It's now time to get that #7 injector up and out of the engine and see what kind of fuel corrections it makes in the long term with the new fuel injector in place. Will it be the fix? Was it the correct approach? Time will tell... -Enjoy!

Hi Eric, thanks forr your time and dedication. A snap throttle/rapid decel while scoping secondary may well detect the overfueling injector. The snap on lineal cop adapter allows for a parade pattern on this enginne easily. Maybe you could check the #5 injector that way if the car was to come back. Friendly greetings.

Thank you man. I've been chasing a P0300 with similar symptoms for awhile now. I suspected an injector issue, but I never expected a bad injector to cause an entire bank to misfire. When I first got the truck, it had a p0305 and p0300 as well as a code for fuel level among other things. After replacing the fuel pump and plugs (both needed) and fixing the vacuum leaks, head gasket and replacing a leaking radiator this p0300 was all that was left haunting me. Truck would occasionally run beautifully getting 19 mpg on the freeway, but then it would start missing and drop down to 11 or so. I tested the coils more times and ways than I care to admit because intermittent usually means electronics. I used a stethoscope and screwdriver to listen to the injectors, and they were all ticking every time I checked (truck didn't idle that rough honestly). Sure enough, cylinder 5 injector was swollen down where you can't see it from the top. My guess is, some of the coolant from the leaking head gasket had caused the injector failure. Have a full set of injectors coming for mine though. On a side note, anyone interested in buying an 02 Ram 1500 4.7 SLT? :P

Hi Eric. Finally can give you a tip. On removing and installing those fuel injectors use carb cleaner instead of fluid film. They VERY easily pop out and install then without even loosing the o ring off the injector. You can thank me later as I wish to thank you now for all your quality, top notch video's! Love the drive cycle portion. I deal with emissions too. I'm quite certain on the Dodge products that the o2 heater sets after you drive it, with most accessories on possible especially if there is a rear window defrost, then the next morning it will complete. Great job. And one more thing indiana will let you pass if the evap monitor is incomplete without any codes.

Being as thorough as you are, I'm surprised you did not do that injector pulse test on Bank 2 for comparison. Maybe they were dropping less fuel pressure then Bank 1. And on top of that, who can really trust the "NEW" upstream Ox sensor as you mentioned this truck had one. Like they say, if you can do it, I can watch. Me thinks you nailed it Eric.

Read an article on Repair Pal website stating that surging or bucking during acceleration can be attributed to a distributor that is moved or mis-indexed. This is a result of the cam and crank position sensors being out of synchronization. Wear of the oil pump drive gear may also cause similar symptoms because it allows excessive free play in the distributor drive. The distributor drive gear and bushing should be replaced if the rotor tip moves back-and-forth more than 3/16th of an inch when checking drive gear free play.

Eric, wanted to relate a rich running case I saw on a GDI engine where the high pressure mechanical pump was driven off the camshaft. So bad the engine fuel management was maxed out trying to correct a rich condition and so bad you could smell raw fuel at the oil cap and also oil level overfull. Well long story short, the hi pressure fuel pump backside shaft was leaking raw fuel right into the engine. Somehow these fuel pumps should have a design where that leaking fuel is detected and also routed back internally to the fuel tank instead of into the engine.

I recently pulled my 4.7l because the rear tabs on the transmission case were cracked. Thinking it was caused by worn engine mounts, I lifted the engine about 6” to replace the mounts and rusty oil pan. When pulling the wiring harness, a majority of the bank 1 injectors leaked at the rail. So I pulled the fuel rail to replace the o-rings. All of my bank 2 injectors had cracks in the plastic body. The engine ran fine. Since I noticed the fan clutch was leaking and one of the coils was corroded inside I stopped at a pull your parts to get a coil and clutch. I planned to pocket some injectors while I was at it. I pulled the injectors from three 4.7l engines and they were all cracked. I took the “best” four to keep as spares, but they turned out to be a different part number than my originals anyway. The plastic at the bottom was red as well instead of the white on mine. Anyway, I’m still running the originals with no issue. You got luckier than I on the rail bolts. I snapped the passenger rear one off and it’s a M10 instead of an M6 now. This all was a result of looking into why my referees lights weren’t working and checking the switch on the nv3500 trans. Of course I did the hanger bearing and u-joints while I was at it.

I'd bet at some time during cold weather, water in the fuel ended up in that injector, froze, swelled and cracked it. I've seen throttle body injectors blow out big time that way. More stuff they never see in the south! Also, it's possible that cylinder is a little washed out and not sealing properly. I guess I would have made sure the oil was good too, especially if it sees a lot of short trips in the winter.

