In the episode "Destiny of the Daleks" staring Tom Baker as the Fourth Doctor, it was set right in the middle of a war between the Movellans and the Daleks. The war was started because the Dalek Empire and the Movellans were both expanding to control the galaxy and fought to destroy each other. The war zone took place on Skaro (planet of the Daleks) the Movellans had a plan to take Skaro! At 0:20 the Doctor says "It's a war zone" - So I think it's clear they're in Skaro at this point. In Destiny of the Daleks, they have different coloured Daleks, in The Pilot, we have the Time War Daleks. The Movellan war was said to have lasted centuries, and the Time War in a linear sense, was fought throughout countless time periods. Here's where the tie in comes in. So while the Movellans/Dalek war was taking place, The Time war was to. When the Doctor and Bill land in the war zone, we hear the Daleks say "The Doctor is Detected.. Seek.. Locate.. Destroy!" which was the exact same order and same voice as the Dalek in "The Day Of The Doctor" during the Time War scene. At 0:42 Bill says "Are we still in the future?" to which the Doctor replies "No, this is the past." Now what ties this even more is that the Daleks said that the Doctor is detected in the beginning, but when the Doctor and Bill encounter their first Dalek face to face at 1:33 the Dalek doesn't recognise the Doctor, and says "Identify. Intruder. Identify." until the Doctor makes the Dalek scan his sonic device... Which means that there MUST'VE been another Doctor present during this time period and story, either the War Doctor or The Fourth Doctor, and the reason why the Daleks are different in Destiny of the Daleks is because of the Daleks transporting to help themselves during both wars taking place at the same time! We know that the Time War Daleks can do this, even the past Daleks using a Time Corridor, used in Remembrance of the Daleks and Victory of the Daleks. This explains the different Daleks, and why the Dalek didn't recognise the Twelfth Doctor, because this particular Dalek was probably just fighting in the Time War minutes prior, and then transported itself to help the other Daleks in the war against the Movellans OR the Dalek just had an altercation with the War Doctor or Fourth Doctor, and wasn't expecting a future Doctor to be present as well, hence why it asked the Twelfth Doctor to identify himself.

I love that they brought the Movellans back looking perfect but forgot that they're a bunch of emotionless robots.

Sometimes I wish they'd release extended cuts of episodes with the longer versions of scenes like this. There's so many amazing clips that were cut out, especially in Capaldi's era.

I always wonder if this was the Time War or just a random war. The reason being the line “The Doctor Is Detected”

think the explanation for the Time war Daleks being seen with the Movellans is because their war never truly ended in classic who. Well kind of. The Daleks were utterly defeated in the first Movellan war because, of the deadly virus 🦠 they had created. which almost completely destroyed the Daleks. The Daleks had to spread across the galaxy in small battalions to escape its effect, fracturing their empire. Then the Daleks had their own civil war against each other, with the Imperial and Renegades seeking to destroy one another. Both factions were assumed destroyed by the hand of Omega. However we don’t know for sure. Perhaps after the Daleks had regrown their Empire and improved their technology, developed a cure for the Movellan virus 🦠. Also choosing to reignite their war with the Movellans to remove them as a threat (pre time war) Captain Jack does state to the ninth doctor “one minute they were the biggest threat in the universe and the next they vanished” the doctor reply’s stating that they went off to fight a bigger war (the time war) This suggests that The Time war Daleks fought the rest of the universe first, before igniting the war with the Timelords. This is my explanation anyway and it might not be entirely concrete but, it also sort of makes sense. I actually love the idea of the Daleks struggling to destroy another race of creatures, equal to their own. We really need to see this more with New who Daleks. It gives them more character. Xx

This is one example I should've shown my NuWho-only Whovian family: I keep telling them that they need to watch the Classic DW series, to get additional background on these scenes. Like this one: They never say the Movellans are androids -- they're as much robotic as Daleks are.
