This episode of a psych doctor REACTS is a TRAINWRECK! As requested, I'm checking out this brilliant episode of It's Always Sunny where the gang have therapy. The gang are a bit of a mess. Dennis is a psychopath. Mac is in the closet at this point and has body dysmorphia. Frank's been in a psychiatric hospital as a child. Dee is constantly berated by the gang so her self-esteem is non-existent. Charlie can't read, drinks bleach and is basically a chaotic toddler in an adult mans body.
The therapist tries her best but ultimately, even she struggles to contain the gang. This episode lets us look at some of the personality traits of the gang but also the practicalities of therapy and the medicine behind it.
Good luck everyone....

Personally I see the end where the therapist says fuck it and tells Dee to do the dishes as the quickest way to insure she never sees any of these people ever again. Considering Dee was her only actual patient and we all know Dee never stepped foot back in that office ever again after that decision.

I gotta disagree, A. She should definitely remain professional and just tell them she is ending treatment with them, if it gets further than you get some higher powers involved(restraining order..etc). But also B. Dee is the only one who hates her at the end. THe gang goes back to people that they DONT like (the lawyer, uncle jack, the Mcpoyles) for help on certain matters, the rest of the gang complimented her for being a good therapist. I think it was the wrong way to go about it.
@NoelleMar
@NoelleMar Жыл бұрын
I thought that wasn’t the point though-yes she is getting them out of her hair, but it’s not being a “good therapist.” Don’t get me wrong, in terms of safety or whatever I very much understand her reaction lol.

You left the best part out; when Frank revealed that Dennis and Dee were actually originally triplets. "We were going to call him Donny, he would have been the good one. But Dennis and Deandre DEVOURED him." That's why at the end of this when Charlie was choking Dennis and Frank was encouraging him "do it Charlie! Kill him.. Kill him; get him for Donny!"

My therapist is a Vietnam combat veteran, and he told me a story about a guy who was discharged because of Conversion Disorder. He knew a young man who DREAMED of being a fighter pilot. He joined the air force, went through all the training, had hundreds of hours of practice, and not once did he have any problems. He was committed and enthusiastic all the way through. Then the second they put him in a cockpit for an actual mission, he went blind. He couldn't move his eyes, his pupils didn't respond to light. They just stopped working COMPLETELY. And it happened every single time he got in a plane, or the gunner seat. He had to be discharged and sent home from Vietnam because of it. (I think he told me the story because I don't know when I'm anxious either, until it becomes physical. Nothing nearly as extreme, though.) also, hilarious that it took all of 3 lines to diagnose Dennis PERFECTLY.

Stress physical effects can be absolutely insane. I used to faint at completely random times several times a day like I had narcolepsy, luckily a cardiologist identified the problem in a snap.

On the first note, physical pains and itches can also come out of emotions deflecting into another type of discomfort. I experience sensory delusions like that often, and while I'm definitely more aware of intense pains or the feelings of bone surfaces scratching where I can't get them, I definitely have periods where I can itch up my face or my scalp without noticing because I'm going through some kind of stress. And yes, the surfaces of your bones itching feels just as horrifying as it sounds.

The problem with DBT is when you need DBT often psychiatrists will just throw your case out cause you are seen as "difficult"

Me too. The state of my house is as good an indicator as to where I am mentally, as anything.

I absolutely love Charlie, but Dennis is by far the most interesting character on the show.

dennis is not a psychopath, he's just built many layers. not only that he is also the most sensitive and vulnerable out of the gang.
