ScoopMeisterGeneral usually when people hate marmite it's because they don't know how to eat it. They tend to spread way too much on when you actually need less than a quarter of a teaspoon of it for each slice of bread

@Hallamfoebell the earliest methods of BBQ is actually Caribbean and with expansions of exploration, it melded into other cultures like the French, English, and Portuguese. Ice cream, yeah - but the waffle cone was created at the St. Louis World's Fair. Although edible ice cream bowls and such had existed prior, what we know as the waffle cone was invented - offhandedly - at the fair.

I stayed with a British couple (Hello Doris and Martin!) while on a study abroad program. They fed me Marmite on bread with big hunks of butter. I didn't like it. BUT, some weeks later... I found I had a maddening urge to have MORE! Nothing tastes like Marmite, and there is only one food that will do the job.

I think any food in any country can be good ... you just have to know how to cook it right . I also believe that people should not judge before tasting. I have been in Scotland now for 3 months, and I have not yet been dissatisfied with the food, and I fell in love with haggis, a dish I thought would be repulsive, but is a delight. Two of my friends who came to visit me two weeks ago were astonished as well by the haggis, and are already missing it :)

Well, in spray-on-cheese's defense, it tastes like cheese just like the powdered cheese in a box of mac n cheese tastes like cheese, or like Kraft's jello-textured cheese slices. It's just the mode of cheese that completely strips the dignity. Whereas Marmite was accurately described in the clip.

@olddeuteronomy And dinner. And come to think of it, lunch. And drinks. But I agree with ya, can't beat the full English breakfast. I lived on just breakfasts when I stayed in London for 4 days, came with the hotel room. I'd get up at 6:30, have breakfast, and if I felt like it, another at 9:30. Then I'd spend all day walking about. It really fills you up and makes your day so much better.

@massiveattack786 Trust me, the Balti is British. You cannot get it outside of the UK, and it's believed to have originated in Birmingham in the 1980s. What's wonderful about food in Britain is that we've adopted so much world cuisine in to the national taste. A friend of mine is living in Portugal at the moment, in a town bigger than the one he comes from in the UK, but he cannot get anything apart from Portugese food, which is REALLY bland. But anyway, meat pie is nice :-)

Before looking it up I always assumed (for some reason, I really don't know why) that Marmite was some form of Peanut Brittle. Apparently it's a yeast extract. Does it taste like bread or something? Spray on cheese isn't that bad. It really depends on the brand.

@MCAMVP - You are not alone & advertising slogan for Marmite (UK) is "love it or hate it" and the website asks you to enter as "I'm a hater" or "I'm a lover." So they actually market it on the fact people love or hate it. Yes I tried Vegamite as a kid, it was popular in the UK for a bit because of the song "Down Under" by Men at Work. Lyric; I said, "Do you speak-a my language?" He just smiled and gave me a vegemite sandwich. More or less the same thing but I did not like it - go figure.
