In this week's Gear or Gadget, we are bringing our experiences with different products to the table to do a hybrid style product review. We are calling this segment "Gear or Gadget."
We will be determining whether we think this piece of hunting equipment is gear, and we would buy it again or is it a gadget and money can be better spent somewhere else.
There are a couple of ground rules:
#1 We are not here to brand bash anyone. We are simply here to give honest reviews on products we have used.
#2 NO USEAGE OF THE TERM "GAME CHANGER". The game has not changed, and will not change from a single product.
In this episode, we talk about the biggest gimmick in the hunting industry. Arrow Straightness is just another marketing "Buzzword" that arrow companies use to make you think you are getting a superior arrow, when in reality they all come from the same batch and are just sorted by straightness. Jake talks about the new kid on the block in the hunting industry, and that is eBikes. Cameron brings to the table a cheap product that can add years to your hunting boots and help protect them. Be sure to tune in for this one!

There's so much to arrows to where it's actually like going down a rabbit hole. If you're someone like me who has yet to put an arrow through a deer, do not sweat on the whole concept of arrows. First and foremost you need to find and be within shooting range of a deer which could require more time and energy than ensuring your arrows are flying like laser beams. We all need to prioritize and execute the right steps to fill a tag. Use your gut instinct on selecting your arrow and broadhead set up.

If you’re dealing with broadheads, yes straighter is better. If you’re screwing in a field point, you’ll never notice the difference between .001 vs .003 vs .006 unless you’re a robot.

I have to really disagree arrow straightness is very important to get your broadheads to spin straight if you shoot a solid fixed blade that's not spinning straight it will be all over the place also I've always been told arrows are measured at 28inchs when it comes to straightness

To say that straightness doesn’t matter period is a little overplayed. It might not be as important as people want you to believe, and think it becomes a little more important for people buying fletched shafts to be cut down from one end. I’d like to hear the theories chad has to say arrow straightness doesn’t matter but broadhead blade orientation does.

Obenaufs leather oil and Obenaufs leather cleaning products work amazing. Get a good horsehair brush to go along with your cleaning kit. You have to reapply oils to your leather to keep it from cracking.

Set the tires up tubeless and run sealant. Plenty of resources on the web. Learn to adjust derailleurs. It's easy, but you spend enough time learning about your archery setups, so learn the bike if you're going to rely on it.

Thanks for educating me on this. I just started fletching. I have the bitzenberg and I was going to buy a arrow spinner but I’m like well I want to shoot all 12 of my arrows lol. So I just numbered them and took the one I thought shot better and put them aside for hunting. But honestly they all shot pretty good,. Just Easton axis 340. 25 grain outsert with a 100 grain tip. I’m not doing the heavy arrow thing. That’s just to much. I can kill a deer with a rage and a hit insert.

I buy .003's, and cut the wobble ends off. I don't care if my stickers don't line up. Spine consistency from arrow to arrow in a set is more important than "straightness". Lastly, nobody lies more in their marketing than carbon express.

When I first started Archery a year ago I left by bow sighted in doesn't matter what the wind or rain does or my arrow isn't straight you just adapt your shooting style to what life throws at you. Moved onto traditional Timber creek cottonmouth 2 hybrid bow is my new bow.

There are two items I would like to turn you guys on to that I have used extensively. "Stans No Tubes" for all your flat tires on your bikes. "Neatsfoot Oil by Fiebings" is the best for you leather boots durability...DONT use the boot creams! Use the saddle soap to wash boots if you want them clean. Thank you for great content.

If you use an E-Bike in Ohio, the ODNR would probably give you a ticket for "road hunting". 😂 Great video!

In my experimenting, I shoot a .246 dia. and .005 straightness arrow and have not noticed the difference to the .001 arrows. The biggest gain I did get was from adding weight (foc) and arrow weight to just over 500 gr. and my grouping improved out to my effective whitetail range.

Hmmm, watched a couple of these videos and am curious if you’re gonna do anything beyond make assertions. Also, you might want to learn how to properly fire your thumb release which might help your arrow flight. FYI, a porterhouse and a cubed steak from the same cow should cost the same according to your, ummm, well I can’t exactly call it logic, but…..

Y’know I kinda figured. 3k to 1k of an inch just seems so marginal of a thing for something that is violently slung down range. Thanks for saving me money haha.

My biggest issues with ebikes is always going to be access. Ebikes force you to become predictable in many circumstances. Walking allows you to take better access points where a bike isn’t going to go. The only real reason I see to have one is to access deep into a large property where you’ll leave it and finish your access on foot.

You have to shoot every single one of your arrows to see which ones fly straight. pick the best ones and roll with it

Could have saved you a lot of time. If you can't adjust your arrow rest to the .005", how can you know that it's your arrows? Wait for a gearbox E-bike. Gearboxes are on the way. For that application, gearbox is the way to go. They have to fight for space with the motor at the bottom bracket. Your chain is based on derailleur tension. You might need a clutch derailleur if you bought a cheap spec that doesn't have one.

An E-bike might have its purpose along farm fields, but it wouldn't make it 100 yards into my deer woods.

Great video. The declaration regarding arrow straightness wasn't well-supported - meaning that it wasn't substantially upheld by evidence or facts. Contact the DIY Sportsman channel and have him put together a research effort - then make your declarations. One guy experimenting with arrows and FOC is not decisive or convincing.

Man all this arrow talk with people caring about FOC and what not kills me. I grab a half dozen arrows, sight my bow in for those arrows, and go kill several deer every year. Not once ever cared about total grains or FOC or any of that stuff. Another good episode though!

So you've never had an arrow bounce off of a shoulder or something because you've made a bad shot? And you're saying that you just pick up 6 arrows and they all fly the exact same? If that's the case then you're the luckiest man on earth

@@mikeguy9668 Not even close to what i am saying. Ill buy a half dozen arrows and it doesnt matter to me one bit what the total weight is or anything like that. And no, Ive never had an arrow bounce off a front shoulder because im not trying to put it that close to the shoulder.
