I live in a city that has been using the Charger 5.7 since its first generation. I always love hearing the sound of that Hemi when the cops step on it. The Charger 5.7 AWD Pursuit is a really fast, mean machine.

The Ford Police Explorer has a lock on the majority of police sales in the US. Ford even made the Explorer switch to a rear drive platform due to law enforcement agencies wanting better handling. This leaves the Charger as the last true police car left in the US.

Texas State Troopers also have the Challenger SRT-8 as pursuit vehicles.

I've got a 2015 5.7L hemi awd charger police pursuit and I absolutely love it, the car handles extremely well and rides ultra smooth with real smooth shifting.

They are quite common among Traffic Police in Bahrain as well as in Kuwait and just recently, Saudi Arabia. They pretty much replaced the Crown Vic's here (except for Saudia which still uses those P71/P7Bs) I happened to took a lift (long story) in one of these. I always wondered what's the main difference between the civilian and police pursuit chargers.

A number of points: 1) These are fleet-only models, engineered by SRT for FCA-Fleet, and built on separate production runs at Brampton. Current Fleet policy is any current model year Pursuit has to be titled a minimum of 6 months before sale to a non-Fleet customer. - There were 3 models from 2015 - 2019: Charger Pursuit V6, V8, and AWD. In 2020, there was no RWD V8 model. Production of the 2020 models ran about 2 months, to Nov 1, 2019. At the same time, the Tahoe went in hiatus, and the new 2020 Exploder was delayed because of serious engineering and production flaws. This left the Durango as the only domestic Pursuit-Rated model until Covid-19 restrictions placed it on hiatus, as well. - All models had the BR9 brake package, which was not available on any retail model (although Mopar does sell a BR9 kit as an upgrade). The Kokomo-built A580 5-spd auto was actually discontinued in August of 2018, and inventory was used up through the brief 2020 models. - The 5.7 police V8 (only) received running changes to the valvetrain in 2016, 2018, and 2019 - the latter of which solved the problem of lifter tick. Further adjustments to fuel trim and spark timing resulted in tested horsepower lowered to 363 hp from 2016-2018, lowered again to 360 hp for 2019-2020. This was primarily to reduce chances of preignition, and to increase durability. The new, Severe Duty lifters are now retroactive replacements for all V8 Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep models from 2005 - 2018. - 2021 models reverses what was offered for 2020, with an AWD V6 model (850RE trans) and RWD V8 model (870RE trans) replacing the RWD V6 and AWD V8 5-spd models. It is not (yet )set in stone that there will not be an AWD V8 model. However, the lower purchase price and operating costs of the V6 model will make it very attractive to agencies looking to replace the crappy Exploder. - Police vehicles, almost without exception, are sold on a sealed-bid basis. The sticker price is not relevant. An agency determines which model(s) and/or specs they need, and make a solicitation for bids from qualified vendors. As such, and with very generous programs from the OEMs, these vehicles are purchased at very low cost to the taxpayers. As an example, for 2020, here are some approximate average bid award prices: Charger V6 - $22,000 Charger AWD -$24,500 Durango V6 - $26,500 Durango V8 - $29,000 Exploder 3.3 - $32,000 Exploder Ecoboom $35,000 Tahoe 4×4 $34,500

I just bought a 19 Charger AWD 5.7 Pursuit. Former OHP car, Silver\black with 75K. Car is near mint condition for 23K out the door. Could have bought the Black V6 Chally sitting next to it for same price but Charger HEMI was the winner. LOVE THIS THING! Feels as good as my 14 Hemi Chally on the street. Has a very tight ride!

Damn those 60-0 stopping distances are insane, but especially for police vehicles. It blows me away how much better the brembos work, and stop my Challenger in around 110' as opposed to almost 150 on some of those on that list lol

I think it's interesting that FCA has refused to upgrade the brakes on these cars, considering they already have all the hardware in stock and in use on civilian HP Chargers and Challengers. It's the #1 complaint I hear across the board from the police depts that use Chargers.

Very interesting, I had no idea that even the V6 and RWD versions still had the 5 speed. Those stats also make it obvious why 99% of the LE vehicles I see are Explorers, including the Washington State Patrol. Don't know where you got that info but I've only seen one WSP Charger and it was a grey unmarked unit. The VAST majority of WSP vehicles are Explorers including most unmarked units.

The only problem with the hemis are the cam issues. Its almost a 100% guarantee that those cars will develop the tick unless dodge fixed that issue

Vancouver PD, Port Moody PD, Saanich PD, and Victoria PD use Chargers here in British Columbia. The RCMP in Canada. Canada's federal police force for some reason don't use Chargers even though it's built-in Canada.

I'm on my second P71, and I like it. Pretty basic, old school and simple. However... I find these Chargers increasingly creeping in to my thoughts like Krusty's Klown School ad did with Homer. Specifically.. an all black AWD hemi with dark tint, police steelies, and a pushbar. I'm even starting to love the sound of the chargers. The worst part is; I really like the vic, and I'd hate to part with it... so the problem is where to store it. (I'd have four cars by the point.)

No, I'm not dissing our host for the "6.3L PentaStar". But did you know that FCA only sells the Civilian AWD Charger with the PentaStar V6, while the Pursuit AWD comes in both the 5.7L Hemi and the Armored Custom w/the K-6.2L HellCat? IOW, we get AWD only in V6, while Police get it only with V8's . Hmmmmmm....

5.7 hemi Chargers are terrible about chewing up camshafts. Esp if the vehicle idols a lot. It's a known problem with the hemis!
