A corked bat is made to be swung faster. Not increase the trampoline effect. A faster swing bat can generate more power hitting a ball, especially off a mlb pitcher throwing 90mph+.

You get actual corks from bottles and stuff them into the barrel. The density and volume will increase due to the hardness and compact size.

You don't cork a bat to reduce weight. The cork acts as a spring and the ball goes farther. You actually want a heavier bat if your strong enough to swing it because theres more mass hitting the ball

@@JDJD-mw9rr no it doesn't add spring. It is to lighten the bat. The spring is from the ball deforming. The bat deforms very little. The cork would make no difference. A lighter bat can be swung faster, thus the cork to lighten it.

Dude when u Increase the bat speed it goes farther bc. K2+vp=5 K2+vp/2 + dpv=9. 9+5=14 and 5 is ur main power but 9 is how much u have in ur body then 9+5=14 and 14 is almost double ur power and bat speed which = farther hit

Mighty Goat , if you want a more accurate reading on the exit velo, have the fun behind the fence and have the tee closer, try and hit it right back at the tee. the reason for this is standing behind or even to the side the ball is going away so you don’t get its peak speed. Just give it a try, let me know how it works.

You might be right about using solid cork, but you are definitely wrong about the fact that it doesn't matter he didn't drill deeper. Makes no sense to reduce the weight at the very end of the barrel and nowhere else. If anything, it would give the opposite results. Also, the point of the solid cork is not to increase "pop" but to give some kind of support to the hollowed out area so it can withstand being used to hit.

Jmoon 87 Bet, Look it up kiddo. Corking a hat is only for wooden bats to hollow it out and replace the middle with cork to make it lighter. Therefore, a lighter bat, a faster swing, a harder hit.

Christian Place and WeirdRandomStuff, you can cork metal bats (especially composite bats) by "getting them hot" and bending them. I have a corked bat that I use for goofing off during BP. The bat bends more in the middle then normal bats would resulting in the barrel literally springing forward and launching the ball kind of like a catapult.

Okay so, physics lesson: assuming every other property of the bat is the same, the more rigid the bat, the father it's going to hit the ball, because it being "springy", as you say, it absorbs more of the impact on the ball, which slows it down. Imagine throwing a ball against a brick wall versus a mattress, which one do you think the ball is going to bounce off better? It's the exact same principle. Uncorked bat is better, you're just hitting the ball more times with the corked one to get the results you want. Even then, the speed test you did shows that on average the uncorked one hits it faster.

A properly corked bat is significantly lighter and can be swung so much faster, which is the whole point. Not to hit the ball further, altho many Pro's did see gains in how far they were hitting the ball because of the bat speed.

Corked bats are just lighter making your swing faster it doesn't affect the bats performance.

@@patrickcurran6054 He's not totally wrong. I've seen a handful of articles that basically disprove the "Springy effect" of cork. It's about the loss of mass, and density that allows you to swing faster.

Put the gun on the other side of the fence so you are shooting directly at the moving object, BUT, you could also be getting a reading off the bat since you are so close.

When I played baseball at like 14 to 16 years old we used an aluminim easton bat with tennis balls stuffed into it..The ball pretty much bounced off the bat..you could feel the energy transfer when you hit a good one..
