What is interesting about watching videos like this, is it is very clear that they do not know what they are talking about at all concerning the afterlife. They look as if they are sort of guessing and having an idea about it, not that they are speaking from any sort of concrete knowledge. Isn't it better to just say "I don't know?" than to pretend you have knowledge about something that you do not? I love the positive energy. It just appears as if this person is making up an answer to a question that he knows absolutely nothing about.
@groovivi
@groovivi 3 жыл бұрын
I totally agree. The scriptures are full of contradictory statements about the afterlife. The sages of the talmud also keep contradicting each other on the subject matter. It is clear that none has any clue and everyone is trying to salvage his/her own tradition. Still, I think this rabbi's position is less toxic than people who hold that their god will torture the bulk of humaniy for eternity....
@kingdavid5529
@kingdavid5529 3 жыл бұрын
@@groovivi well hold on, I don't think that nobody has any idea about it, I simply think that these people don't, other than reading what someone else says about it. I don't know if all Christians believe that God will torture the majority of people for eternity, I think the maximum that is generally thought is 1/3rd, which is still a lot, however. Mormons for example believe that it is very few people that wind up cast out into straight hell. I think all of our positions need balancing, but the only way to know this for certain is direct knowledge. I believe the prophets are ambiguous as to the matter because of the fact that describing it would be too complex for understanding, not because it cannot be described. I have had my own visions of these things and they could fill books. But at the end of the books, you might still wonder what I was talking about. Ultimately, Christians and Jews agree that there is a world to come, a resurrection of the dead, and a judgement and reward system that is in place. On this, Islamic people agree, and you have approximately half the world or so in those three groups, if not a little more. So I think it is of more value to simply do good, and create goodness on the earth for everyone, and to do our best to love others, and to love our creator who breathed life into us.
@groovivi
@groovivi 3 жыл бұрын
@@kingdavid5529 Thanks for your reply King David. I respect the fact you had your "own visions". However, from what I read in the tanakh, gospels, quran, I can clearly see an evolution on the view on afterlife from (1) annihilation, to (2) sheol, to (3) resurrection and judgment, to (4) paradise and hell... With so many diffent voices, tales and opinions in the scriptures, I tend to think that they are all conjectures because I would expect much more consistency between so-called prophets on such a crucial topic as afterlife. The quran is shrewd in depicting all prophets agreeing on the matter of afterlife but even a superficial reading of the hebrew and christian texts make it appearant that it is not the case... For instance, it is clear that the book of Genesis lends no credence to the idea of a resurrection (3:19 "for you are dust, and to dust you shall return"). While the whole book Ecclesiastes (Kohelet) was obviously authored by someone who bore no belief in the afterlife (Ecclesiastes 3:19 "surely the fate of human beings is like that of the animals; the same fate awaits them both: As one dies, so dies the other")... Ultimately, the fact that half of the world population (Xans, muslims, jews) beleives in the resurrection / judgement / afterlife does not make it truer...

@@groovivi while this is true, I have a fairly technical explanation for this phenomenon and how it works. Of course, believing in my explanations carries the same issues; however, it does not contradict any of these explanations. I think part of the issue you have in looking at this is that Torah is not a series of books that are there to talk about afterlife, they are a series of books that are there to create societal law and spiritual practices that can reconnect a society with Elohim and create redemption from sin, along with stories of righteousness, rebellion, punishment, and repentance. A sort of "book of Karma" is how I would sell it to a Buddhist. Torah says "a prophet shall the LORD your God raise up like unto me [Moses speaking] and him shall ye hear in all things whatsoever he shall command you" or something like that. So there is precedent in Torah to have additional knowledge revealed, so it is not surprising that later, additional knowledge is revealed. A lot of the discrepancies in explanations of the afterlife come from people mixing parts of a being described in the Bible together. For example, you have a soul and you have a body, and a spirit, and the 3 are described in various passages as different things happening - so you have a giant group of Bible believers that believe when you die, that's it. Another group will point to various passages showing some sort of continuity of being. This is because parts of your energetic matrix perish, and others do not. While this is very obvious to me, it is not really very obvious in the Bible. My point is, there is a reason for everything. Yes, there will be a physical resurrection of the dead and a judgement. There are a lot more things that happen as well. Reincarnation of the consciousness, spirit worlds, transitory punishment areas people go to who do not change from their evil in between the resurrection, etc. I think a lot of this is because if you try to take the spiritual universe, and put it into a box that can be described by the physical universe, you automatically begin having issues as they are ran differently in some regards. So there is a conglomeration of ideas and parts of this knowledge are everywhere, in every culture. Ultimately, I think the most important lesson is to do good, love people, and have faith in a Higher Power. That will never lead someone to darkness that they cannot have a way out of.

