Documentary giving in-depth look into the Skyway Bridge tragedy to debut at Tampa Theatre

4 жыл бұрынIt was 39 years ago when the unthinkable happened in Tampa Bay: a chunk of the old Sunshine Skyway Bridge fell to the water below after it was struck by a freighter. Six cars, a truck and a bus plunged into Tampa Bay, killing 35 people.
A new documentary called "The Skyway Bridge Disaster" premiers September 14 at the Tampa Theater. It's co-produced by Steve Yerrid, the noted Tampa attorney who represented the harbor pilot who was guiding the freighter Summit Venture when it struck the bridge on the morning of May 9, 1980.

I don't live in the Tampa, Florida area, but really want to see this documentary. The state of Florida should have been held equally liable along with the ship owner for that tragedy. Why couldn't they shut that bridge down with a severe storm going through the area that morning? People would have been inconvenienced but 35 lives could've been saved.

The bridge looked pretty sturdy. It’s just they needed a barrier to stop ships just in case. Like the Verrazano bridge has many rocks by the towers just in case. This old bridge looked so cool too. Such a shame. I hear it wasn’t that old either.

My father had just made it over that bridge going to Bradenton making his connect to tropicana very blessed he was
