This session is unusual in that the viewer watches one session played out but hears two sessions.
The Dark Time is sending its signals to a new patch on the System 1.
For each session the Dark Time was set to play both 1-8 and 9-16 steps in parallel, effectively doubling the midi clock sent from the MX1 from 55 to 110bpm.
The two sessions were recorded independently then synced together.
As the session you see is audibly less dominant than the other, it makes it difficult, but not impossible, to link what you are watching with what you can hear!

I'm no musician but there is something special about the Dark Time. Captivating.

There is indeed. Very much a hands-on piece of hardware, built like a brick and will talk to most synths in its unique way. Thx for listening.

Cheers thedonal. Yep, the DT's looks alone are quite hypnotising. Thx for stopping by and for the sub👍

I liked the sequence as it progressed. A good listen and very interesting.

Thanks Richard. Using odd-numbered sequences is giving me that infinitely variable rhythm that I'll probably use as backing for a future track.

I've got a Dark Time, and a Dark Energy, and a Dotcom and a Music Easel.......but this piece played here is possibly my favourite piece of electronic Music! I haven't touched my gear in a while now - i need to get back to it i think!

That's kind of you to say, davegreg. Makes it all the more worthwhile when you receive such a compliment. Your combo sounds really interesting and like you, I've had a break from the synths but will be returning to them soon.

Hi Resonant. Yes, mixing odd and even sequences can send the mind into a trance with their random regularity.

Love the polyrhythms! Reminds me of weird things I used to try to do many years ago with tape loops - but this is so much more interactive (and in time!)

With the correct reverb and delay, I reckon one can replicate the complex sequencing with just one recording.

It is a very satisfying piece of kit and has so far worked well with everything it sends it's signals to. Worth its weight in gold.

I keep promising myself just that, then get sidetracked with all the other gear, meaning that solos are a rarity but always possible.

How do you like/compare dark time compared to the Ma6 16/3 💊 you💊
@spacedrifter1961
@spacedrifter1961 2 жыл бұрын
I've always admired the MAQ 16/3, but unfortunately from a distance, being rare on the secondhand market. The DT is compact and offers more in the way of switches, buttons and pots. It doesn't need to rely on a screen, which is a plus point for me. The pots could be spaced a little further apart for my liking. The MAQ is simpler to view and possibly interact with, and it does use a screen display. The option of 3 8-step sequences running at the same time is a huge plus point.

I am trying to send a Dark Time from the U.S. to Mexico but the shipping company says the wood is forbidden to be imported. Do you know if it is possible to remove the wood?
@spacedrifter1961
@spacedrifter1961 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can. Although I haven't needed to do it myself, I would suggest removing the 4 cross-headed screws on the underside, which in turn should allow you access to the inside where there will be a further screw or two holding each of the wood ends in place. A very short screwdriver will likely be needed. And cheers for the sub, Raumual!
