That's great! Nothing beats a real analogue synth....This sequencing reminds me of Equinoxe - I like it! Love the Dark Monsters too (just like Tiefengrund says!)

I used a Quadraverb, but any delay will do. It usually helps to stick a high pass filter round about 150Hz to stop it being muddy, especially if you're feeding it anything bassy.

@tompaulsen2002 - sorry I only just noticed your question. The fisheye is just one of those cheapo plastic Opteka adaptors which you can get on Amazon, attached to a Canon 550d with the standard 18-55mm lens. They're a bit soft, not exactly top image quality, but proper fisheye lenses are super expensive. The lights are Ikea Dioder LEDs.

Thanks mate. Sorry I can't for the life of me remember what the 251 was doing, but from the vid it looks like I was just using one of the attenuators, possibly to trim the gate voltage feeding to the Voyager, dunno! I use it for all kinds of stuff though, it's a really cool utility box for hooking up CV stuff. The mixer is good for combining modulation sources, lag processor is good for glide (for synths that don't have it). All kinds of uses.

@aethersea - to be honest I can't remember specifically what I did here. I think the top row of 8 is driving the Moog using CV/gate, and the bottom 8 is for the Dark Energy (there are separate CV/gate outputs for each row on the Dark Time.). I don't think the CP 251 is doing much, though IIRC I had to adjust the voltage of the gate signal for the Moog using one of the CP251's attenuators.

Thanks! I couldn't tell you exactly what the notes were but it's all basic minor scale stuff. Make sure the downbeat is a low root note, use mostly pentatonic notes with an occasional minor 6th for flavour. If you hold off introducing the flat 6 for a while it has a big impact when it comes in. In Cm the notes would be (not in this order) C Eb F G Ab Bb C. Also very important in this style is a delay with several repeats, usually dotted 8th notes or dotted 16s. (3 16th notes or 3 32nd notes).

@Dovinia Ha ha! Thanks, very kind of you. Most people get bored quickly these days! I have another one that is over 12 minutes long, but it's a little more complicated because it has more than one camera and needs editing. I'll try and get it done soon when I can find the time.

@mynmyself The Doepfer is 0-5v also and the same standard V/Octave scaling, so no problem. You just need to get some mono minijack to 1/4" jack adaptors. Patch the Dark Time's CV and gate outputs to the Pitch and Gate inputs on the Moog. Get decent cables, not like my cheap crappy ones! I've realised all my tuning issues have been down to poor cables.

Hmmm... just checked and the trigger signal works fine without any gain/attenuation, so I'm wondering if in fact I was using the CP251 to tune the Moog's pitch response. Generally speaking I'd say if you want to interface a Voyager with other analogue gear then you really are going to want the VX-351 and CP-251 at some point. There's still plenty you can do without them though, and with the Dark Time you can always use MIDI for the notes and just use CV for other control signals (filters etc).

Hello synth brother. This was fucking great. I have heard a lot of sequensing for the last 40 years,but this was realy good. I have a Dark Time i use it with a Roland GAIA but this was better.

pretty nice sounds! i have a moog phatty and im planning on getting a dark time, but i have read about voltage issues as the doepfer is 12volts and the moog 5... how did u attached the moog to the doepfer? analog is warmer!

Tom 242 Ha ha! Thanks, most people tend to prefer shorter pieces on KZfaq, plus it's hard to sustain interest in longer tunes without multitracking. One day I will get round to making a long form Berlin School album, but it's very time consuming.

There are no rules! Do whatever sounds good to you, but in general I prefer dotted 8th or 16th notes because they usually make a more interesting groove. In this video the DE and Voyager share the same delay.

That´s what I wanted to read, thanks again Matt, delays a have now I just can set them by rate ( by ear ) and I was always wonderering how could I get that tangerinesque feeling, that groove. ;) And yes, of course if something is sounding good to you then it´s good , but allways is good as well learning from people has a good sound allready and got the idea of how Berlin sequences works well. Again thank you !

Ok. I'm a n00b so don't flame me too bad... does the Dark Time drive both devices? Does each row on the DT drive each device?

Matthew Jones sorry for not replying sooner. I would never flame anyone for being a noob, everyone starts somewhere! Yeah the DT is being used in 2x(1-8) mode i.e. 2 independent rows of 8 steps each. It has 2 other modes: 1-16 (both rows combined into 16 steps), and Combi where the upper row does pitch and the lower row does gate length. If you're thinking of getting one I'd advise that, unless you're particularly into the old-school analogue aesthetic of the DT, you strongly consider the new Arturia Beatstep Pro instead. Haven't tried it myself yet but it looks like a much more versatile piece of kit.

Matt Hill Thanks for the reply. I watched a few demos of the Arturia Beatstep Pro and it looks good but I'm not sure how it measures up sequencer-wise from the DT. It seems most demos focus more on the pads section of it. I already have a Korg PadControll so the addition of the pads isn't a big deal but I could understand why someone would find it appealing. I've also considered a Doepfer MAQ3/16 as my real interest in the sequencer will eventually be ratcheting. I'm very fond of Berlin School type sequencing and it just seems that the older style sequencers are a bit more intuitive than some of the newer sequencer models. Again, I'm a n00b so I'm just taking guesses from what I've seen in demos.

Actually I think old school analogue sequencers are far from intuitive but that's part of the appeal. The limitations and arcane workarounds can be inspiring. Tangerine Dream's music went rapidly downhill once they got polyphonic synths and sequencers that let them do anything they wanted! The MAQ3 might be more up your street as the DT is very limited and they still haven't fixed the reset trigger. The Analogue Solutions Oberkorn is worth considering too, along with the new Koma Komplex, but it starts getting expensive. If you have a Mac and don't mind using a computer in your setup then Five 12 Numerology combined with a Novation Launchpad is the mother of all modular step sequencers as far as I'm concerned.

The image is so good, the sound so analogic BUT the music and the experimental work on the music so...boring. First of all THE MUSIC EXPERIENCE not the equipment. It is just my point of view.