Eric, how it goes! I am hoping you can help me as i am in a real jam...my 98" Durango 5.9 just today blew the 50 amp ignition / starter fuse in the PDC. Didn't know until returning home ...while driving (abs light, airbag light illuminated, and the windows are stuck down, and the heater/ac controls do not work ) found it replaced it and it blew again! I have had weird instances only when the engine was warm after driving and then re-starting (i.e stopping at the store ) when turning the key to start it would crank , hesitate, (like lose power for a split second) and then start...and or it would start super quick like with no crank, just vroom and start! research is showing me a short somewhere, but could the starter and or the Solenoid just be bad? Any insight at all would be greatly appreciated, the truck is stuck at the bottom of driveway with windows down (luckily no rain for a day or so hopefully) but I need to figure this out and quick! I did do the heater core last year and had the dash down but not out all the way (steering column was dropped) out! Is it possible I damaged a wire up there on the column harness? The truck is about 70% restored as I have put 14 G into it the last 5 years, so it is in pretty good shape overall! I have a used new motor in it w 105K from a rusted out dakota, but the engine didn't have much if any rust! This was 4 years ago as well and have not had any issues other than that random starting thing! The truck has 325K so assuming the starter is the original could it going bad be the issue?! Thanks in advance brother!! Dennis

I have a 1995 Dakota 3.9 Magnum engine that is brand new. I installed it last fall it has about 10.000 miles now. When the engine was put in every sensor and injectors plugs wires belts everything under the hood is new. I was having a serious problem after the engine warmed up sputtering and shaking while under power. No check engine light was on. To make long story short the crank position sensor was bad even though it was new. I changed it on advise of a friend and now my truck runs as it should. I hope this helps Dodge Dakota people.

I have a 2008 Dodge Dakota with the 4.7L HO. It had a miss fire in cylinder 3. I took it to the Dodge dealership twice. All they could tell me is to change out the plugs and coil packs. They wanted almost a Thousand dollars to do it. I bought after market plugs and coil packs. Injectors, oxygen sensors, exhaust manifold, catalytic converters, fuel pump. I still had a misfire. Then I took it to this one mechanic. He was able to get factory OEM plugs and coil packs with labor for half the price. It fixed the problem. Spend the money and get Factory OEM plugs and coil packs. It will fix the problem. These car manufacturers have gotten cunning in there business. Now you have to get parts from them or it won't run right.

modern direct injection diesel Injectors are FAR worse... you need special tools to remove them and to clean the holes / Chanels .. I never heard of somebody having to pull a head because of a stuck Plastic injector... also they usually last forever, I personally never had to replace one and I feel you can use them for the life of several vehicles.. these ones here are just bad quality or get too hot for some reason. with modern diesel Injectors pulling the head is worst case . normally BMW engines are bad for the injectors getting stuck . but as for removing them with out special tools you can soak the injector in the engine with something like cider vinegar over night. Then run the engine till its warm and put your puller on . or even use a brass punch to tap the injector side to side then remove them . this is just my experience of removing them .

I believe there was a tsb released on those fuel rail bolts It’s states you 1. cold soak the engine overnight. 2. Then spray with wd 40. Let sit over night. 3. Come in, turn 1/4 and spray with wd 40. Let sit overnight Repeat step 3 at 1/4 turn intervals until bolts come out.

I wonder what is causing those injectors to split their casings. I have the same vehicle (just bought it) and it's running so rich that it won't even idle right. over -30 on short terms. Every one of my injectors has a crack right down it with rusty color behind it. New full set of injectors is in the mail of course. Pulled my fairly new plugs and every plug is thick black except 2 and 7 which are white. Anyways, hopefully a new set of injectors makes her purr again. But question still remains, how do these things split their cases, and what does that do internally to the injector? Aside from visually indicating how old and worn it is, I thought the plastic was just an external (cosmetic) sheath?

I see you using that classic reach around trying to get that #7 injector into the hole. Have you ever just tried talking dirty to the vehicle to see if that will work:)

That pulse test you did with injectors...seems like the computer could have done it on its own. Maybe in more modern vehicles?

Fixed! SWEEEEEEET! That'll at least get him through the winter. After this year's salt bath, off to the crusher she'll go, I'd imagine. Shortest comment ever for me today - I've got a couple generators, and a snowblower to repair this morning. Everyone's in panic mode with that storm rolling up the coast here. Wife had to fight mobs at the grocery store - all the milk and bread was gone! LOLOL They were also out of my Arizona sweet tea, so I'm not starting this day off very well ... I'm kinda mad! Grrrrr !! :D

Yeah man, I was a butcher in a supermarket for 17 years, and it never ceased to amaze me how much crap people will buy before a storm. It's not like it's 1860 and you might die of lack of provisions.

And the weirdest thing to me was how much meat people bought. If you were planning for the worst case scenario, power out for days, no clear roads and all that, why on earth would you be loading up on steaks and pork chops? And the people got mad at you and asked why you're out of everything as if they didn't notice the swarms of people all around them