In spirituality with multiple near death experience accounts I learned that ‘hell’ is a state of mind, it’s not a place meant for eternal damnation. People ask how this can be, how can people who have done terrible things go to the same heaven as those who were good people? From what I’ve heard there are different levels to heaven and when we die we go through something called a ‘life review’ and in that we look at our life from start to finish, birth to death and we experience every single thing we’ve done both good and bad. So everything we’ve done to others we will experience in THEIR eyes, THEIR POV both physically and mentally and with that we will realize the pain we’ve caused, not only the pain but also the good. Do unto others what you would have them do unto you. We are all ONE. To me that sounds pretty fair then a eternal damnation because we’re not using ‘Lucifer’ as a scapegoat. You don’t get to get a free pass for what you’ve caused, EVERYBODY experiences a life review, even the ‘best people’ will experience some of the hurt they’ve caused because we all have caused hurt and you will have to face it. You don’t get to skip it, you WILL face it.

But based on this logic, looking back with emotional regret or not, what does it matter if someone believes in God or not if they'll ultimately be with Him in the end and will be in His presence despite never believing in Him while they were alive? That just gives anyone the okay to live how they want without much worry. Sure, it may worry some, but that's truly not the justified punishment for those who refuse to believe in the one and only All Mighty God. There's no salvation in that. Hell is a real place, an eternal lake of fire meant to punish the devil and his angels along with those who deny Christ because sin cannot enter into heaven. However, our sins can be overlooked and washed white as snow by the blood of Jesus Christ as long as we genuinely desire to be saved by Him to escape that punishment. It's a free gift that not everyone is willing to take.

The Christian view is not that if you commit a sin you go to hell. The whole point of Christianity is that Jesus Christ is our lord and savior and through a relationship with him your sins will be washed away. We our of man and man is going to sin that is absolute, so no matter how much you try you are going to fall short of righteousness, but Jesus Christ will wash your sins away and through him and only him will you be able to get to God in Heaven. This is not a way to make an excuse to sin and say that since I will be forgiven for my sin I can do anything I want with no repercussions, since a relationship with Christ is only possible if you repent of your sins which doesn’t mean you just say forgive me lord for I have sinned and go on about your day but means that you are actively trying to be a better Christian and live as close to a sinless life as possible. At the end of the day nobody is perfect except for Jesus so we are going to sin no matter what but it’s the commitment to try and be better and to have a relationship with Jesus that will ultimately get you into heaven.

But I’ve come to Judaism in my adult hood and truly there is nothing more peaceful than knowing that as long as I take each opportunity to better myself, no matter how many mistakes I may make, the end holds nothing to make me feel fear. I don’t necessarily even have to have Faith in this life, I don’t have to have a savior or messiah or God to save me. I am solely responsible for my own happiness in this life and the next. I see all these comments, I’m just as confused about the concept of Hell and heaven, according to others beliefs / religion. I would hope Hell is not depicted as Christianity or Islam say it is. That is extremely terrifying, and it causes many people to disbelieve, becoming angry, or scared everyday of their life, because they did bad and feel like they won’t be forgiven. I can honestly say I’m extremely scared about Hell, I’ve had people in my life that did me wrong but I would NEVER want then to EVER go there. Sometimes I think, if God is all loving, God wouldn’t put something he created to suffer forever, it seems unbelievable yet believable, because if that’s all you know Hell to be, as a place for sinners burning forever, it’s hard to think of Hell as something else. I’ve been worried trying to find the answers, but it’s only wasting my time being scared and depressed, I would just have to follow from here on. My God forgive me and everyone.

