When you buy components for either your home audio system, or home theater, do you have a tendency to prefer one or two countries over others? Chief Product Officer Andrew Welker shares how his system skews to certain countries, and the reasons why.

I have components from the US, Canada, Germany and Japan. The components are spread over about three different systems in my home (although they aren't all the same brands, several brands share the same country of origin). I certainly don't look at where the components are made until after I see what they offer and what they can do. If I like a component, I'll look up where they're from just out of curiosity. The country origin of my components doesn't factor in to my choice at all.

My main system has components from Germany, Britain, US, Japan and Canada. I've only ever met one audiophile whose entire system was British. I've never discriminated, lol! My ears are the final arbiter of what stays and what goes regardless of what flag it flies.

Hi! Have you ever made a video about the coupling/ decoupling of the speakers? There is tons of opinions and solutions like Isoacoustics puck or spike or gel or heavy plank of wood or even concrete. What is your thoughts? Thank you!

Quality come first. After that, I try to choose material designed and built in Quebec and Canada by people being paid a good living wage to build them. In the second place in my systems is England design and built and in third is occupied by material of England design and foreign built. If I add my phono cartridges, then come japanese / chinese source I'm not sure. So brands are: Bryston / Axiom / Rega / Moon / Cambridge Audio...

Great topic. I've ended up with mainly Canadian system Axiom speakers all around an ADA amp. powered by Anthem. Also a Fluance turntable. The only pieces in my system from elsewhere are Sony Blue ray and CD player.

I don't really care where a component comes from. I have always tried to get the absolute best bang for my dollar, but my ear is always the final judge. I have purchased gear in the past that was supposed to be "top of the line" that I just could not get to sound good. My old British made B&W Nautilus 802's had amazing build quality and good imaging, but I could not get them to sound good in my room. They always lacked bottom end bass. My current system sounds amazing and is an audio chain built of a mix of odd links that work really well together. The two star components in my stereo system are the Legacy Wavelet and the 4 ch Axiom ADA 1500 that I'm using in a tri-amp set up. The ADA-1500 is sonically amazing, besting my old Parasound HCA-2200II and my old Bryston 14B SST.

I grew up when British loudspeakers and electronics were the norm, their prices were within reason of affordability and if need be, servicing them could be done locally. Now one must consider where equipment is manufactured, where it can be serviced and will the manufacturer, distributor or retailer still be in business? If you have ever boxed up a 125 lb. audio amplifier and shipped it south-of-the-border for warranty service or owned a very expensive CD Player whose CD-Drive/Laser mechanism died and it is no longer commercially available, you will get the picture.

Hi, Can I ask you something? Can I use dac amp on desktop speaker like creative t60 or other like 2.1 home theater n powered bookshelf without bass & treble knob to adjust volume,bass n treble on dac amp to connect to PC in order to get a balanced sound for movies and music. And what's different dac amp and tube preamp ? Please let me know. Thanks!

Axiom M5HP speakers, Bryston 3B amp, Angela-Gilbert Yeung D520 DAC, all Canadian. Preamp is Schiit Freya+; JL Audio Sub; USA. Plan on adding British second pair of speakers. Very happy to have so much Canadian gear.

It's the "northern acoustic" that works for me: the vastness and depth and diversity of the Cdn sound is tough to beat. Yeah, I know NAD isn't made here, but it still makes me feel good. Also nice that I am not funneling all my Cdn $ offshore. Adds up to a tangible enhancement to my listening experience.

Axiom M80’s, Run by Yamaha M80 poweramp & C80 preamp. Would love to find a second Yamaha M80 and bridge each and run them as mono blocks. (Compared to the likes of some of yous out there - I know this is just entry level / basic set up - but it sure does make me smile each and every time) 😃

For me, it's about the performance. If it's a tube amplifier, I buy American....if it's solid state, I buy Japanese. I like American Klipsch bookshelf speakers, but I also like Canadian Paradigm speakers too. For turntables, it's always Japanese, no exceptions. For cartridges, I like American-made Grado

I definitely skew Canadian with Axiom speakers, Anthem AVR and amps, and NAD cd player and turntable. Streaming sources and video tend to be Japanese/Korean/Chinese brands.

In California. I think I am more of a United Nations of equipment, but if I am looking at something, and it is made in CA, I get a bit of a good feeling about it (Dan Clark headphones, PassLabs amp, Apple phone/computer). Other countries represented are US (VPI, Woo, Soundsmith, Roon, Grado, BlueJean, Marantz?), China (Holoaudio, Primaluna), Belgium/UK (PearlAcoustics), Austria (EAT), Denmark (Ortofon), Japan (TEAC), France (Audirvana), UK (Tisbury), NZ (Beautiful Audio). Not sure about origin of some of the tubes (Western Electric, Brimar, Philips, Telefunken). I like interesting design ideas, such as pure class A amp, single driver speaker, moving iron phono cartridge, R2R DAC, VTA on the fly, dual mono pre-amp.

I'm rocking a pair of Bryston 3B NRB amps, Axiom M100 speakers, and Paradigm PW2500 subs... So maybe I am favoring Canuck engineering and manufacturing a little bit.

