In my first commentary video I try my hand a creating a Doctor Who Tardis notebook using the Japanese bookbinding method to make it.

Scalpel
Metal Ruler
Bone Folder
Screw Hole Punch
Elmer's Craft Bond Extra Strength Glue Stick
Original Hi Tack All Purpose Glue
Materials:
Greyboard x2 10cm x 13cm
Greyboard x2 10cm x 0.5cm
Greyboard x2 10cm x 2.5cm
Book Cloth x2 9.7cm x 12.7cm
Book Cloth x2 13cm x 8cm
Book Cloth 20cm x 20cm

Would it be okay to use cereal box material?

I don't see why not. Its always worth giving things a try. If you Google or image search Japanese bookbinding you will see that traditionally that this technique is used to make softcover books. If your going to make a softcover version you could always try using card as the book will be a little more flexible. If you make one let me know how you get on :)
