I just got a set of these (105-50) and a Hipshot Kickass bridge for my MIM Fender Jazz Bass and they are the, loudest, punchiest, tons of sustain, most resposive, balanced strings I have ever used. The attack is AMAZING and the harmonics and overtones are out of this world. If John Entwhistle were still alive, he would probably like them.

Ever since I started using NYXL's, I loved them. Used them for almost a year now on my 7-string. Really gives a brighter tone and seems to add more 'chunk' also but retaining clarity.

I bought my first pack of these today.. put them on my sterling by musicman Sub Ray4... I love them... all I used to use way ernie ball pink pack (light gauge).. I got the NYXL's .45-100 (light gauge) and my god they not only sound but they PLAY awesome. I love these strings.

I have the electric guitar version in my Yamaha RGX A2 for sometime now and I tell you guys, they're just insane! It's mind-blowing how far you can bend them (I managed to get 12 semi-tones out of a 0.10 set tuned in C#) and they hardly ever get out of tune when playing! Plus they're very comfortable to play and making vibratos is virtually effortless. Some might say that's because of the low tune but I never got any of this from the previous sets, and I've used a lot of brands over the years.

I recently switched from Ernie Ball Coated strings to D'Addario NYXL strings on my Epiphone SG and the NYXL's are so much better strings. They aren't trying to completely take over my tone with super high frequencies, and like Dave said, they are super smooth strings. I'm so glad I switched because they are amazing. If they do make flatwounds, I'll sure buy a set for my jazz bass.

Silly me slapped a set of non D'Addario strings on my bass about 2 months ago (I shant say what brand, but they rhyme with "Blinky"). Never again... The .105 low E went dead after about 3 weeks... Back to D'Addario XL170's if I cant find the NYXL's here in metro Detroit.

I wonder what the brand of those stings are… Me too though man, I put blinkys on my guitar and BAM the strings go out of tune if I hold my guitar too tight, they can't hold tuning and sound dead. I'm going back to daddario

On a related note, a comparison video where you flip back and forth between something being played on Dave™'s normal strings and on NYXLs would be interesting. They definitely sound great but how different exactly they sound would be easier to discern in that style of video. And we'd get to see Dave™ playing some more which is always great.

One trick is the freshness of his other video's strings. Fresh strings will pretty much always be punchier. And generally sustain better.

+Rob Chapman Please, ask someone from Planet Waves why they have not made a bass version of their excellent Auto-Trim locking tuning machines (I understand that the existing guitar versions were designed by Ned Steinberger). I am looking to get into bass, and I would greatly miss the tuning machines which have made my disability easier to mitigate.

Hi guys I use elixir strings, they seem much brighter than those on this demo. The NYXL's seem very low sounding. Can you foresee a problem cutting through the rest of the band in a live setting? Cause as you know it's always a different ball game between room practice and a live stage, quite off bass players have to completely reinvent their eq setting when it comes to finding that sonic pocket between guitarist and drummer, which is totally different to bedroom/rehearsal room practice. I can see these strings may struggle in this situation, what do you think? Also will the chapman Ml1 bass be available in different finishes/tops other than bubinga. Like what Dave is playing in the video?

why did D'addario bail on the Prism strings??? Those were great!!! These sound like they might be closer than the flexsteel or prosteel strings. Man, i miss those Prisms.

I can't speak for guitar, but their Chromes for bass are fantastic. Really round, warm tone and incredibly easy to play. You do lose a fair amount of top end brightness, though. On the bright side (pun intended), they last ages upon ages.

Why not play coated strings? They last longer. Sound a LOT clearer, and they are butter smooth from the start. And it takes a long time for the strings to lose it's tone

I've been a d 'Addario fan forever! But, please ask them to put out sets of round core (and low tension) nickle and stainless steel roundwounds (105-45's); like DR and Dunlop, so I will be able to string my (first owner wrecked truss rod) '82 G&L SB-2 JJ bass ( the only roundwound stringed bass I string with DR's or Dunlop's instead of my usuall d'Addario's!!))
