Yeah all of my character's faces look vastly different but because of how my art style is, they're often inconsistent. I'm starting to crack down on it now with certain characters but there are a few I still just can't get to grips with...

I guess try making model sheets as practise with your characters and focus really hard on repeating it correctly even down to measurements. Obviously you can relax on it when you get better but it can be good to be strict on your drawing for a start

Maybe you could change the eye shape or if you draw lashes on your character, you can be really creative and give it different colors or shapes. You can make some characters sharp using triangles and squares as a base or make em rounder using more circular shapes

To add on to your advice about drawing different races the same: Be careful not to draw them in a stereotypical manner. Everybody has their own unique face and it's really important to remember that!!
@yorutsumetai
@yorutsumetai 4 жыл бұрын
Certain races do have similar shapes though. Latins tend to have rounder noses and higher cheek bones; Asians tend to have mono-lids and bridgeless noses; white people tend to have straighter edges (pointy noses, square jaws, etc). It’s not necessarily bad, it’s helpful as long as it isn’t over-exaggerated.

Nice!! Yeah it's really crazy how easy it is to make faces similar. I think also certain people do specific expressions too, people emote differently so making everyone having similar expressions makes them look the same. I can't have my characters use the same expressions or they'll look wack ass hell lol. Idk it's something that's always on my mind but so difficult to come up with a new face, you really have to just study faces to "get a new face" god I hope that doesn't sound creepy
@drawingwiffwaffles
@drawingwiffwaffles 6 жыл бұрын
+H.C.Brown Haha, that all makes sense to me. I always avoided doing studies when I was younger cuz I thought they'd be boring. But they are some of the most rewarding things for me to draw. It's like you can feel the improvement and it just inspires me to draw more.

I think I have the opposite of same face syndrome, it's really difficult for me to draw the same face twice. Just imagine trying to draw the same character more than once and it looks completely different. ugh (all help is welcome)
@bakugokatsuki991
@bakugokatsuki991 5 жыл бұрын
If you still can't draw the same face twice try this: in a sketch book or on a piece of paper draw a pair of eyes then try to draw the exact same thing again and again, this should work for any feature on the face. Try doing this frequently for your different characters and you will improve on drawing the same face on the character you are trying to redraw

I have a different definition of face syndrome : when I sketch an original character it literally from my mind, the thing is when I finish the face it's too familiar, like I don't know who it is, in the end it's actually one of my relatives or friends, I always try to erase the face and make it again but it still has the same outcome 😂😂😂 I don't know if I'm the only who's like that, it's too creepy for me though 😂

When I first started drawing I was literally just doodling on the side of my school assignments in pen and I think years of that made me really good at drawing faces, since I only had one shot if I didn't wan't their to be guidelines everywhere. Since I started using pencils in High School and doing digital art I actually think I've gotten a bit worse so I might have to pick it up again.

Hi waffles! Just wanted to say how amazing you are ❤ Your art is beautiful and someday I hope to be able to draw as good as you can ❤❤❤ You are my favourite art youtuber because you don't do boring tutorials like "first you draw a face, done" you explain what you are doing but in a fun way to make it enjoyable ❤ Thank you for doing what you do ❤ ~Naomi xxx

Wonderful video! This is really great advice for aspiring artists. Your positive attitude and helpful tips really inspire me to draw, for which I am very thankful! 😊 I also really enjoy the way you design your sketchbook pages. (I took notes from the sketchbook video you posted 2 weeks ago I think)

Great video! I’ll try to keep this in mind as I still consider myself a beginner artist I am still learning how I kinda want my faces to look like.

Waffles. I love when you do this (@ 9:12 ) I love when we get to know what you think about your own sketches and what you like and even dislike about your art. (In my opinion I think all your work is wonderful.) I hope you’re feeling better! I noticed your nose sounded a little stuffy in your voiceover. I hope you don’t have a cold! 🤧

Yep, that's how you do it. I call this a training camp. Just hunker down and draw a bunch of whatever you have trouble with. Even if it's not fun at the time, it will be worth it for the skill gained. Art school is really the same thing except a lot more expensive and time consuming :)

I was originally learning to draw to be a comic artist, and the guy who taught me actually told me to draw everyone with the same face and use hair and other smaller features to differentiate ( chin, facial hair, minor nose shape) . This probably ONLY works for comic books ( or rather , you can only get away with it , in comics), where heroes are differentiated by their costumes for the most part.
