I`ve never understood how people can choose Mickey over Rose. They are pathetic. Both this characters are amazing. I guess those people are not smart enough.

Sesska's love for Mickey always seemed ridiculous to me. I'd get it if she grew to like his character over time. His character (SPOILERS!!) grew and got a lot better as the show went on, but to immediately latch on to him, over Rose or the Doctor has always baffled me. She never loved the ninth or tenth Doctors, but adored Mickey..... Everyone's got a different opinion I suppose.

+[MrAzmatMahmood] In _Rose_ (the Episode, just to be clear), Sesska really identified with Mickey's cautiousness, complete lack of a love for adventure, and natural instinct to run the opposite way of danger. Favourite Characters are often determined by who we identify with. For example, my favourite Companion ever is someone with the initials C.O, who isn't beloved by that many people in the fandom, but she is so very very much like me that she is the only possible option for the top spot for me.

@@MarieAnne. I disagree with Rose not being sympathetic. I found her dissatisfaction and desire for something more from her life VERY sympathetic and relatable. I found her difficulty in dealing with the loss of her dad very sympathetic and relatable too. Rose was definitely not a character without flaws though, but I think that was the point. The story of her becoming a happier and more satisfied person, at the cost of hurting those closest to her was extremely compelling to me. She never meant to hurt Mickey (or Jackie for that matter, but she's not really relevant to this discussion right now), but she grew apart from him and found something and more accurately, someone she fit better together with. To put it simply, Rose and Mickey drifted apart from one another, without even realising that was what was happening. However, that someone Rose found was a 900 year old alien, who only called himself, the Doctor. Not really someone Rose would ever have dreamed of finding and connecting with. He also lived a very dangerous and reckless lifestyle. Safety, his or hers, was not guaranteed. Mickey was one of her strongest remaining connections to her old, normal life. I don't think it would've been easy for Rose to just throw everything between her and Mickey away given the circumstances she found herself in. The situation is made even more complex, when the Doctor changes into a completely new man and people from his past (namely Sarah Jane) start turning up out of the blue! Now Rose feels even less sure of what she has with the Doctor. Both should've handled the situation better, but I think it's very realistic that two people would hold on to a relationship that was all but done because it was too painful to let go and the consequences of doing so (for Rose specifically) were quite uncertain. What I loved the most about this story is that it allowed both characters to grow. Rose and Mickey were both better and stronger people by the end of series 2.

I honestly doubt it was ever meant to be seen as a race thing. Personally it always struck me as more a "it's always the significant other" thing - in the same way that the first question the police officer asks Rose and the Doctor is if they're in a sexual relationship, clearly wondering if the Doctor potentially used that to manipulate Rose into leaving with him; again, "it's always the significant other". Whenever someone goes missing, it's those who are closest to them who are the most under suspicion until something proves them innocent: with children, it's the parents/guardians; with adults, it's relatives and significant others. The thing is, Mickey knows *exactly* what happened to Rose but he can't exactly say "I was kidnapped by plastic things, she came to save me and then she ran off with some weirdo in a blue box that's bigger on the inside and can teleport places" without sounding absolutely mad. So either he tells the truth and the police don't believe him anyway and assume he's being evasive, not taking the situation seriously or else is mentally unstable (any of which unfortunately would also shoot him up the list of suspects) or he'd have to lie at least a little, which would make him seem suspicious since he's hiding something. Hence the repeated questioning.

Imagine thinking Jackie blames Mickey on Rose's "death" because she's a racist lmao. Besides, Noel Clarke wasn't even cast when the episodes were written, nobody knew Mickey would be a different race to the Tylers.

@@illid4nstormr4ge i agree that she can struggle to be intimidating but i still really enjoy her performance. in my opinion, the biggest problem with the latest season is the writing. that being said, it is definetly not the worst writing the show has had.

He never thought he was better than Rose and he clearly loved her. Rose on the other hand had no qualms about ditching him for a man she just met and knew nothing about, while also basically telling him "Thanks for nothing" when she ran off.

The majority of viewers didn't care for Mickey at first. He didn't start to become likeable until Series 2.

Yep, this is the part where I'm out. I wouldn't have an issue if that was in any way what the character is, but it's so completely far off base it makes me wonder if they're actually watching the same show I am. I'm done, at least for now

I have to agree. Just subscribed after viewing some of the more recent reactions but it's really off the mark and quite insulting.
