I have taken Venlafaxine I did not like it and now I am on Desvenlafaxine I definitely prefer the second one as it keeps me relaxed I take it before bed.

(I love that meta analysis too and am guessing many docs would be astounded to see amitriptyline at the top of the leader board!)

Most SSRIs delay. If it worked as an antidepressant, you could always try adding a bit of an SSRI.

It would be reasonable to give it a try. It should also have a lower chance of causing high blood pressure compared to desvenlafaxine. But talk to your provider about this. Good luck!

I probably wouldn’t risk it since Amitriptyline is a tricyclic antidepressant and has a worse side effect profile, meaning your experience may worsen by taking it.

In terms of efficacy for depression, amitriptyline is a very powerful antidepressant. The TCAs were discovered because they were improving the mood of non-depressed people. The side effects are different, but for some people they are not worse. Amitriptyline actually improves sleep and rarely causes sexual dysfunction. The TCAs are more lethal in overdose which is probably the main reason docs don't like to prescribe them anymore.

@@ihague4568My psychiatrist is one of these practitioners since he particularly opposes TCAs’ side effect profiles and overdose lethality. While they may be effective, some other options are more viable like mirtazapine, whose function, as you definitely know, is to aid comorbid insomnia. Yes, both amitriptyline and mirtazapine cause weight gain through increased appetite, as well as sexual dysfunction, but mirtazapine’s profile is generally more favourable in terms of these incidences. Besides, newer antidepressants are far more tolerable and safe compared to TCAs, and incredibly enough, I was prescribed Brintellix exactly because Cymbalta (ironic, but that doesn’t disprove my point) caused sexual dysfunction, since it has a more favourable sexual dysfunction profile and improves cognitive functioning unlike TCAs which can impair them as a side effect.

think he had a vid on it recently, if i remember correctly, he mentioned hes on 1mg fin, and 2.5 mg oral minixodil. I could be wrong about min, but im fairly certain hes on 1mg fin

Just finasteride 1.25 mg now. used to use minoxidil 5% twice daily too but haven't had the time recently.

Yep agreed! Switched to 40mg from 100mg sertraline 6 months ago. Pretty light drug clinically Id agree but worth it for sexual response! Do you have sexual experience on MAOIs?

@@jamestrentham8576 yeh sertraline is a shocker for sexual side effects but I can honestly say tranylcypromine (parnate) and moclobemide I've taken both neither have any sexual side effects to speak of at all
