This is a movie reaction to my first time watching Doctor Strange (2016), directed by Scott Derrickson and released within Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I had no idea this movie would be so heavy with MAGIC, sorcery, and multiverse stuff and I'm here for it! The visuals in this film are incredible. The characters and casting were fun, especially Benedict Cumberbatch. Make sure to stick around to the end of this video for my full thoughts and review and thank you so much for watching!

Something that is easy to miss in the credits is that Cumberbatch pulled double duty in this film: he also provides the voice for Dormamu. Also, I can never see Mordo without thinking of the actor's role as the bounty hunter in "Serenity."

And a new dimension, mind the pun, of the MCU is revealed magic and mysticism. Strange in a lot of ways is just like Tony a wealthy successful man with a sharp tongue and an ego the size of a continent. Until a tragic accident ruined him forced him to become humble and be more than he thought he was. Except while Tony is a man of technology Stephen found his purpose in ancient primordial energies. What I really love about this movie is how Strange defeated the main villain not with strength or smarts but by annoying the hell out of Dormammu until he gave into his demands which is admirable all the times Stephen had to die and suffer for the world until Dormammu surrendered.

I'll be pedantic. Dr. Strange is a sorcerer. He uses knowledge of natural and supernatural forces to cast spells. Wanda was experimented on with one of the infinity stones and the result was more like her becoming a mutant. In fact, in the comic books she is a mutant.

Of all the MCU movies, which I’ve thoroughly enjoyed since the start, this one, and Doctor Strange, resonate the most with me personally. 2 decades of constant pain, 12 years of major surgeries, 5 of them, after many screws, plates, titanium cages and donor bone I’m 80% pain free. It’s hard to describe what years worth of recovery is like to others, but let’s just say it can take a toll on you, for many it gets REALLY dark and the only way to deal with it is to lash out in anger. It’s not anger at anyone in particular, it’s just general and raw, but it feels like you’re the target if you’re on the other side. Strange isn’t acting that way to her in particular, she’s just the closest one to him, he’s angry, bitter and frustrated with what happened to him. What I love about this one is that the solution for him was more spiritual than surgical as is often the case. The mind can work magic if you just let it.

Strange and Christine were a "thing" a long time ago. That's why she came up with the "Strange policy" or whatever she said. She dated him, it ended bad, so she doesn't date other co workers. But they still are cute together and there's still a spark there in this movie. They've learned to be friends still. Even if difficult on her at times

I believe the eye glitter was practical. If you go back to where he's talking to strange in the contraption you can see his eyes tear up from the irritation. They don't say it in the movie, but Dr. Strange basically *power-leveled* himself against Dormamu, amirite? I mean, when you're playing a game with protection beyond your level in order to fight baddies way above your level... and you gain lots of experience from it... that's power leveling. He got to try a bunch of different spells against a resisting opponent (vs imagining one with McDojo katas in the mirror dimension), so he could really get a feel for whether he can survive certain attacks or not, and which kind of defenses work best against those attacks... while practicing his defenses under duress in rapid succession (the old "Think fast!" school yard flinch check). So yeah, that's my head canon. He upped himself over and over, using his superior memory to maximize the extremely unique training opportunity.

It's interesting, because, with the addition of Benedict Cumberbatch, there's now two Sherlock Holmeses in the MCU. And Benedict is with Robert Downey Jr.'s Irene Adler. And they are essentially the same archetype, being that Dr. Strange is a doctor/sorceror and Tony Stark is a bit of a mad scientist. EDIT: They also both start off as arrogant jerks and become humbled by their experiences.

Love the reaction.. just as a little backstory.. Benedict Cumberbatch was a LOT of the fan's choice to be Dr Strange in the MCU. Marvel really listened to their fanbase when they cast him and then announced it at the 2016 Comic Con. There were a lot of people that didn't think magic could work in the MCU. It was really cool to see how that all worked out.

I'm sorry you had to cancel your trip to Nepal because of the pandemic. My brother and his wife were halfway through their trip in March of 2020 when everything started suddenly shutting down. They had to quickly make their way back to Kathmandu and wait in an empty hotel (all the help lived across the border and had gone home) for a week while the American Consulate arranged for a flight to bring them back to the US. It wasn't their first trip to Nepal, but it was quite an adventure on its own. As for Doctor Strange, it was one of my favorite comics when that same brother allowed me to read through his Marvel collection in the 1970s, and I was extremely pleased with how the movie turned out. All the character/place/item names that are difficult to remember are from the comics and, in many cases they pre-date the names with which they are so easily confused. I am so glad you enjoyed this movie. As I said, it is one of my favorites and people who watch it tend to love it or not care for it at all.

Some surgeons do listen to music when they operate and there are some that don’t like to have music played. I know when my wife had her c-section they played some 80s music which is a big favorite of my wife and myself. It helped to keep us both relaxed. 8:43 I deal with chronic pain everyday and it’s hard to manage at times especially with stress added to the mix. I always have to remind myself to not take the frustration of the pain out on my family. Especially when we are having an argument about something small. Benedict Cumberbatch does a great job portraying Dr Strange. His portrayal mimics most of the animated versions I’ve seen. I love how Dr Strange deals with Doramomu. Mordo is a very dangerous man cause he’s the kind that only sees in black and white and doesn’t allow for any gray/color areas. The world isn’t black and white. You have to color outside the lines sometime within reason.

Dr. Strange has always been my favorite character. The beautiful artwork and mystic aesthetic was fascinating to me as a kid. Always explained him to people unfamiliar with the character as 'Batman with magic instead of tech'. I also completely loved the fact they didn't have him defeat Dormammu through magical strength/force. He outmaneuvered him instead. The movie captures the style and look I feel in love with in the comic panels all those years ago. Story wise, this may not be the strongest MCU flick, but it's my favorite.

