I think almost every problem was a result of the limited amount of time. I know saying “give show more money” isn’t great but in this case it’s more about the fact that they want to do a lot but just didn’t have the time to do it well enough. Honestly, all your critiques are exactly why Hazbin Hotel deserves a second season. All these issues root from the fact that they only had eight episodes to explore all these different plots/characters and had no buildup or time and you treat it like it was the wirters fault? they probably already finished writing but found out later on that they had to crunch it all into 8 episodes with no time to start from scratch. I admit they were a little overambitious, but it was likely from the fear that they wouldn't get a second season. So the first season had to show as much as they possibly could. The show is also structured like a musical, which means all the scenes with the major plot beats happen in the musical number sequences. If they're able to get more episodes for the second season, most of the problems would probably be solved, though I'm not saying pacing is the show's only problem. I actually really love the first season, mostly because of how entertaining and different it is, and I've been watching since the pilot aired. But I can see why people have problems with this show. However, I think this show is a gem and has so much more potential if it gets more runtime in the next season and its popularity and succes speaks for itselft despite the shows flaws.

Hey Local, on the off chance that you are reading this, I might be wrong but based on the stark difference of your tone here and past few videos it looks like you aren't in the greatest of mental spaces right now, it very much feels like you are getting more erratic. Again I might be wrong, this might be all just for more persuassive and entertaining videos, either way just thought I'd bring it up to remind you that everyone here will understand if you need to take a break from making videos, fans support the creators they like, that is what they do if you ever feel down. Anyways, out of the doom and gloom, onto the actual video. I do agree with a lot of points here but for me they don't destroy the show, personally I look at what we got instead of what we could've gotten first to see if there is any enjoyment, then analyze what could've been as a separate thing that doesn't include the show itself as always looking at what could've been will always leave you unsatisfied as something could always been done better in some way. Now that isn't too say that criticism is to be ignored, all of the criticism is very valid but to me at least saying X is bad because it didn't do X is like asking for a bad experience. Hazbin Hotel is a very, VERY flawed show, a lot of the things had a lot of missed potential and MANY ways it could be done better, however I personally still enjoyed it. I'll put it how I see it, no one deserves anything in the world, I might even use the word deserve myself but I don't think I ever used it in a serious moment outside of giving emotional support to friends, either way, there should be no such thing as deserving of a second season, they got a second season, if you really want to use a word for getting another season I would say "earn" is the better word. They should EARN their second season, prove that it was worth it. There are shows that had bad first couple seasons and got better over time, some had the opposite where they were good in the first few seasons and bad in the next few, oh no but those "deserved" a second season. No, you gotta "earn" another season. When the next season comes out, just look if it improved or not, was the season earned? If not and they get yet another season, you either give up on the show or have the same mindset for the next season, did it "earn" that season when it comes out? etc, etc. I hope I made my point clear and I apologise if I sounded a bit like a jerk at times, you have to be persuassive after all somehow. I wouldn't say it being rushed is a reason for it not to have a second season that should be the reason for the second season to do things better. But I'd love a season 1 "Revamped" where they use all the deleted scenes and dialogue and actually try to stretch out into more episodes I'd pay good money for that.

I think you can't really have an Archane level of character development when your show is limited to twelve 20 minute episodes man, just saying... Hence, even more reason to have a season 2 in order to flesh out the characters more, let the writers learn from their mistakes, and maybe be able to work with the limitations that they've got

It’s a cluster-fuck from a writer who hasn’t improved in over a decade. While I still enjoy it, it’s not gonna improve. Helluva Boss hasn’t improved that much - or at all - instead it still repeats the same mistakes over and over again, and Vivziepop refuses to improve because of her feelings. Season 2 will have all the same issues, and it will bring in new ones. It’s so obnoxious the writers want this show to have an over-arching story but don’t have the patience to do it.