And then forever.) According to passages in the Old Testament, Abraham's god is an advocate of slavery, genocide, misogyny, and infanticide. Along with advocating the stoning of sabbath breakers, disobedient children, witches and homosexuals. If you have to worship a mythical being, why choose a barbaric one? So when you wrote, "... through scripture such as Quran" to what were your referring if not biblical scripture? The logical inference from that statement would be that you think there's more than one. Does the Koran not say your god will punish his defiant children in hell just as the Bible does? If so, there's no need to cite the Koran. It condemns your god's character every bit as much as the Bible does.

The rabbi's description of "hell" is exactly the Catholic concept of purgatory -- a time limited state in which you realize fully who you were vs who you could have been. Hell is defined as "eternal separation from God" and Catholics are required to believe that it exists but not that any soul is there. In Bulgakov's great novel "The Master and Marguerita" the last soul to leave purgatory is Pontius Pilate. I think today we might say that the last soul to leave purgatory (assuming that's where he is) would be Adolf Hitler.

Isaiah 53:1 “Who has believed our message and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed? 2 He grew up before him like a tender shoot, and like a root out of dry ground. He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nothing in his appearance that we should desire him. 3 He was despised and rejected by mankind, a man of suffering, and familiar with pain. Like one from whom people hide their faces he was despised, and we held him in low esteem. 4 Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted. 5 But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed. 6 We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all. 7 He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before its shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth. 8 By oppression and judgment he was taken away. Yet who of his generation protested? For he was cut off from the land of the living; for the transgression of my people he was punished. 9 He was assigned a grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death, though he had done no violence, nor was any deceit in his mouth. 10 Yet it was the Lord’s will to crush him and cause him to suffer, and though the Lord makes his life an offering for sin, he will see his offspring and prolong his days, and the will of the Lord will prosper in his hand. 11 After he has suffered, he will see the light of life and be satisfied; by his knowledge my righteous servant will justify many, and he will bear their iniquities. 12 Therefore I will give him a portion among the great, and he will divide the spoils with the strong, because he poured out his life unto death, and was numbered with the transgressors. For he bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.”

Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10 Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you I do not speak on my own authority. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work. 11 Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the works themselves. 12 Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. 13 And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.”

It's baffling where the classic tortured-forever-in-flames Christian hell comes from, because it isn't even found in the New Testament. The most frequent references are to being banished to the 'outer darkness', which seems to be a state of separation from God. There's a single reference to those not found written in the Book of Life being thrown into the Lake of Fire, but if the whole chapter is read, even if taken literally it appears to be annihilation, not eternal torment.

The believe or burn doctrine troubles me as well. For 4 thousand years the ancient Jews had little knowledge and even less concern regarding an after life. It didn't work seem to bother anybody. When gunslinger, aka Jesus, hit Jerusalem, one of his main topics was a place called hell. Why? In Matthew 25 Jesus sends the "goats" an eternal unquenchable fire. Why? When Jesus spoke of hell, he knew they didn't know anything about what he was saying.

The Talmud was started in 70 CE ..Rome had led a successful campaign against the Druids killing off all those who carried the Oral teaching ..so it was decided to put all the oral teachings and commemtary on the teachings into writing to save it from being destroyed by the Romans (this first part of Talmud is called the Mishna) ... more and more and more commentary has been added through the years by amazing teachers and sages and Rabbis..that is called the Gemara ..the full compilation is Talmud (which is short for study of Torah .. .. ..the name I love "the Art of the Question"). The pentateuch is a Greek word for Torah (just throwing this in there) ..I use the word Torah for the Hebrew version of the 1st 5 books of the Bible ..pentateuch represents the Greek version of the 1st 5 books ... So when a Rabbi is talking about the Hebrew Bible ..they use the study guide and teachings that have been compiled over the course of a few thousand years

