Agreed. It needs to be reworked, though, as reading the story, which is not meant to make laugh, is kind of counterproductive to the act. A line in your own words summing it up, would definitely sit better with the audience. And if you do it in journalese, then add the punchline as McDonald did, it may kill. It's a good idea, tho. Flesh it out, brother.

The police, social workers and local governments didn't do anything about it for fear of being called "racist". Truth is necessary for humor. Really good comedy often occurs when someone tells us a surprising truth which seems obvious in hindsight. That's why so much 'mainstream' comedy today comes off as disingenuous, because we can sense that it's purpose is not to reveal truth to us but to propagandize to us. When we are given insight into why we think the way we do, we find the experience gratifying. When we are told what to think, we feel lied to. I think that's also why detective stories are so prevalent, because they give us a dogged battle to reveal an intricately concealed truth. Nicholas is fearless in telling us the truth.

I can certainly understand your reservations for visiting my home country, though I will say that there's certainly plenty of places worth seeing, though seeing as how it's not a priority for you I would say that a few days to a week whilst on a larger tour of Europe would certainly be worth your time for more reason than witnessing our very astute and funny fellow here. Even though it's never been on my top five list, if I was going to make a trip I'd definitely want to take my time to appreciate the architecture, landscapes, and cultures throughout England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. As for interests: I very much enjoy history, hiking, art, small towns (especially coastal ones), festivals, and visiting old churches. And castles I'd imagine as well, although I've yet to actually see one in real life, haha.