I think you hot the problem on the head with the last point. The vibe I was getting the entire time was ‘we don’t know if we’re going to get more then this so let’s cram it all in’ Also I’m almost certain that Adam’s character was based entirely around the strengths of his voice actor. Adam is nearly 1:1 broadway Beetlejuice, just angel this time instead of demon ( he’s a demon in the stage show) Additionally Velvets musical number and personality changed almost completely and I can’t help but wonder if that was just so she could sing a copycat of ‘Don’t lose your head’ from the musical Six. Vis seems like the kinda writer who will change the entire plot to make room for a cool idea she had (or borrowed) so I’m hoping maybe going forward things will improve just because she’s not sitting on her concepts so long they hatch into alligators instead of chickens. Hellvaboss had a similar issue where its premise went flying out the window before it even got started, but if you’re willing to forget what the show was ever supposed to be about, it’s a nice spectacle. And maybe the goal of this first season was to try to make good on the plot promises from the pilot so it could be ‘taken out back’ and start fresh next season.

This is all VERY true, and like most people in the comments I concur, we don't enjoy saying a show we waited 5 years for is bad. BUT it really is, and for season 2 they really need to take a step back and slow things down

I don’t think so. The team behind Hazbin and Helluva have one major problem: they can’t focus on the plot to save their lives. Both shows were good if you just like following whacky characters in their day to day. But that’s not what both shows we’re about. Watching them, you wouldn’t even really know they had plots. They can’t drop ideas that don’t further the story, they have to include EVERYTHING. Which is admirable, but flawed and makes for a pretty disjointed viewing experience

This series goes way too fast for its own good. Every Amazon series seems to take its time with its seasons. The Boys, Invincible, Vox Machina. All shows that take their time. In fact, plenty of things from the show could have been told over multiple seasons: Season 1: Charlie building up the hotel and earning her Dad's respect. Small interludes for characters and establishing their issues. Season 2: Developing the overlords and have Angel take a background role with his conflicts with Valentino. Season 3: Preparations and payoff for the war with heaven. Season 4: The Vs becoming the main antagonists for the Hotel

I feel like one major problem with the show is that it is heavily dependent on fans seeing the side projects that Vivzi and the Spindlehorse team have made for the characters in the past (older videos and comics). Someone who literally JUST got into the show may see the whole conflict between Val and Angel and think "Yeah, it's a problem and they resolved it in the manner of two episodes". But someone who saw the Addict music video back in 2020 as well as the comics showing interactions between Angel and Val (and maybe also the Instagram posts) would see it as more of a "build up". But that is dependent on fans seeing those older pieces of media. The problem with that is that it really only appeals to the "long time fans" of the series and leaves the newer fans in the dark.

Personally i like Hazbin S1 less than Helluva S1 and S2. But i think it was more so mid for not only failing to meet the hype surrounding it, but failing to execute the premise put forth. But i do think it deserves a second season as a chance for redemption and to prove itself. The show has displayed to amazon that it can pull in views and attention. So now if they were to get a S2 with more faith from Amazon, they can hopefully have more episodes and fix the problems people have addressed.

I honestly don't care what happens to this show because if it does get cancelled, viv still has her die hard fans who 100% support the independent production of Helluva Boss. And when people make that argument of "there wasn't enough time," I think about the same writing problems Helluva Boss has in relation to Hazbin Hotel. Overall, she needs to improve on her writing now or get somebody else who actually takes what theyre doing seriously. As much as I love her characters, it's difficult to ignore or defend anything in this show..

Yes it does But it shouldn't have *NEEDED* one. That's my problem with this series. They were too focused on the future that they completely neglected the present. And due to being stubborn and not willing to compromise with the time they were given, decided to cram in literal SEASONS worth of plot into the span of 8 episodes; giving us coconut payoff after coconut payoff (Grand on the outside, hollow on the inside) That is bad for no matter how you slice it. More episodes wouldn't have saved this, and neither will a second season I guarantee that.

