I ask me: can I use one speaker as a Top Surround aka voice of god in an AURO-3D-setup? I think, this woud much more better for the Dome-Effect than an normal speaker and the ceiling height would be also higher feeling? What do you think? Thanks a lot.

On the ELAC Debut 2.0 series. Their floor standing speaker is a 3 way. But the center channel for that series is a 2-way. I got the ELAC Debut2.0 F6.2 3 ways for my fronts. Their Uni-Fi2.0 UC52 center channel speaker is a way way but it’s a different product line. Which one do I get?

The frustration I have is the lack of any ability with most speakers to demo it before buying. I wanted to upgrade some small bookshelf speakers, watched several KZfaq reviewers, from the amateur (CAM), to the measurement nuts (Amir, Erin), and everyone seemed to agree that the Elac DBR62 would decent speakers. And then they went on sale. Long story short, for me and my environment, they were just “meh”. Back they went. Easy return, but still waiting for my credit. So I have seen mixed reviews of the M5HP’s, ranging from neutral and great to neutral, but veiled and boring. Similar review variances on most other direct to consumer speakers, assuming you can even find a review. Also many make you pay return shipping, and may have a restocking fee. How do you “pick” a speaker if you cannot really rely on reviewers (and some are or devolve into shills), and it essentially will cost $’s to demo them.

I was about to say that I haven’t used EQ since the 80s but then I thought; what about DIRAC and YPAO (and the like)? Don’t they include fairly elaborate EQs to adjust the frequency response of the individual speakers?

Andrew, are there any longevity/reliability issues with this process technology as compared to the traditional soldering through the board? I assume this process is mostly for production speed/efficiency?

Vertical sub stack is a real good configuration. 6 pack stack (2 stacks of 3 subwoofers) used next to the front L/R speakers. I am experimenting with the 6 pack stack at this time. Also, adding more subs could even be more beneficial in home theater configurations. In the future I am hoping to expand to using more subwoofers for a good sized home theater.

The exception to the resistors not going bad is if they are the old carbon composition resistors. Those can drift usually up in value from age.

I like to buy digital music so I can burn it onto a CD. For me it's less about the quality or supporting the artist and more about simply having a physical copy of music. Incase something happens to the internet, or streaming services. I still have my music available.

Hi there , thx for ur knowledge of impedance sharing . From ur entire presentation , can we said the power amp which rated 8 ohm and 4 ohm is capable to drive 6 ohm of passive loudspeaker without any issue ? As the speaker impedance is higher than power amp ? Thx

I use two small near field monitors and a sub, set up in a corner for my home studio. The near fields are rear ported, and the sub is front ported. I currently just have the sub sitting between the near fields on a desk top to minimze low end phasing between the sub and mains. I'm going to experiment with plugging the mains first to try to clean up the mud that gets fired into and amplified by the corner. Then I'll see what plugging the sub's port does. Then, I'm going to try an entirely different configuration, with the sub on the floor in the corner, and the mains making an equilateral triangle with both the sub and the ideal listening spot. That way, theoretically all three speakers will sound in phase at the sweet spot, i can minimize what gets directed into to corner, and the side reflections from the mains get directed around and past the sweet spot to rather than towards it.

Shorthand because mini speakers are made to play horrible electronic thumpy Bass music in party music which sounds terrible and those emphasize the low end. And when we say we want a speaker for classical music or jazz then we get a speaker that is flat and the kind of thing you're talking about.

Hi. Let me get this straight. I have a pair of active speakers (edifier airpulse a100) with subout RCA port and rel t5/x subwoofer with low level input and LFE input. From what I understood from your video I should stick RCA into the LFE because crossover is being done on the active speaker side? REL recommends sticking into the low level.

Yeah, I have a couch up against the wall and looking at 7.1 or maybe 5.1 as I've heard it's not really worth it (7.1) So if I put my bookshelf speakers in line with the listening position on the side walls for 5.1, how far from them do I place my ceiling speakers as rear back surrounds for 7.1? About a foot or 2 from the left/ right surrounds? Is it actually worth it to use the ceiling speakers for 7.1 rear back surrounds? Thanks in advance, and looking forward to hearing from you!

i use vintage set up but more modern speakers at least part time. a graphic EQ is a big part of that. the speakers i have are darker so it’s a great tool! boosting just 10k only on recievers doesn’t do enough. w other speakers that are bright tho i’ve found the EQ unnecessary

To add some color here, the following is true: Large drivers do not necessarily produce more bass. Small drivers in a large cabinet (assuming correct tuning and good driver quality) can produce great bass. If you're looking for low bass that's also loud with plenty of headroom, you almost certainly need a larger driver. If you look at the speakers used in live music and movie theatre application, they are huge, with huge woofers. However, that's because they're designed to hit insane volume levels and fill an enormous space with good bass. For HOME applications, you do not need a massive woofer in your speakers. It's also almost certainly not worth getting floor standing speakers to try and get more bass, partly because a subwoofer should be taking care of the very low frequencies anyways.

I am an audiophile.. but the entire concept of buying/selling gear to eq your sound is ridiculous. I have friends that will do that and will say to me "I'd like to hear your system without the eq"... lol... it's ignorant, snobby, and annoying.

Speakers have reactive components, therefore you have reactance. The speaker itself looks like a coil to the the circuit, and in coils current follows voltage and that phase difference causes a resistance since I=V/R. That's reactive resistance. Impedance is just the sum of pure resistance and reactive resistance. For capacitance it's the opposite - voltage follows current - but the same phase difference occurs and you still get reactive resistance. Reactive resistance is emergent from the fact that you have a phase difference due to the reactance of the circuit.

Hi, I am a ticket stub collector as well. I have saved all of my tickets from the first concert I went to as a kid. I have shared these with family and the moments I have done so have been really wonderful and filled with talking about our mutual love of music and their amazement that I had managed to hold onto everyone of those tickets. I have felt the same with the loss of physical tickets. That ticket stub was the link to the show and the connection to the memory. Its like that can't even give you a physical ticket despite the fact that they charge you so much to see the show now a days. Thank you for bringing this up.

I'd argue that people who know what they are talking about are saying anything like that now, since beryllium is the most commonly used material in super high-end tweeters now. Then you got ceramic one of hardest substances around, that are even more expensive right at the top.

Thanks for the video. I have been trying to convince myself to love 2 way bookshelves but even my Focal Sopra 1s don’t do it for me. It’s been my thought that the driver in a bookshelf speaker does double duty trying to do both mid and bass, whereas a 3 way speaker takes some of the work from the single driver in a bookshelf. I’m not understanding why people would be spending $10K and over for a pair of bookshelves other than for space considerations.

Absolutely not. I use a Marantz EQ-20 with a Marantz 2226B into a pair of Kenwood JL-630Ws and a Polk Audio Subwoofer. That EQ makes a HUGE difference. I don't give a single #@$% about tampering with the signal path. I want the sound to sound like I want it to. I would put my system up against others that cost 3 times as much. I also have my tape player running through a BSR 4000XR, which isn't as good as the EQ-20, but is still far and away better than the original signal. Both EQs have a defeater and you can hear clearly the massive difference in clarity and resolution. I was listening to The Talking Heads this morning and playing with the defeater, and there are elements you simply cannot hear in the un-equalized signal, particularly regarding the percussion. I'll never not use an EQ again.

Will 3 subwoofers (2 far-field, 1 near-field behind/on the corner behind the listening position) make an audible difference than 2 subwoofers (2 far-field)? If so, would the difference be bad in a way to stick back with dual or upgrade to 4 for a subtle upgrade?
