I live in Lexington, KY. Did I just hear Callipari blame his players instead of acknowledging his poor coaching? I mean, we are spoiled with great teams, but this many first round losses to mediocre teams is just bad coaching. Universities were once the home of student athletes. Not any more. It is painful listening to any of Kentucky's players talk...even about the game. That is what they cater to. That is what they get. No one on that team was willing to do the non-glamous work that it takes to win. Did you see Oakland boxing out? Not one of their players expects to play in the NBA. They played for pride. Best team won. Best coach won.

Dan is 100% correct looking at it from a fan's perspective. UK is going at it from a business perspective. 75% of these players get a pro contract and of these players, who get a contract, 74% get a second contract. Then after leaving KY, these players give back to the university in the form of donations to the tune of tens of millions of $$$ maybe more. The administration is totally happy with the way Calipari is running the basketball program. It's about the players, not the wins or championships.

As a Virginia fan, I’m not sure how to take this. Cal recruits one and dones, Bennett recruits to stay old and the state of college basketball empowers the players that would’ve been old by now to transfer. Is there a real approach? Virginia before one and dones/nil/portal was able to get old and stay that way. Cal always had the luxury of great freshman classes to get good players. I think there’s a dichotomy here of who can keep players and make their “system” work.

Bennett's system was such a refreshing opposite of the 1 and dones. But you're right I think the transfer portal has hurt UVA's model of developing young players too over the past few years. Plus so many busts in the last 10 drafts out of top 10 picks. More and more either busts or below expectations

Cal has Kentucky held hostage 😂😂 fans are sick and tired of him and I think the school executives are too but can’t do anything to him right now because of money

Calipari flaunted the one-and-done for years without hesitation. Now he's complaining that the other teams are older and more experienced ?
@Nighthawk-80502 ай бұрын
Calipari is a used car salesman not a coach.
@Chalk892 ай бұрын
To be fair, even a man like Jay Wright (who I idolized, grew up in the neighboring town) comes off like a salesman. John Calipari is not a swindler, he tells you like it is. However, his system is no longer innovative and has been replicated by everyone.

He's had amazing talent with only one championship to show for it...one and dones are good but you need a mix of older players as well...these older teams are together 3 or four years are dangerous....it's also about getting good character players, not only talented players...Cal "Worthington" has to go

I can see why Calipari is such a great recruiter. Hes the perfect salesman ie he's full of crap.
@juandoe78022 ай бұрын
Baffles me how he continues to get 5* players when they can see they don't actually do shit in March! Jay Wright and Roy Williams did more in the One-in-done era than anyone...imagine had they gotten a Zion, AD, Tatum, or other elite 5* prospects that have come in throughout the years during that span? Hell sice Roy Williams joined UNC he did better from that day forth than Coach K! The media and parents of these student athletes get brainwashed into thinking that only those two programs produce pros... I hope they keep it up though, so we can keep watching them fail.

Critical mistake….at a critical time. Yeah, that’s the worst time

Calipari blames the freshman, but that’s what’s he’s be doing at Kentucky for 14 years. His excuses are always “WE ARE A YOUNG TEAM”… No really?
@philliphancock69922 ай бұрын
Really young team lol . if you recall back when caliperi said quote: we need to start a new NCAA division and leave the NCAA. But it failed just like he's doing coaching, he's a failure completely

The one and done is the problem with this not John Calipari? You cannot force people to stay and grow to their potential because the NBA allows them one and done. Everybody is quick to blame Cal… And it probably makes him not even want to try because of the bullshit. He has to hear when he loses and then you expect to have a good attitude, which is bullshit.