This is my favorite Marvel movie. I liked how it was different by embracing magic and mind bending visuals. At the beginning of the movie, Stephen is self-centered, arrogant, unsympathetic, dismissive and emotionally dysfunctional. The only real value he places on himself is his ability to be an excellent surgeon. He measures everyone against (and therefore, below) his himself. He's borderline sociopathic at the beginning, but I think it has more to do with him being an extreme narcissists than being bad. He simply doesn't place value on other people unless they can do something for him. It's fun to watch him grow and change as the movie progresses.

I remember seeing this movie in the theater and loving it. I was so impressed that they were able to convincingly pull off "magic" in this universe that has almost entirely to this point been grounded in science. Other than Wanda, Doctor Strange is the first character we've seen in the MCU with mystical abilities. You may not remember, but Doctor Strange was mentioned in "CA the Winter Soldier" when Agent Sitwell was running off names of potential threats.

Between the crash and him running out of money probably takes most of phase 1 and 2. We see the seasons pass in Kamartage from spring to autumn. I think that's how the time frame goes. And when really knows how long Strange spends in that time loop.

Hi kaiielle. Once again you're a joy to watch. Like you I love visual epic effects. My collection is big!! I'm a massive Marvel fan and Doctor strange is one of my favourite original solo story. I do wish you had seen in 3D IMAX. It was breathtakingly mind blowing stunning. This is the reason why I own all of the Marvel films done in 3D. You haven't seen nothing yet because their is much more see and blow your mind. Your passion for this reminds me of my own. Have a great day and stay wonderful 🤩💖💫🙏🏾

This is one of my favourite movies in the MCU, there is something about Doctor Strange that really catches my attention. I feel like the fact he died millions of times in the dark dimension and no one knows about it is kind of tragic.

If you like Chiwetel Ejiofor, you should watch the Firefly series & then the linked movie Serenity. He's in the movie, not the series, but you have to watch the series first to really get the full impact of the movie. There are only 14 episodes of the series (it was cancelled before they finished the season) so it's not a huge commitment! 🔎 Couldn't find a mirror emoji!

So the watch drawer is actually based on a real thing, an automatic winder. Automatic watches, work on motion throughout the day. An automatic winder constantly turns them to keep them wound. Sadly, the thing that makes it look cool is completely superfluous because the watches are facing straight up. To work, they would have to be on their sides.

Kaiielle ... you don't just love magic....you love the bad guys! Oh no haha. (Antman ,and now Dr. Strange). (However ... that is what makes these MCU movies good, is that everyone, good guys, bad guys, and those in between ... often have more depth.) As for the Ancient One .... Tilda Swinton - I love anything she is in. And of course ... the emoji ... 🪞

When my friend and I saw this we decided on IMAX 3D or not at all, which was AWESOME! I could find no flaws with this movie, and after the first scene we said, "If you don't find that awesome you have to be a Jane Austen fan, or just stupid!" I'm immensely enjoying your reactions, I hope to see your reviews of Shang-Chi and others soon. Have you seen or done the X-Men movies yet? And if you wanna see Chiwetel Ejiofor at his best and most sinister, do a reaction of Serenity. (You don't even need to watch Firefly to get everything. Written and Directed by the genius Joss Whedon)

🪞🪞🪞Of the current 40 MCU projects, I rank this movie at #23, which seems brutal, but not really I just really love the MCU altogether! [This is not a spoiler]… I know you don’t like watching trailers before watching movies (which is bonkers to me 😁), but something in this movie reminded me of a special trailer leading up to Avengers Endgame. If you won’t watch it before Endgame then right after you should watch the “To The End” trailer to that movie. It is an awesome piece of art.

Great to see how much you enjoyed this one, Kaiielle. It surprised a lot of people with just how well it turned out, and how smoothly and believably it introduced a new aspect of the MCU. You seem to be developing an uncanny knack of predicting things in these films: further info on Kaecilius, the appearance of Dormammu, Wong's sole laugh, etc. My favourite prediction of yours... Kaiielle: "He's about to have his mind blown." Me: "My friend, you have no idea." 🪞 Thanks for so many entertaining videos!

Love this film. Glad you liked it! When you mentioned you had only seen Chiwetel Ejiofore in this movie and the martian, my immediate reaction was "wait... that means you haven't seen the movie Serenity... and that means you probably haven't seen the tv series Firefly..." and then I promptly checked the channel to make sure there was no Firefly or Serenity anywhere. So I guess this is my way of recommending Firefly and Serenity. lol The only things I will say is that Firefly is a space western series that lasted for only 14 episodes before it was cancelled (due to Fox nonsense) but was beloved enough to get a movie a few years later called "Serenity" to give it a more satisfying end. Oh, and also the creator of Firefly directed the first two Avengers movies, fyi.

You asked if surgeons do something like this in the beginning of the movie. and the answer is a clear YES. surgeons reacted to this movie in the past and all said that its not uncommon to play music or make some jokes, depending on the needed procedure and worktime.

You might have missed it, but one of the patients he was getting offered in the car was a "US Airforce colonel with a spinal injury from a mechanical suit". He was offered the chance to operate on Rhodey (Warmachine) to help him walk again, but turned it down because it wasn't 'interesting' enough.
@Architraz_PHX

Late to the reply, but I subscribe to the theory that the pilot in question was the guy in Hammer's suit in Iron Man 2. It would take some time for Strange to train in the montages and get caught up to the main timeline where Rhodes was just injured.
