The Katy and the Dalek photo shoot is a classic... I don't remember it appearing in the show tho... :D

Appreciate the use of The Master's musical "theme" as he's mentioned... Had to laugh as another review of "Terror" made a point of noting the show's sound effect with on of the reviewer's giving an impression of the theme... I might never see/hear the early Master's stories the same way again...

The brigadier at the end of one episode I think Said something along the lines of “we thought we had captured the master but it turned out to be the Spanish ambassador “ as a joke towards delgado’s usual acting roles

Every story in this season is a classic, for different reasons. My personal favourite is Terror of the Autons. The Master is at his most murderous. The Doctor and Jo's first meeting still cracks me up. It's a damn near perfect story. I only wish it had taken slightly more than a 20-second conversation to convince the Master to throw away his whole plan and help the Doctor ditch the Nestenes.

Although I prefer Tom Baker, the Pertwee era with Unit is my favorite Doctor Who period. I like the side characters, notable the Brig, Yates, Benton, and The Master (Every other Master is rubbish compared to Delgado. ). I like how Yates gets a story arc, and the Brig is always telling the Doctor off for some reason. I particularly like how the Doctor is a bit untrustworthy in earlier stories because he’s looking to escape Earth. The earthbound stories do get a bit samey, but there are quite a few real classics in there (except that dinosaur one, jeez).

The running gag of Pertwee listening to a wub-wub remix of the theme tune obnoxiously loud in his car is perfectly executed. I also quite dig the downtempo sax cover of the theme that shows up in some of these videos. The little sting with every appearance of the master here is pitch-perfect too. I've heard some good wub-wub covers before but none quite matched this one, to my memory. So if you (and by you I mean your sound guy Frank, if he even is a separate person!) do all these covers yourself that's a fantastically marvellous job. (I also specifically noticed the nice rendition of the First Contact theme tune I hadn't heard anywhere else, in the video for that one.) Whoops, I just spotted the "Retro Crowd" credit on my laptop - KZfaq on my TV was hiding it with some UI element. My music compliments must then go toward Retro Crowd, whoever or whatever that is!

@tskmaster3837 Жыл бұрын
Yes, the Master was in all the episodes but I like to think of it as he's the one traveling through time, the Master may have a gap of years between encounters and they may not even be in sequential order. Or not because classic Who was afraid to do that sort of thing... except when they did, such as the Cybermen stories or Time Monster. [do de do, dun dun dun].
@rory_pond17013 жыл бұрын
Feeling a bit sorry for any of the younger viewers who were previously unaware that Katy Manning had posed nude with a Dalek a few years after leaving the show, although given your Masterful use of the recurring gag, they must have figured it out eventually.

Well, if Doctor Who is going through a James Bond phase, then it will need an iconic Bond villain, and you can’t ask for a better one than Roger Delgado. I really need to be watching these episodes again, now that they’re all restored to color (back in the 1980s, these episodes were only available in monochrome versions and that US “movie” format, which is pretty rough for a 7-part serial.

As much as I enjoyed Roger Delgado as the Master, I think he would have made a terrific Doctor as well--in a parallel universe.

Your joking was on point in this video, like playing the footage of the doc and jo crawling along the ground to pure silence lol on a serious note though having the master in every single story did get old quickly and not that I have anything against Katy Manning but Jo was a definite step down from Liz Shaw who by today's standards was a much better companion. I was always disappointed Caroline John only got one season although if she was pregnant I guess she had to leave anyway.

"Claws of Axos" was my introduction to DW. I even got a shout-out from Katy Manning on what was then called Twitter about it. I remember it as a fun but confusing time. It was part of that start-of-the-seventies BBC experiment (pre-PBS) when they were trying to find out if there might be an American audience for the show. American TV, or at least my Washington DC UHF station (remember that?) didn't know what to do with DW, or who its audience might be... Kids? Adults? College students? Sometimes it was on in the early afternoon, sometimes it was on literally at midnight.

Thanks to sloppy archiving practices at the time, those north american broadcasts in the early 70s are the main reason we have colour versions of a fair few Jon Pertwee stories.

Enjoy it way more than Spearhead Mind of Evil - Solid and underrated and overlooked The claws of axos - Decent, iconic villians and the Axons should return Colony in Space - one of the 4 worst pre Whittaker stories The Dæmons - A masterpiece and the best Pertwee story
