Enemy of the World impressed me so much when it came back...so unique for Troughton’s Doctor. Love Power of the Daleks. Invasion is also great. Always loved The Moonbase. Season 4 is great. Hope these episodes come back!

I wish they would find ‘The Faceless Ones’ and ‘The Evil of the Daleks’ I love: 1. The Tomb of the Cybermen 2. The Enemy of the World 3. Invasion of the Cybermen 4. The Mind Robber 5. The Web of Fear And I know it’s preposterous but I love The Krotons. I know they’re ridiculous...but I was very young the first time I saw that episode and the first time I heard that booming, deep voice go ‘Stop!’ I sat up so straight! It was a better time in my life and I think that’s why I love it so much.

The War Games is my favourite Troughton story. Evil of the Daleks and the Abominable Snowmen are the stories with missing episodes I most miss.

Power of the Daleks is a pretty good story. It's also the only story during the Second Doctor's original televised run not to feature Jamie

Scariest era of Doctor Who ever, with Tennant's in second and Baker T's earning a bronze medal. My heart leaps into my throat when a Yeti roars and bears its claws. I wouldn't want to find one on the loo in Tooting Bec I can tell you (thank you Jon for that lovely phrase that is now firmly embedded in the parlance of Doctor Who). 6. The Tomb of the Cybermen 5. The Seeds of Death 4. The War Games 3. The Power of the Daleks 2. The Invasion 1. The Web of Fear Oh, and I thoroughly enjoyed The Wheel of Ice by Stephen Baxter!

When you say "If you haven't seen this, I totally recommend it" As someone who has grown up watching this era, having watched the 'Seeds of death' on VHS 📼 in 1985 then finally the 'Enemy of the World' in 2013 with various loose cannon recons in between. I fully recommend that you watch this era where possible using all available source materials.

Web and Moonbase are favourites of mine. Also got a soft spot for The Dominators and the Krotons. Surprised not to see The Mind Robber on your list though!

I love how for seemingly no reason at all, the entire Macra Terror is filled with people offhandedly insulting Jamie. It's REALLY funny, especially since he's the only companion who's useful in the story yet gets no respect. It's just savagely hilarious. The Doctor is nicer to Ben who's literally been brainwashed and Polly who just screams the entire time than he is to Jamie WHO DOES ALL THE WORK

Finally, someone that gives the Marcra Terror credit. Its my favorite Doctor Who episode of all time

The Invasion is so great. It hooks from beginning to end, surprising given that it needs to be split between two discs. For eight parts, it feels just as short as five or six part story. One of my favourite sixties stories.

Love the Macra Terror, Web of Fear is also great to watch at night with friends just to hear the iconic "I WARNED YOU JULIUS, I WARNED YOU!!!", to see Travers's reactions, the Brigadier, the Yeti and the Great Intelligence. So watching the Abominable Snowmen first could be a fun idea too. Tomb of the Cybermen is a great exploration episode, Invasion is a great Cybermen special and Enemy of the World is a very interesting mystery to unveil (and prepare yourself for a ride with the worst evil employee of the month "Benik"... it's a bumpy ride of emotions in those scenes). The Mind Robber is beautifully weird, the Dominators is not a common fan favourite but there's a good argument in there and we see the "trickster fool" element of the Doctor at the forefront, the War Games is a climatic conclusion to the 2nd Doctor's saga well worth watching (a "must watch" for certain)... I could be babbling all day about what I love from the Cosmic Hobo era, gotta love the Trout man

The Tomb of the Cybermen will forever be my favourite episode, I can not stress enough how much I love I love the design of the cybermen, the doctor's speech to Victoria, the fear I had when the guys were hiding in the tunnels, the soundtrack is one of my favourites and the duo of the Doctor and Jamie always makes me happy.

To be precise, Power of the Daleks, War Games and Enemy of the World are my favorite Second Doctor stories. As for Tomb of the Cybermen, I saw part 1 and haven’t seen parts two, three and four yet!

You’ve captured most of my favourite Troughton movements there, Josh. The Krotons is one of my favourites because of the chemistry between the Doctor and Zoe and the concept of the Krotons themselves is fantastic but let down by the limits on making Doctor Who at the time. The Abominable Snowmen is my favourite story. Hope we see some more of it one day.

So much good material! Great stories and the wonderful Patrick Troughton…The Invasion is just so fantastic on so many levels. It is the one i end up recommending to Troughton newbies. Have to add though that re-discovery of “Enemy of the World” stands out as one of the best strokes of good luck Who fans have had…and a major high point of the 50th anniversary year - which offered plenty to be excited about. it is a top favorite, and demonstrates how amazing Troughton was as a screen presence.

