This video is a blind test to see if cheap amazon acoustic foam will help with sound treatment of your room. This is not a perfect test but it does give you an ideal of what to expect if you buy foam from amazon. I am happy with my results until I am able to buy better quality acoustic foam but wether or not it will work for you is to your discretion.

I recently did this with the super cheap, Amazon 1" foam. I paid just $77 for 96 panels. I went to Lowe's and bought a few panels of 3/4 foam insulation. Comes in 8' by 4' for $16. Thats enough to put 32 foam panels on it and not see the foam back board. Made an absolutely massive difference. Comparable to hanging $150 sound panels. And using adhesive to attach them to the foam insulation board made it way way easier to hang with command strips. I have 2 huge 8x4 panels now, and 4 smaller 2x1 panels and the difference is night and day. For a total of about $130.

Ive been runnning a studio for over a decade now and have acoustically treated 3 different rooms over the last 12 years. Foam works fine but there are a few things to know. 1) use a mix of different sized foams throughout the rooms. Use 3” foam or higher on your first reflection points. Ive always used 4” panels (not foam) on my first reflections but im sure foam will work almost as good. Also be sure not to use to much foam its very easy to kill your highend in your room, unless its a recording booth you dont want the room to be completely dead you just want to stop the echo and reverb from bouncing around in the room. I always found a mic between half panels, i made cheap basstraps from roxul safe n sound at lowes which cost me like $100 each but their 8ft tall and 12” thick in all 4 corners. Panels on first reflections and the rest of the room foam to kill any echo or reverb tails and your good to go!! Also trying to stick foam to your walls is the biggest pain in the rear ever and I honestly think thats why most people say foam sucks lol not cause it doesnt work at all its just that its not very thick and dense and not only does it damage your wall that spray or glue always tends to evaporate after a few months and your panels start falling overtime, which just makes panels easier and cheaper and more effective in the long run.
@THEKINGOCAESAR

I just got a steal on the The Scarlett 18i20, I got decent mics but will need to upgrade rack toms,, floor toms, , and get 2 to 3 more for hihat, stack, and sub kick. But currently my problem is the room has barren walls and although there’s 2 couches it’s a decent sized room and foam is what the doctor ordered. I don’t want to think about having to put those big blankets up I saw in another video...

I’m coming out with a patent super thin sound proofing. Easy to install in minutes even seconds provides full coverage. It can also double as fashionable wall or window coverings. It can even be used as furniture coverings on the fly. Just in the beginning stages of this though. It also utilized various components as materials. There are a couple downsides. It tends to block incoming radio signals, WiFi, gps, and broadcast tv signals. It’s super cheap to manufacture to. Ohhh almost forgot it is also flame retardant. I’ve put ny grill out with it. I have the ability to design it with different surfaces to for decoration purposes or also to provide different levels or desired effects to your sound requirements. You can all add materials onto it for unique sound requirements on the fly. It’s great for both very small, small, large, and very large applications. I can even print a portrait on yalls momma on it or designs of your desire. Since it will probably have to be outsourced to do this, that will probably have a very hefty price but will act only as a shipper or receiver on that end that cost of that will be going to the outsourcing specialists on that matter. Really hope this works out yall. Oh and it can be later flat or around shapes just the same the length and width is customizable and is also portable to any location. I’m actually also trying to make a sort of transparent or semi translucent version of this to place over windows to. As well as creating basically an out door tent system so people can use this anywhere anytime. Really super excited about the translucent version of this because people can place it over windows, or light sources to add amazing ambiance! Y’all I feel like a kid with this passion so hope it works out

All foam works even cheap ones. It just doesn’t perform better than expensive acoustic foams cause the material is not denser or fire resistant, but still works. I mean for a home user or getting into music. Cheap foam is fine. Cheap to expensive foam is base on what your doing. If I covered my studio completely with 12 x12 1 inch thick foam youd think it’d make a difference ? I’ve heard a lot of bad things about 1 inch thick foam
@THEKINGOCAESAR
@THEKINGOCAESAR 3 жыл бұрын
Since the foam isn’t as dense as expensive foam I wouldn’t get 1 inch cheap foam. I would stick with 2” because that extra inch makes up a little for the density. Covering your walls with anything will help but me personally I would go with 2”. Also like in the video make sure you are focusing on the reflection points. You don’t have to completely cover your walls to get a good sound. Hope this helps.
@HoganTheYoung
@HoganTheYoung 3 жыл бұрын
it depends on what you are trying to accomplish. as much as i know. thicker foam soaks longer/lower freq. up. so if u want to use it for mixing music. it is hella baad cause low freq require about 6 inch to get completly absorbed. in my opinion the cheap foam is bad. with the "diffusion" pattern it makes it hard to manage the real acoustic treatment. if your going for a cheap booth tho it should be enough since ur able to just eq the lowest freq of a vocal. and atleast the 2 inch for sure
@THEKINGOCAESAR
@THEKINGOCAESAR 3 жыл бұрын
@@HoganTheYoung I fill like something is better than nothing .I say work with what you got and upgrade later in the video the cheap foam makes a difference but you are right dense foam works a lot better. Also having good bass traps in the corners do wonders as well because most of the bass frequencies hover there. But going with cheap foam I’m always getting 2” minimum.

@@THEKINGOCAESAR No it's not. You just record through a good mic in a proper room and edit it. Like, many radio personalities just use a microphone and a compressor and that's it. I mean getting perfect sound is obviously something everyone works for, but dude, the first sound that came through on your video is clipping. And throughout the video you're clipping. It's not like some crazy deep thing is slightly off. The most basic cardinal sin of audio is there, which I don't understand. It's not like you're the only one. I've seen grammy award winners put up a video with crappy sound and it just throws me for a loop to see real sound professionals, who's one and only job is quality sound, put up bad sound on their youtube. It's like Tony Hawk does a review about the best skateboards but the whole time he keeps falling off his board. I'm not trying to trash the video. It's a good video, a great one honestly. Like someone else said, the video quality is amazing. You used a good camera, great lighting, you're great on camera, but you put audio that is clipping up. And I don't get why. Like if you have the original recording youtube recently allowed people to replace the audio in their video. I could probably fix the clipping in RX.

@@ryanpwm I honestly appreciate the feed back man. every video I’m working at it but I have to do things quick because I work a lot of hour and have two boys and mad things going on. I notice the clipping but by the time I caught it I couldn’t do anything to change it. Not because I couldn’t because I didn’t have the knowledge. I edit my videos mostly at work on an iPad using luma fusion. When I recorded the video My audio did not show me clipping but in my cameras internal sound it amplified the sound I had to turn it down. I didn’t know that. I didn’t know you could separate the audio from the video and edit it in a daw or something like rx. These are things that are different from just audio recording with is different if you are using good camera and what not. Although I am a sound guy I’m not a video guy I been learning this stuff on the fly trying to increase the quality. But I also only have 30 videos on KZfaq so for what I have I feel like I’m doing ok. In the future tho my videos will be a complete packages so I do appreciate your input and will do better to improve all aspects of my videos. I see you have a channel ima go sub man keep going. Everything gets better consistency is more important than having everything perfect. Everything else will fall in line.

@@ryanpwm if you’ve seen grammy award winners, professionals put up videos with the problems you specify that should tell you more about the problems themselves than anything else. Pure undeserved arrogance to assume you know better than guys who would destroy every ounce of knowledge on the topic you possess without breaking a sweat.