While I do agree that the show's narrative and character development are some of its weaker elements, I wouldn't necessarily say that immediately demands canceling a second season. The show has creative, fun character designs, beautiful, detailed animation, great songs and some decent writing in terms of character interactions. Definitely enough redeemable qualities in my book to warrant a second season.

In this situation, it doesn’t have to give a reason to care; because Hazbin Hotel has existed and built a fandom for 5 years already, if you watch Hazbin Hotel, you likely already have a reason to care.

It had the biggest audiance of a new animated show and a high audience rating, by that metric alone it deserves a second season. Way worse shows got second seasons. ALL of its problems were related to pacing due to having to condense 12 episodes down to 8 Also, angel is a guy, he is a gay porn star and has never referred to himself as she. He calls himself "actor" not "actress". Hard to take your criticism serously when you cant even get that right.

You know what really deserves a second season, jujutsu kaisen, if the writer just gave the manga some godamn fucking time to grow and develop its cast of estabilished characters and stories it would be one of the best shonen mangas in my opnion.

I kinda felt like the season isn't short like they just fit an entire season into one episode with bad story writing like holy moly, this is not rushed anymore,they can't blame it on the short season.

I think Hazbin Hotel is like a cake. You started off with all of the right ingredients. But the recipe was written by an amateur chef. And the baker took it out only halfway through its cooking time. It needed more writers to reign things in. It needed more time in the oven. And it shouldn’t be served in a rushed dessert course only 8 minutes before the restaurant closes to get it in before a deadline. The potential was there. But it didn’t have the execution necessary to make the most of it.

You know what, i think i'm just getting a bit tired of the adult animation thing as a whole, they really fumbled so bad with helluva boss, and i really hate how they go above and beyond to make things as meta as possible thinking it would be funny But, i actually enjoyed season 1 of this show, i been a fan since the pilot dropped and the season was good, yeah i admit the fandom does suck so bad, but i really really hope they dont repeat the same mistake they did with helluva with hazbin hotel

Adam is meant to be flat, not have any complexity and complete lack of self awareness. He didn't eat the fruit of Knowledge of Good and Evil which grants you free will as explained in the prologue.

The frustrating thing is that we see in the moments that are good we see that theyre able to do good or even great stuff but focused on rushing everything because they didnt wanted to change the script. Making the first season just about charlie and at least the way to she wants to redeem sinners would have been the better choice since she fixing her issues first before everyone else and it would make her a more complex character. Then in the second season with more episode comes angels arc and maybe vaggie if you have enough time.

The story isn't great, I agree.... But it looks so good and I like the music enough that I can let it pass.

The thing I find funny is that most of the actual issues with the show have to do with the fact that prime just didn’t give them enough episodes to work with. That big battle against Adam and the legions of Heaven should’ve happened after at least 16 or more episodes. I really hope season two is longer so that way the story doesn’t feel rushed.

The pacing in general is abominable, the world building and characters feel shallow (despite having potential) and in general I find the character designs to be repetitive and too visually similar, I totally agree with this video! I feel like every character is underwritten and under-explored, even if it is a result of a short season they should have cut back on the characters they tried to include. The storytelling is REALLY mishandled in almost every regard and there’s no consistency between what is a joke and what isn’t (the story seems to tell you not to take anything too seriously while simultaneously wanting you to take the story and struggles of the characters seriously) eg. a character being immediately OBLITERATED in a self-sacrificing moment should be a scary serious moment, showing the overwhelming power of your antagonist etc. Overall it was way too compressed, rushed, and mishandled, the attempt to include everything rather than picking out a couple characters, storylines and premises to follow is what ruined the show.