I'm Christian, but I almost always understood the fire, weeping, and gnashing of teeth to be symbolic of the emotional/spiritual/mental regret of not choosing to live a life the way that Jesus Christ taught to live. I also understood the riches of heaven to be symbolic (or at least reduced to something as valuable gold being used as street construction material) compared to being in God's presence forever. The Christian view of Jesus Christ is that He restored the relationship between God and man; anyone who does not choose that chooses on their own accord to live forever in a place away from God. So the core of the Christian view of hell too is separation from God; the physical characteristics were simply to paint a reality of how hard it will be to truly live outside of God's presence - like that heavy feeling that a person feels when they are stressed or feeling like they can't get through something, it literally feels like your soul has weights pushing you down. I believe that type of feeling (and some that we have never even experienced) awaits those who choose to live eternally without God. I'm failing to see how ghenna is described anywhere in biblical teachings to be temporary. We are given one life this side of sheol and judgement to decide where we want to spend eternity. Ghenna, referring to the ancient garbage dump south of Jerusalem, isn't a place of refinement; it is a place where garbage is burned. I love all peoples, so I'm not calling those that do not turn to God through Jesus Christ as garbage. But I am saying that the God's word does not indicate that this place is a place of refinement; what goes there, stays there. However, I chose to comment here because I really do like Rabbi Moshe Zeldman's description of heaven and agree with some points of his description of hell. There may be a spiritual danger in teaching that hell is temporary, though.

You can’t get any more authentic than filming from Israel. And it’s funny how this rabbi thinks about hell. He obviously hasn’t read what Jesus said. God can do anything, including allowing your soul to feel pain from a kind of fire. It shows you have a very limited view.

I agree with the Rabbi. I always wondered how in the world can a loving father let his children burn in Hell for eternity. As a parent I love unconditionally and The Bible said not even a parent love for his/her child can compared to Gods love for us. I was brought up as a Hindu and was fortunate enough to learn other religions at a very young age.. I remembered how I felt reading the Bible for the first time as if my soul knew this loving God and the Bible was just awakening up m memories of him. However! Certain parts of the Bible could not fit the loving God who created me and that’s where I believe that some things in the Bible was miss interoperated like burning in hell for ever and ever. Knowing how lost humans are that’s a very wicked thing to do to a created being who didn’t asked to be here in the first place!!

That's because the bible doesn't explicitly state hell is eternal. Jude talks about sodom facing the punishment of eternal fire, and sodom isn't burning still today. Isaiah talks about who will be able to dwell in God's consuming fire. And it's the righteous that will. Not those who are incouragably wicked.

gavin reed sadly there is a lot of twisting of Christianity today. There is true Christianity and then there is pagan Christianity. Things like the Disney movie "all dogs go to heaven" gives a twisted story of God, the devil, heaven and hell, and the movie Constantine is also very pagan, but it twists the truth of God and Christianity and people who don't know the truth begin to take these movies in mind when being told about God.

all of those speak to the christian identity and belief system.They certainly are not basing it off Judaism. From what I have studied of Christianity the entire thing is based off the "pagan" religions ...they changed the Rabbi, Jesus son of Joseph into the god Mithras made Ishtar (Easter) his virgin mother and the god Pan is their Satan. None of that has anything to do with Judaism ... they even changed the day of rest to SUNday in honor of Mithras who is a SUN deity

M.I. Moon that was the Catholic Church that declared Sunday as the Sabbath. Actual Christians still worship on Saturday. But if you think about it really all the days of the week are named after gods. Monday- the moon, wednesday- woden or Odin, thursday- Thor, friday-freya, saturday- Saturn and Sunday as you have already stated, the sun. The whole world system is riddled in paganism. This why God has warned us to not do the things of the world, have no love for the world.

