’s thanks to them

I have r+r but my favorite is coppertone baby. It has zero chalk, just like r+r. I let it dry down then go over with either foundation or cerave tinted.

I wonder if the “ceramic” glass skin isn’t related to that Madison Margiela makeup

I would like to find a really good Vitamin C + E serum to use on my age spots on my cheeks, nose & a little on my upper lip. I’d like to find one the plays well with the Lawless Forget the Filler moisturizer I like so much.

I think the "ceramic skin" is supposed to make you think of ceramic doll faces, which usually have a satin finish to them. So, instead of shiny, glass skin, you're supposed to think of a subtle glow, satin finish instead.

been using the same products for years (mostly Paula's choice) and so far I didn't feel the need to change it! Every time I'm in Korea, I get some nice skin care or my MIL sends me some stuff. But I do enjoy watching your reviews! I dont think anything could convince me changing my routine though😉

I love the skin coloured zinc sticks. I get the worst melasma that makes me terrified of the sun. I found these and had a beach vacation to Seychelles recently and I was able to enjoy the full day in a bikini using these!