I think them not expecting a 2nd season isn't exactly the worst thing to do as a writer. I've seen some shows that were so confident that they were getting continued that they basically didn't explain or expand on much because they thought "Well we can expand on it in the next Season" only to not get one. Or them ending on a low note because they didn't now that what the would show would be the last episode, like Batman Beyond or Spectacular Spider-Man. But the opposite is also true like you said, shows thay don't believe that they will be continued can tend to rush things. Like Legend of Korra was only renewed after each Season was completed, so they wrote the first 2 Season's Finale's like they were the end of the Series. Which made them feel rushed and clunky. With only Seasons 3 and 4 being bought together, so they actually could set stuff up for later. But for some shows it did actually work. After Batman Beyond got cancelled early the DCAU staff decided to right every other show's Season Finale like it was the last episode of the Series. Which gave every Finale this feeling of finality which I think they did well. So I think them not planning on getting Season 2 isn't necessarily a wrong or right choice, just the safest one you can make as a writer.

I think the biggest problem with this show is its "all tell but no show" kind of storytelling where we'll see character development from the characters without actually seeing the development like with sir pentous having a closer bond with the other characters after angel had rescued him from that battlefield but we dont know what happened for them to survive we dont know what transpired for them to have a closer bond. Its madness how much this show missed on alot of the plot.

So I think it should still get a season 2 despite season 1 being really really rushed in terms of every arc. This is because now that all those other arcs have been finished, they would have more time to focus on other major arcs. Although, this is just speculation and a touch of copium on my part

I think it may have to do more with Prime seeing it was popular but at the same time not really taking the show seriously. So not having a lot of faith in it only green light half of what may have been needed. This is entirely speculative with Steven universe was treated with weird release scheduling by its Network and Vivian stating she wants the show to go on for a while.

I agree with the character arcs and plot points being rushed. Season 1 might have been better if they cut some characters and save them for season 2. Vox and Velvet didn't do much and their screen time could have gone to Angel. I'm praying Amazon gives them more episodes.

would rather have a "rushed" show than what we usually get, which is a story that is dragged on without fully telling itself. sequel hell is much worse than fast pacing, there is no real comparison. its especially weird to insinuate that you cant care about characters unless there's so much dragging of the show. a medium that is never going to die is movies which are extremely fast paced.

Having to watch the show after waiting 5 years I can agree it wasn't a good show as it was an okay show. It felt like it was rushed and had too many plots in a single episode. Having an "A & B" plot is fine, but they throw the whole alphabet in an episode. Am happy it is getting a second season, but I hope they work on the writing and the spacing because if every episode can be a month or two weeks in the universe be more than enough to flesh out their ideas. Overall looking forward to the new season just hope they improve on their writing and focused

So many problems with the show would have been mostly fixed if the runtime was longer.

After the unnecessary war with heaven and the slaughtering of Adam, HH destroyed its own plot, and made it completely pointless. Why would Charlie and the gang ever want to continue building a hotel to redeem sinners after, going to war with heaven, not getting their backing, and killing off the first man (a not so subtle message about taking down the patriarchy). Charlie could not get Heaven's backing in the sixth episode, so why and how could she get it now? She can't. It's impossible now. They are all war criminals and Heaven's greatest enemies now. They deserve nothing but punishment now. Plus, despite her wishes to redeem sinners, she can't do it by default of being the devil's daughter. Redemption only comes from God (who is bizarrely absent from the show altogether). No other way is possible. Makes me feel sorry for her in that way. The show is completely pointless now. There's no point to it. The season 1 finale played out like a series finale, and now it's a dead show. So, NO. No season 2 for Hazbin Hotel.

Hazbin is great at moments, but you string all those moments together and it all falls apart. It feels like the season got its episode count cut in half but instead of cutting the plot in half, they just cut out all of the character development to squeeze in all the hard-hitting moments

I watched the show, didn't rlly like the main plot. I'll only watch it if there's more on the vee's. That's literally it. I don't think the diehard fans are gonna like how blatant you're being though when you say bad lol. And as a new viewer I was confused asf as to why Lucifer and Charlie's relationship seemed instantly fine the second they met. When you're describing Adam though I'm just now realizing how much better this show could be if it was taken seriously to literally any degree.