The Moonbase is my personal favourite because of its atmospheric mood. The Macra Terror is also up there for being a brilliant expose on how even the most intelligent people can be secretly controlled and manipulated.

Best Fourth Doctor Stories: EVERYTHING up until after Horror of Fang Rock, with a couple exceptions.

All the different opinions are so fascinating! Here's my six: 1) The Power of the Daleks 2) The War Games 3) Fury From the Deep 4) The Abominable Snowmen 5) The Invasion 6) The Evil of the Daleks Thanks for all your great and fun videos!

My ranking for every 2nd Dr Story goes like this: 21). The Underwater Menace = I would class it as a bad story if it wasn’t for Episode 3 and Professor Zaroff. 20). The Ice Warriors = It’s alright but it drags a bit and the human characters are so annoying in this story. 19). The Krotons = Had an interesting start but just got duller for me as the story continued. 18). The Space Pirates = Yes the main cast don’t do much, the sets look cheap and you can’t tell what most of the characters are saying but I really enjoyed it when watching it. It’s meant to be silly and quite crap and that’s why I like it. 17). The Highlanders = So close to being a good story but it is just so unengaging. 16). The Dominators = Yes the Quarks look stupid, it drags at some points and a Quark was literally defeated by being pushed over but I can’t help but like it. There’s a reason why it was one Patrick Troughton’s favourite stories. 15). The Abominable Snowmen = I feel like I would enjoy this a lot more of it wasn’t missing 5/6 of its episodes but it just bores me at at so many points when I watch a reconstruction. Maybe it’s the lack of music. 14). The Wheel in Space = A solid story. Just slow at some parts. 13). The Macra Terror = Love episode 1 & 2. Episode 3 & 4 are just a bit slow for my liking and it does rap up far too quickly. 12). The Seeds of Death = Now we are getting to the great stuff. I just prefer the other stories more. 11). The Faceless Ones = Creepy bodysnatchers on an airport. Brilliant! Just wish Ben & Polly we’re in it more. 10). The Mind Robber = Basically The production crew said “screw logic,” and made something beautiful. 9). The Moonbase = Such a tense and foreboding atmosphere. Just ends to quickly. 8). Tomb of the Cybermen = One of the best paced classic stories with some of the best stock music, the best sets and the best Cybermen lines. 7). The Web of Fear = Basically everything I praised Tomb of the Cybermen for but with the Yeti and the Brigadier. 6). Enemy of the World = One of the best directed, written, acted and interesting stories the show has ever had. I can’t stop rewatching it. 5). The War Games = Would be the best regeneration story for me if it wasn’t for The Caves of Androzani. IT’S 10 EPISODES LONG AND I’M HOOKED FOR EVERY SINGLE ONE!!! 4). Evil of the Daleks = The story I want recovered the most as it is one of the best Dalek stories, it was the original end of the Daleks, the musics great, the atmospheres great and it is my dad’s earliest memory of his life, watching Episode 7 with the “Dizzy Daleks” and the destruction of the Emperor Dalek. PLEASE SOMEBODY FIND THIS ONE!!! 3). Power of the Daleks = It and Remembrance are the best Dalek stories for me. Slow but effective pacing, great use of music, weak but terrifying Daleks, what’s not to love...apart from the fact that all the episodes are missing. 2).Fury from the Deep = The creepiest classic Doctor Who story. Great characters, looked like it had fantastic direction, one of the best Incidental tracks of the entire show and such a beautifully written story. WHY IS IT MISSING???!!! 1). The Invasion = Great writing, great villains, great acting, great pacing, great direction, great Incidental music, great...EVERYTHING!!! It feels so big. It feels like it could be full series and beautiful writing. Probably my favourite Doctor Who story and my favourite bit of television.

This just reminds me that the 2nd Doctor really is the penultimate version of the Doctor simply the best out of all of them along with the best companion Jamie.

Very good choices, I've been a lifelong Doctor Who fan and the Second Doctor is superb. Some classic choices there, I would definitely consider Power of the Daleks to be in the mix there but the Macra Terror is a recent discovery for me that is both perfectly paced and entertaining.

