I’ll never forget that Warriors-Clippers series in 2014. It was kinda overshadowed by the Sterling stuff but it was a great series went the full 7 games. After that series Warriors fire Mark Jackson, hire Steve Kerr, and the rest is history...

Despite the fact that he was coaching a team owned by a racist, he still kept his composure and encouraged his team to keep playing. Doc is a true leader.

NBA enabled Sterling for far too long. They waited too long to get rid of him.

They ignored his off the court legal issues, lawsuits etc. I'm in LA & I have always wondered how people rooted for the Clippers when Sterling had such an Un-Sterling reputation.
@MrBeatboxmasta
@MrBeatboxmasta 4 жыл бұрын
@@sunnyside9273 Even after it came out, you had owners like Mark Cuban who voted AGAINST forcing Sterling to sell his team. There will always be people who defend racists. The league had no choice but to wait for a smoking gun because the owners would have kept him. Think about it...nobody wants to work for him and he can't win anything. Those are all positives in the eyes of the other owners because the weaker your competition, the better. They couldn't use the other stuff against him because most owners cut every corner they can with their off the court businesses, as long as they can get away with it. They only voted them out of the league because they didn't want the heat that would come from the public if they sided with a racist.

It was not the worst franchise in sports, though Sterling was probably one of the worst owners. Rivers inherited a good team, with a 56 win record the prior year under Vinnie Del Negro--a good coach.

You had one of the best point guards, one of the best power forwards, and one of the best centers in the league along with a great supporting cast. Leading the Clippers to a championship was not the hardest challenge. It’s more impressive that you didn’t with all that talent.

It sounds like he had a clue about it. But I get why he took the job anyway. The lure of being a hero in sports, a franchise-saver, is huge. Magic Johnson turned the Lakers from an OK team into a celebrated dynasty. Isiah Thomas turned the Pistons from the joke of the NBA into a terrifying world champion. Michael Jordan turned the lowly Bulls into THE BULLS. Dwayne Wade turned a weak Miami Heat franchise into one of the top teams in basketball over the last decade. Steph Curry and Klay Thompson turned the Warriors from a lottery franchise into one of the best teams ever. LeBron James turned the Cleveland Cavaliers from laughingstock to world champions. Mark Messier turned the New York Rangers from a punchline in the NHL to a Stanley Cup Champion. Those guys are remembered as heroes. The idea of turning around a sorry franchise into a champion is a great challenge, and one that can make you immortal in sports.

👨🏾‍🏫Fun Fact: Sterling might have felt that 'white' players weren't coachable. I’ve personally observed that most teams seem reluctant to have more than 2 white players on the floor at the same time. Coincidence? #enlightenment🙇🏻‍♂️💡🤔 #themoreyouknow🌈💁🏾‍♂️