The hell the good rabbi mentions is actually purgatory, purgation of the soul..... Out of body experience: Ezekiel - picked up by his hair and carried to Jerusalem. He ate/tasted food etc Job 7: 14 - you scare me with dreams and terrify me with visions Isaiah 21: 2 : a grievous vision is declared unto me. Job 4: 14: Fear came upon me, and trembling, which made all my bones to shake. Isaiah 24: 22 - And they shall be gathered together, as prisoners are gathered in the pit, and shall be shut up in the prison Proverbs 7: 27 Her house is the way to hell, going down to the chambers of death. Job 17: 16 They shall go down to the bars of the pit Jonah 2:6 I went down to the bottoms of the mountains, the earth with her bars was about me forever Isaiah 14: 9-10 Hell from beneath is moved for thee to meet thee at thy coming, …They shall speak and say unto thee “Ärt thou also become weak as we?” Psalm 88: 4 I am counted with those who go down to the pit; I am like a man who has no strength Isaiah 38:18 Those who go down to the pit cannot hope for Your truth Leviticis 17 : For the life of the flesh is in the blood - you have no blood or water coming from your wounds in hell.There no life in hell, so no blood. Zechariah 9:11 - As for you, by the blood of your covenant,I have freed your prisoners from a waterless pit..( * [9:11] The blood of your covenant: the covenant between the Lord and Israel sealed with sacrificial blood (Ex 24:8).) Psalm 103:17 But the LORD’s mercy is from age to age,toward those who fear him.His salvation is for the children’s children Lamentations 3 : 6 - He has left me to dwell in dark places like those long dead. (* [3:1-66] This chapter is focused less on the destruction of Jerusalem than are chaps. 1 and 2 and more on the suffering of an individual.) Exodus 10:21 : Even darkness may be felt - Evil that may be felt Ecclesiastes, 9-10 Anything you can turn your hand to, do with what power you have; for there will be no work, no planning, no knowledge, no wisdom in Sheol where you are going.

The Devine Name, The holy One, Tafsir Rasag, Targum Jerusalem, Kabbalah, Shaarei orah, Midrash, legends of the Jews. And that is only a slice of the pie, that the Jews have. In the legends Of The Jews, I found this. In the beginning, two thousand years before the Heaven and the Earth, seven things were created: the Torah written with Black fire on White fire, and lying in the lap of God: the Devine Throne, erected in Heaven which later was over the heads of the Hayyot, Paradise on the Right side of God, hell on the Left side, the celestial sanctuary directly in front of God, having a Jewel on its Altar graven with the name of the Messiah, and a voice that cries aloud, Return Ye children of Men,

this is completely against what the Sages have taught us in the Gemara and many other books. There is a real fire and suffering of Gehinom that is discussed in the book Reshit Chochma, or Rambam, or Gemara or other places. The only time in history that there is being views that contradict it is in today's politically correct and weak society that believes that Am Israel and the public cannot handle the truth of Torah (or anything else for that matter. Portraying Gehinom like the "washing machine" or "distance" he mentioned in the Torah is pure heresy and falsehood, and since JTV is all about getting people to the "Truth", I would be very happy if you actually verify everything I said versus what he (and many like him) say. It's not that we want to debate, but rather is enough of this wishy washy version of the Torah that cuts out parts like Reward & Punishment because it is no longer convenient. You want truth, its only a few clicks or pages away.

Although most of the description of Gehinom (aka Hell) is in the Oral Torah, it is also mentioned in written Torah in several places. One of the most notable locations is in Parashat Korach (Numbers 16:30 and 16:33), where the Torah describes the punishment that Korach and his followers received after going against Moses, as the grown opened up and swallowed them whole and they all fell into Sheol, which is a known name for Gehinom, mentioned in many places by King David, King Solomon and many of the other prophets throughout the Torah. This simple and literal example of Gehinom is enough to destroy all of the naysayers and confused souls that think that there is no Judge and no Judgement by the One and only Creator of the world. Unfortunately we live in a world full of confusion and lies which leads people that are very lax about seeking the truth in a life full of falsehood. Spreading the truth is what the Jewish prophets did and they had to fight day and night for it. It's not much different today.

