@@daycal9321 Yes, I agree. Even though Mack's Contract is done Sakic (VP Hockey Operations) had to sign off on the terms along with McFarland. Kinda wondering about McFarland if he didn't get GM, I believe other teams were shopping him.

@@marie2274 You are definitely right teams have been looking at MacFarland the last few years and with the Cup win he would have been plucked away so the cast was set for him to be GM sorta like what Vegas did. I think both have a good relationship with no egos and respect so it's a good tandem to have at the top for the Avs.

EXACTLY!!!!!! Covid shortened year, he was on pace to actually I think get 115 points and 40 goals. And this past year he plays 69 or whatever games and has 90+ points and 33 goals. Fully healthy on that team 40 goals and another 100 points. This dude is on another level and last year was a "down year"

To be frank, he didn't give a hometown discount like most people say. He signed for $6.5m when his production probably warranted $5.5m. He produced about the same first season of the new contract, and after the second season of it the deal suddenly looked very cheap.

He's still on his old contract this year and then even when his new contract kicks in he's just getting his old contract, Erik Johnsons cap hit of 6M, and 300k. If they don't win another Cup it won't be because of his contract. It will be because they can't afford all the other guys that were on team friendly deals like Kadri, Toews, etc.

You're dumb. McDavid signed his contract in 2017 and his salary at the time took up a higher percentage of the salary cap back then, than MacKinnon's does now. And when McDavid's contract expires in 4 year, he will make a lot more than 12.6 million, maybe even crack the 15 million. Matthews will also get a lot more than 12.6 in 2 years. Those are long term contract. The salary cap goes up, therefore salaries go up and both players and GMs know that and take it into their calculations. As a normal person with a normal job, you renegotiate you salary every year, professional athletes can't. You would never sign a contract for the current market value if it meant you'd have to work for that salary for the next 8 years, because guess what, in a few years, you'd be massively underpaid.

McDavid signed his contract years ago and obviously will be higher than MacKinnon with his next one.

McDavid is a great offensive player, not so much two way. Nathan is much better defensively and his team just beat McDavid's on the way to winning a Stanley Cup. So....
