Here's a link to Part 2: • Do your own Pre-Purcha...
Getting a professional pre-purchase inspection done on an airplane you'd like to purchase is an important step. But in a pinch, you could have to do it yourself. A&P Kyle Fosso and part owner of Aircraft Remanufacturing Co walks us through the steps of how to accomplish your own pre-buy inspection. We’ll use a 1953 Cessna 170B with STOL kit owned by Larry Larrabure from the KZfaq channel ‪@motoadveBackcountry182‬. While it's technically a post-purchase inspection, Kyle also assesses Larry's job at doing his own pre-buy. In part 1 we do the exterior inspection and in part 2, we'll pull the plane in the hangar and pull some panels to look a bit deeper. My friend and Flying Cowboy Jon "Jughead" Counsell drops in with his dog Dakota to lend a hand.

VERY, VERY informative! When you are easily spending $100k + on a decade or more aircraft that you are truly depending your life on, this is invaluable. I really like Kyle's confidence, knowledge, recommendations and thoroughness. Would you or Kyle mind letting me (and your KZfaq followers) know what a detailed inspection like this from a professional SHOULD cost. I have see publised prices of $500/+ travel expenses but from what I watched in your video, Kyle's time for an inspection like this is way more valuable than that. Really enjoy your Rans build updates!

I love the long-form video. There is lots of great content and knowledge here. I might make one cinematographic suggestion. It would have been nice to stop down the lens a bit to help keep things in focus. I feel like detail is critical in videos like this.

Probably my favorite comment so far. Spot on! You clearly know cinematography so allow me to explain (at risk of making excuses). First day with the new camera. I usually do manual settings, but in an effort to keep up with the content, I went auto with a very fast lens and an ND filter. Good on Canon... they wanted to keep things open wide, but I didn’t realize 4K didn’t have dual pixel autofocus and really struggled. I am embarrassed but learned a lot. you may notice with your sharp eye, I like things shallow. But this was just bad... Keep holding me accountable, Scott!

Hi Mike. Congrats on the S21! You’ll love it. On this video, I used a Canon M50 (Mirrorless SLR). Lately I’ve used my iPhone 13 Pro for almost everything. Glad to have ya aboard!

Great question and congrats on taking the plunge. Three great resources for you to use are BeechTalk.com (free forum), American Bonanza Society (bonanza.org (paid)), and Savvy Aviation (savvyaviation.com (paid)). The last one is full service and expensive. I would start in order (beginning with BeechTalk). Let me know how it goes.