Satan the fallen angel is a christian concept that some Jews (not orthodox) have grafted into their belief system ... there is no proof of Satan as a fallen angel in Torah where the word is only used as vocabulary word not a proper name ...nor in the Tanach ... his job is to test mankind, and as the prosecuting attorney at Judgement ..... nobody likes lawyers but you know hey ... their just doing their job. I am thankful for the opportunity to be tested and to grow .... I can't say I always like it, but I am thankful Creator gave me a mind that can learn and a spirit that is still growing

Satan is also mentioned quite often in the Christian New Testament ... both the Quran and the Christian New Testament were written thousands of years after Torah. I am taking into consideration the original text the others are based upon. I do believe Quran was influenced by the Christian religion as there are many stories of Jesus within it's pages. My point is looking at Torah where Satan appears in two stories .... in feminine form as the 3rd well in a row the patriarch Isaac dug and the king of land fought him over ..then the angel who used the name of Satan to oppose Ballam making his donkey talk ...and then Job and Zechariah ..... in those writings Satan is not a fallen angel in rebellion against Hashem ~ he's not a nice character. . .however in both stories in which he is named he is obeys the rules and not once tries to stab Hashem in the back to grab the throne

By tradition Muhammad finished writing the Quran in 632 CE (current era) ... By tradition Moses finished writing Torah in 1312 BCE (before current era). After Torah many other books were written ... Isaiah came after Torah. Psalms came after Torah ... Zechariah came after Torah .... Judges came after Torah ....etc etc etc. I am not a Jew .. I am certainly not a Christian .and I am not Muslim ...in my book all three of you are nuts with hatred anger and greed, but my culture teaches me to respect ...and to learn from other cultures. We are all part of the same hoop and must find a way to be together. No where did I write Torah is last holy book .. Torah was the first of the books of the mid east's holy trinity (Jew-Christian-Muslim) Ishmael being the eldest son of Abraham and Isaac being the younger with Christianity as the adopted son I can see where Islam views self as being the best ....of course everyone one of them believes themselves to be the superior race creed religion ... however the Quran was written in 632 CE well after the other writings basing themselves off the Torah. All three of you are basing yourself off Torah. I do not understand why it is so important for religious people feel such great need to put words in other people's mouth's .... I must suppose that is what religion does to people. Making it much better to have a spiritual walk as Religion lacks LOVE and RESPECT but as far as my eye can see is filled with hatred and superiority complex

Well what about hitler?? if you say he will not be punished is like saying god is not just !

i think hitler didn't have a walk in the park maintaining power and doing all that, not especially after the wars. how much hell he was experiencing, too, in hindsight, was left for a few people and him to understand fully. What is just in the standards of man, may not be exactly the same for the divine.

According to Christian's, if he accepts Jesus he goes to heaven, where as Jews that perished in the holocaust go to hell because they didn't know him. Wouldn't want to spend eternity with a G-d like that! Doesn't matter, Jesus isn't God, his son or the holy spirit!

While we know that our flesh dies not define G-D’s spirit which lives in us, Jews as myself know that purgatory / redemption is a cleansing of the soul before it returns to the oneness and innocents of G-D . Shabbat Shalom ✡️

It’s sad what happened to the chosen people. Such confusion. No concrete answers. The searching continues because they missed the Messiah. The end is here and Jesus is coming back and they missed it.

God give us the right to choose between good and bad. That,s because he loves us, and wants us also to choose good and God by free choice, that's true love and believe. Islam and also christianity say u have a free choice but when u do wrong u will suffer for ever in hell. This is not right and logical to let somebody do wrong and then punish him for ever. This is not God. When u do right in the physical live u enjoy your life, when u do wrong u have a miserable life, even people thing u are happy. Deep inside u feel miserable. The purpose of our existence is to get closer by God, in this life and after death. After death u see the hole picture and your soul get's closer by God. When Hell is permanent all your existence was for nothing and God is only a sadist who let people do wrong and then punish them for ever.... God is perfect and is infinitely so this is not possible.
