Why do both of you think that River should have known it was the doctor when they first met in "The Husbands of River Song"? Given that it was the first and only time she met that version of the Doctor. BTW I loved "Last Christmas" mostly because Clara doesn't leave.

When 10 says "It's my honor" to Wilf in the end. I don't think that's only the doctor saying it's my pleasure to save you. He also feels that he needs to protect his own honor in the end because if he doesn't save people he's not the doctor

I just started thinking about this as you guys talk about the capaldi specials, and I feel in somewhere but 12 regeneration and it being the start of a new regeneration cycle might bring along some childishness. A sort of regression in some ways

The End of Time The 12th Doctor is my favorite of the 4 who have had Festive Specials and the Moffett era is also my favorite of the three eras. So I guess I have a heavy 12 bias. The End of Time is one of my least favorite episodes in all of Doctor Who (The Waters of Mars is the only episode I like less in the entire history of the show). The only thing I like about it is Wilf. I think they fundamentally altered the character of the Doctor and RTD was writing the show from a place of selfish sadness. He was unable to say goodbye to the show and so he wrote it as if it was this big grief filled horrible moment. The Doctor went from saving Rose from death with a laugh and a smile to yelling and screaming and crying and calling Wilf stupid. What an absolute degradation of character. We went from "A tear Sarah Jane." to "I don't want to go." The latter being one of the worst moments of the Doctor ever. This writing, making the audience feel like the show was "ending" or that the character was "dead" basically sabotaged Matt Smith and Moffett. To this day there are still a large group of people who ONLY watched the Tennant era and complain about everything that wasn't Tennant. And of course, to appease this large group of toxic fans, we are getting Tennant and RTD back. Breaking the 1 rule of Doctor Who: Always move forward. (Although, even bringing back Tennant, there still may be a way to handle that in a celebration of the future and not clinging to the past as a sad gimmick for viewership) I hope the writing is more like early silly and campy RTD era, and less like "a mighty god is in our presence and we are lucky to have him" that the specials after Series 4 gave us. The Next Doctor, Doctor Mysterio, and Wardrobe are just boring and forgettable. Everything else is pretty good for a special episode (the specials, overall, tend to be worse than regular series episodes of DW)

I'm surprised by your reaction to Ryan and Graham's departure. They did build up some reasoning for Ryan to want to leave with Orphan 55 and Can You Hear Me. He wanted to help protect Earth. Graham wanting to watch his grandson grow up was a decent reason to leave too imo. But no hate, just disagree on these points.

Haven’t they always been Christmas Specials up until 2018, when they suddenly became New Years or whatever eps? Is “Festive Specials” a British term for them?

My favourites are the RTD specials mostly and some Moffat ones. Didn't like the Chibnal xmas specials tbh.

Wrong about the First Doctor. First Doctor is a jerk to almost everyone. Hes a jerk to Ian and fans are like "wow hes such a grumpy jerk" and then hes a jerk to Barbara and some people go "wow hes a sexist, misoginist huh?" Hes not. I feel the writing was so disrespectful to the original creators of the show and Im so angry and the way they treated Bill Hartnell. It makes me furious. BUT aside from that, this may be my favorite special because David Bradley is amazing in the role and Capaldi was wonderful. I cannot believe I love this episode as much as I do with how mad I am about some of the characterization of the 1st Doctor. But I do love it, nonetheless