French preamp, British amps, British speakers which in a way brought me here. I've been using a pair of floor standing speakers with a pair of subs for 20 years. I've recently switched to a small bookshelf speaker pair in concert with my subs. There's no going back. Small speakers are just better at disappearing. My British speakers are all about modern materials and technology and I love them but it has got me thinking what a small more conventional bookshelf would sound like in my room. A modern Canadian LS3/5A type of speaker. A pair of Axiom M2 in the cheery finish is a really affordable way to scratch the itch.

Nice interesting video. I have a Klipsch Synergy 7.1 Surround Sound speaker system and a Yamaha 7.2 A/V receiver. I purchased the system together around 2013. I'm not really sure if my Klipsch are made in the United States or China. And the same with my Yamaha A/V receiver. Not sure if it was made in Japan or in Malaysia . But my system still sounds as good as the day of purchase.

I try to go all the way Canadian, Nad m-17 v2i processor, Bryston 4Bsst2 , 9Bsst2 and 9bsst. Bryston model T and TC-1 ( waiting for the Tiny T to come out) Some paradigm subwoofers and paradigm surround. The only thing that's not Canadian, is my Panasonic blue ray player and cables.

Ever since my government paid (Navy) cruises to Japan in the 70s, most of my audio equipment has been from Japan. I try to avoid gear from countries that tend to use cheaper components, one of the fields I retired from is electronics. I like some of the high end gear from the US and Europe, but I'd have to un-retire to be able to afford it. My current HT setup: Samsung QN800A 75" 8k TV, Panasonic 4k BR Player, Marantz SR7010 AVR, DIY HTPC w/RTX3090, Axiom M60 x2, Axiom QS10HP x2, Klipsch RP450C (fits console), SVS Prime Elevations x4, Axiom EP600 x1. I have a pair of Axiom M3s for my office PC powered by an old Yamaha RX-V2090. I gave a pair of Axiom QS8s to family to round out their system when I cut down my system from 7.1.4 to 5.1.4.

China and Canada due to my budget. But selling my Chinese gear and upgrading to Denmark (Lyngdorf). I don't have a problem buying gear from China. Chinese people need to eat too!

I have a good mix of countries in my setup! Anthem Poweramp,(Canada) Rega P5 vinyl player(England), Marantz processor and Oppo 95EU. Speakers are 4 swedish Respons Baby Grand speakers with italian Sonetto center speaker. Honestly, I think canadian products are underrated. As far as I remember Energy was made there too, and they had famous Veritas in their line. Wasn’t Mirage made there also?

By looking at my stereo system, I realized that I have a 56% preference for American components, followed by 33% Japanese and 11% UK. It was a choice of specs and component performance rather than mfg locations.

Apart from my Italian made Sonus Faber speakers the rest of my setup are designed and engineered in Britain! Coming from the quality sounding Arcam avr20 plus matching power amps to the Monitor Audio mini monitors speakers (effect channels) even my speaker cables/RCAs (Chord) + my power conditioning (Iso-Tek Sirius evo3) are British made. Hell even my other speakers Q acoustics / KEF ls50s are British , but I wouldn't say just because I'm British most of my setup is British! In my experience people seem to get better deals when buying from their own country!

You know what would be great? If Axiom answered their phones, returned voicemails, or returned emails. I have a broken amplifier that needs replacement parts, but even after multiple phone calls, voicemails, and emails, no one from axiom has replied. What’s going on over there?

My electronics tend to be Japanese. Not by choice necessarily, it just turns out there's generally more "bang for the buck" in equipment coming out of that region. I am, however, probably about to switch out my Marantz AV7702MKII with an Anthem AVM70 as I've heard nothing but good things about ARC Genesis and, of course, I have some Axiom speakers in the mix.

Canadian loudspeakers (Axiom, Angstrom, Kanto, Mirage), Japanese AVR (Onkyo), and American and Japanese playback devices that run apps (Chromecast + GT, iPhone, Switch, Wii U). With software apps, the country of origin is almost moot.

Designed, manufactured, or both? I avoid products manufactured in China but I'm open to products manufactured elsewhere around the globe. I have a Japanese made integrated amp, turntable, cartridge, and CD player. I am about to buy speakers made in Italy to replace speakers made in the USA. And I have an American made phono preamp along with American made speaker cables.

No i dont care. As long as it is reliable, has intuitive operation, matches my design tastes, and of course sounds good - it will be shortlisted. I dont give a damn about a company’s heritage or whoever is the designer marketing it. Being an enthusiast is educating ones self to being able to get over the hype and the marketing behind a product. Limiting your choices to country of origin for whatever reason is shallow and is anti-enthusiast behavior in my opinion. No offense to anybody please. Great question by the way. Made me think about my choices and how happy i am with the decisions i made.

Over the last few decades, through overly price-competitve capitalism, the quality of a lot of brands has been gradually eroded to the point of noticeably worse sound quality from newer components, compared to the quality that came out of the 80's, 90's, and 2000's. This aspect is rather disappointing.

My selection inadvertently seems American: Def Tech BP10s X4, BP8s X2, CLR2002, and SUPERCUBE II X1 ~ bed layer SVS Prime Elevations x4 ~ for height/ATMOS duty ** I favour WIDE soundstages, and these two companies compliment each other quite well. 😊🫨🔊🫡 Thanks for your video, I think my choices were coincidental but based on claimed home theatre performance.
