I couldn't get to Maes Howe because it was closed, but I highly recommend Taversoe Tuik chambered cairn on Rousay. You can see in from the outside even when it's locked up

I have been to Orkney and loved it. Spent the afternoon at Brodgar as well. It's an amazing place. The ancient sites I've managed to get to make me realize how much we've lost. Though we as modern man feel accomplished in technology, we've lost the sense of community and humility. These links to the past draw us because the future has become bleak.

Cheers for this my brother, the ancient sites of our wonderful islands makes me wonder how many sites there must of been on the main land and probably destroyed over the years. Your work is amazing and can only wish you will inspire the future lads and lassys to remember oor roots! Tapadh Leat Bràthair, Alba Gu Brath!

You did well to get to the Ring of Bookan. I was scared of the cows who ran along beside me as I walked along the road. I was glad of the fence. Also, as you say, it's private land. Heigho, another time. My favourite site is the Ring o Brodgar in the early hours, with the oyster catchers and curlew.

I have been to the Ring of Bookan a few times, not many tourists go there. Barnhouse would have been like Skara Brae in its day. Best wishes from Scotland, Martin.

Although the Ring of Brodgar originally had 60 stones, placed at approximately 3° distance from each other, only 27 remain today. The North causeway is double the width of the South one...

Hi Colleen, that is great you are revisiting Orkney. Unfortunately I was unable to do Maes Howe justice in this video because I only had a few exterior shots, photography and filming is not allowed inside. I have also visited Skara Brae and the Broch of Gurness, Martin.