The Invasion was one of my first classic stories and it too ignited my love of both the animated reconstructions and the missing episodes. I love it so much

Great insight as always. Here's my list in chronological order... 1. Power of the Daleks. Yes, the Doctor is just finding his feet but the Daleks are so cunning and calculating as opposed to the shouty thugs they are today. Plus there is an amazing performance by Robert James as Lesterson, whose descent into madness is chilling. "I am your ser-vant" 2. The Moonbase. Troughton has really hit his stride, hasn't he? By equal measure comic and deadly serious, he commands the screen. "There are some corners..." It's the classic bass under siege story and the guest cast, in particular Patrick Barr is solid. It's also my favourite version of the Cybermen, vacuum tubing and practice golf balls and all. 3. Evil of the Daleks. The Doctor at his most manipulative. So much so that Jamie actually gets mad at him. Marius Goring and John Bailey are great in their guest roles and Victoria makes a fine debut. The Emperor is a stunning bit of set design but it is Troughton that takes centre stage. 4. Tomb of the Cybermen. I agree with everything you said about this one. I love it for other reasons too, including some really, really, REALLY bad American accents, the visible wires on Toberman when he gets thrown across the room and the empty Cyber Leader suit he then throws across the room. Plus there is George Pastell's pompous Klieg, whose death at the hands of a Cyberman is chilling. Troughton is superb. 5. Fury From the Deep. I've expressed my passion for this one at least once a week on your channel but it is superb on every level. Great guest actors, moments of pure horror such as van Lutyens being pulled under in the impeller shaft as his screams echo up to the control room and Maggie Harris impassively walking into the sea, Chilling. 6. The Invasion. Kevin Stoney as Doctor Who's greatest human villain. End of discussion. Taunting Watkins into shooting him so we can see that he has been partially converted is a shocking moment. His only failing as a villain why he ever hired the WORST henchman of all time...Packer. Listen to the incredible variety of vocal tones that Stoney employs just saying that one word...Packer. It's priceless. And the crazed Cyberman in the sewers scared the absolute crap out of me when I was a kid. Looking forward to your next video!

But if it comes down to it, I love them all. ( even the weak stories). Dr who would not be here without the weak stories. No one can write classics without a few brummies. Enemy of the World is such an underrated gem. It's one of my all time favourites from Troughton's era, that ending gives me goosebumps every time.

Great video, Josh! My top 6 Troughton stories in chronological order are: The Highlanders (The last pure historical until Black Orchid in 1982. Would be great to see it animated in colour - all that tartan would make for some sumptuous visuals); The Faceless Ones (Great contemporary-set story. The Chameleons are genuinely chilling. Wonderful scenes with Jamie and Samantha Briggs. Such a shame Pauline Colins didn't join the regular cast) ; Evil of the Daleks (Probably the Troughton I would like most to see returned to the archives. Love the Victorian scenes and the idea of Time travelling Daleks); The Web of Fear (a real gem that stands up to all the hype); Fury From The Deep ( First use of the sonic screwdriver - even if just that clip was recovered it would be really exciting. The menace of Oak and Quill); The Invasion (a great 60s take on "the 70s"- love the iconography of the Cybermen marching through the Capital. My autistic cousin adores this serial! Also, just imagine how glorious the London based scenes would look in colour! To get some idea check out The Tyrant King (available elsewhere on KZfaq) made in 1968 by Thames TV in colour - it is a visually stunning artefact of a city which has changed so much since.

Although I saw the very first episode in the scrapyard with William Hartnell, Patrick Troughton is, and always will be, my favourite Doctor. I have always rated Troughton as a superb actor, his portrayal of the Doctor is unique and entertaining. It is so sad that many episodes are lost. We know why the BBC did what they did, but it is a piss poor excuse and their incompetence means a lot of iconic and even historical footage is lost forever. I still think they should remake the lost Dr Who episodes with look alike actors, in black and white, reproducing the same low budget sets.That is the least they can do as they have done very nicely with sales of videos and DVD's. Time to spend some of the profits putting a very great wrong right!

Power of the Daleks and Web of Fear should surely be added to make a top 8 :-) I recently watched Tenth Planet and PotD back to back and tried to imagine what it must have been like for viewers coming to terms with a new lead for the first time ever. Just like Ben and Polly, you’d be unsure as to whether this man was the Doctor, especially when he refers to himself in the 3rd person. ‘The Doctor kept a diary, didn’t he?’ It’s like he’s not sure he’s the Doctor any more either. And like you say, David Whittaker really rounds out the character of the Daleks as scheming and intelligent. As for Web of Fear, while the yeti in the London Underground makes for great claustrophobic and creepy viewing, the running street battles with UNIT are just so much fun, especially as I thought I’d never get to see them!

Great work Josh, as always. I don't wish to look like a grasping little Fagin, (spot the *incredibly* tenuous reference) though I am interested to see what your favourite six Pertwee stories are.

A most interesting result. Thanks for posting. Of course, the fact that so many episodes are missing impacts the result. I grew up with the end of the Troughton era, although I always considered Jon Pertwee as ‘my doctor’. But, even my view is affected by the missing episodes. The audiobooks, and reference to the scripts helps to fill-in some of the gaps. Personally, I would have: 1. The Power of the Daleks 2. The Web of Fear 3. Fury from the Deep It’s difficult to order my list after the Top 3, but The War Games and The Invasion would be among the next group.

