We had to do this in a place I worked. One of the doors auto closed and the door handle didn't work on one side. So whenever you went into that room you took the designated 2x4 cutting with you. Actually quite a serious safety issue if the stars aligned poorly.

Honestly I hate they left Erin alone when she got attacked but it makes sense(Not really but maybe a bit), they wanted to get out, they were panicking so they went and "packed" their bags. The others called out to Kate to stop but no one actually did, at that point I'd grab her wrist and just drag her back to the group.

They're legitimately pretty hard in these games, and Tom is legit the worst at them.

My theory is youre supposed to connect the dots that he is trying to kill using their "weaknesses". Charlie with fire because of the cigarettes. Erin from choking (asthma) and I'm willing to bet he will try to kill Mark with a fall (fear of heights). So I guess make the 'leap' in logic that he wouldnt kill katie with suffocation?

Classic horror victims.

Crows indicate that a particular path has been chosen (which may or may not involve death at all). The main indication that someone can "die soon" is the Curator standing somewhere in the background. If you spot him in the scene, it means one of the next few choices can kill one of the main characters.

It feels like it's written in such a way that most logical people would make those choices. Attack the man or take the inhaler? Attacking seems too aggressive. Run or hide? It does sound like Jamie, so let's hide. Kill Erin or Kate? Kate sucks, Erin is nice, also Jamie fancies Erin so duh. If you've found the Dark Picture for Charlie it's pretty obvious what to do in the fire room too. It felt honestly quite easy to keep characters alive (Except my group, we fucked up in the wall scene). Though I'm glad my personal difficulty was on forgiving, since I'm shit at quicktimes and I was playing Mark...so that ending could have been different

But the owner and some other people are cultists who kidnap them and drag them into the mine to an ancient buried city. The creature kills 7 people every 7 years. I’m going to have characters try to fight back, but in the end, the creature will kill exactly 7 people. So they didn’t really beat it. But the creature will kill some cultists so not all the friends die. There’s also a lot of side knowledge like how people went missing 7 years ago in the town. The family that originally lived in the lodge died. The miners died. But since 7 people get killed, there’s often survivors. Some survivors got trapped in the mine and starved to death. Other joined the cultists. Etc

I think that's what the Curator is referring to when he compliments how "realistic" some of the animatronics are and wonders "where he gets the parts." It's a bit subtle!

Yeah, it's really odd. One of the hints was actually the panicked shot of the cracked window on Kate's side, I think it was supposed to sacrifice one of them regardless, but with luck, Kate will survive regardless because she will suddenly notice it when it drops down when you choose her. Edit: there's another trap that also indicates the same concept of one has to die unless lucky

the telegraph that kate's room isn't fully sealed is *way* too subtle I think when the timing is that tight

I think the saw trap was supposed to indicate that both would die if nothing was done, on account of the timer counting down in the middle, but I'm not sure because if so it's not really highlighted. My first thought with the trap though was that they should choose Erin since she has asthma and won't last as long as Kate. More chance that there's someway to save Kate than Erin.

@@HmongHeroo when's the shot of the cracked window? I can't even see it on rewatching. I assumed you were meant to pick Erin and have her use her inhaler (though tbh that probably wouldnt work when talking about pressure)
