Every time the Tardis materialized in a new location within the first nanosecond of landing it analyses it's surrounding, calculates a 12 dimensional data map of everything in 1000 mile radius and determines which outer shell would blend in best with the surroundings! And the it disguises itself as a police telephone box from 1963.

I feel like the companions should have more Tardis related freak outs... It's hilarious

Well, he then proceeded to get punched by Rory, slapped many times by River, and once by Jenny, and at least twice by Clara.. I think Amy's been the least violent of the lot!

You know I just realized the TARDIS doesn’t just like looking like a police box. Practically it’s helpful to the companions to look for a blue box to help them remember where the Doctor parked versus looking for whatever object the TARDIS could have disguised itself as.

It's called a chameleon circuit it got stuck as a police telephone box in 1963 because that tardis was a museum piece when the doctor was young. So it's ancient.

THAT EXPLAINS AMY OUTSIDE IN THE BEAST BELOW SERIES 5 EPISODE 2

The reason the TARDIS takes the shape of a 1963 phone box is because the Chamelon Circit is broken. The Chamelon Circit is what made it change its shape, and with that busted, it stays as the Police Box. Hope that clears up a bit of information for you guys :)

@macree01 Well in one of the eps when the TARDIS's matrix was put in a human body, the Doctor asked what to call her and she said "700 hundred years and he finally asks" or something like that so she's saying he's had the TARDIS for 700 years so correct it has been doing that for around 700 years!

There is a sketch somewhere that has Rowan Atkinson playing The Doctor. It was for a TV Special and it's years old. I can't remember what it's called, since I stumbled upon it by accident a while back.