I wish we had at least the audio of the rebroadcast version of Evil of the Daleks with its dialog between The Doctor and Zoe.

Articulate and well-judged as ever. I remember showing my son the Tomb when he was seven. He was utterly transfixed.

The second Doctor is my favourite Doctor, or one of my favourite, because I also love the seventh and the eleventh as much as the second. The first Serial I saw of the second Doctor must have been Tomb of the Cybermen, when I bought the Revisitation Set #3 on a british Airport on a flight from Africa to Austria. I love that Story and because it was the first I saw of the second Doctor it holds a very Special Place for me. Next up would be The Enemy of the World - originally I was looking forward to see Web of Fear (just like you) but when it was announced that only Enemy was discovered completly I bought that DVD instead and really started to enjoy it. Troughton plays both parts (Salamander and the Doctor) completly different and it is amazing. Gladly they revisited the Salamander Plot in one of the recent third Doctor Comics "The Heralds of Destruction". Next up would be Power of the Daleks for the first "Post-Regeneration" Serial as well as the great reapearence of the Daleks. Last but not Least would be War Games. What an epic Adventure it is! I understand people saying it's far too long and some episodes are nonsensical. But I really enjoy it and I'm really lokking forward to see the Serial for the first time with a german Dub next Month when it's released in Germany :D Btw. do you have some Informations on the various foreign dubs (italien, french, german etc.) which were made for classic Doctor Who? It would be interesting to see/hear where Doctor Who was broadcasted, or how much because not every Country got every Story or Doctor. (would be a nice Video-Series Idea ;))

1 The wheel in space, if you've seen the whole thing like I have you'd know why. The Cybermen are absolutely terrifying and kill everybody. 2 Power of the Daleks, which I have seen twice because the BBC DID repeat it. 3 Web of fear 4 The War games 5 The Invasion 6 The Seeds of death Ps I am always hearing that the Evil of the Daleks was the only story repeated, but I remember seeing Power twice as well as the Highlanders, the Ice Warriors, Enemy of the world, Fury from the deep, the space pirates and others. These stories were all definitely repeated, and as far as I remember in full, but maybe the odd episode was omitted, as I can't recall exactly. I would say at least 4 episodes of POTD were repeated and the same for Fury from the deep.

I'm not really into science fiction but I really have enjoyed your videos on the missing episodes and other such topics. From the existing clips I think I like Hartnell and Troughton the best, but I haven't seen nearly enough of the show to judge. I would love to see this doppelganger story for the first time because it just makes me wonder how on earth they managed to film the Doctor and his look alike in the same scene back in the 60s. It always fascinates me the idea of an actor playing two different parts in the same episode/show and I have no idea how that was even managed. I would love to see a Making of Video that covers the production and whatnot. I heard there was a serial where William Hartnell's Doctor had a look alike, The Massacre which unfortunately is part of the missing episode saga. The Tardis wiki says they didn't appear together on screen. I just hope that one is somehow recovered so I can see how that particular story went down.

Enemy of the world I think is my favorite shortly followed by Tomb. I didn't get on too well with the Macra Terror, and slap me because I still haven't seen The Invasion! My first 2nd Doctor story was The Ice Warriors, Quite enjoyed that one.

I thought I was the only person who loved the macra terror so much! I'm glad Im not the only one who does, it deserves waaaaay more love and I think the animation will really help people enjoy this episode more since I think people find the loose cannon reconstructions difficult to watch. Even if the original macra look awful I still love them, it will always be in my top 5 episodes.

It's a tough call but I'll say: "The Web of Fear", "The Invasion", "The Evil of the Daleks", "The War Games", "The Seeds of Death", and "The Mind Robber".

I love your list. I would love to see Evil of the Daleks, The Invasion and Maccra Terror Recovered (though honestly we would like all the missing episodes recovered). For me my first episode was The Krotons and another great one (although a sad one) was The War Games. In all Troughton is for me one of the top doctors, up there with Pertwee, Tom Baker and Hartnell as my top 4 Doctors (not to knock 80’s era Who as I do like McCroy and some Colin Baker too).

Excellent video. I would agree with most of your choices. .although I still haven't seen the Macra Terror yet. My choices would be: 6. The Web of Fear 5. The Dominators (I have a soft spot for this one) 4. The Tomb of the Cybermen 3. The Power of the Daleks 2. The Mind Robber (extremely underated and a perfect story to lead into my number one) 1. The Invasion (Easily his best story and I love we go from The Mind Robber into this one..a total sci-fi mysteries story into an earth based adventure.)

My favourite Troughton story is - whichever story I am watching at the time.

I'd definetly add Power Of The Daleks and The War Games. Fury From The Deep, despite being missing, is pretty good too.
