Paul Bettany had such a sad childhood. Not sure if Stephen knew, but Paul’s younger brother died shortly before he dropped out of school. I wouldn’t hold that against Paul, but life choices are what you make out of it and Paul made the best one at that time.

I dont see how that'd get brought up or even why it would be necessary though. I've lost alot of people close to me at a young age and can easily say, if I was famous and on a talk show? It's the last thing I'd want brought up for the world to then discuss and ask me about.

As someone who is just a little younger than Paul Bettany and also from the U.K. it annoys me somewhat when Brits go on USA chat shows and just laugh along with the host’s incorrect statements about our country. At that time in the U.K. leaving school at 16 was still a perfectly normal occurrence, so much so that if you decided to do the two further years of education (which was, by law, optional) it was referred to as ‘staying on’. Leaving school at 16 for someone of Paul’s age wouldn’t be anything of note over here and would never have been referred to as dropping out.

@@Namirast I haven't read many comics in the past 20 years, so things may have changed, but Vision was a third tier character when I was reading them. 1st: Spider-man, the Hulk 2nd: Iron Man; Captain America 3rd: Vision; Submariner; Dr. Strange
@Namirast
@Namirast 2 жыл бұрын
@@TighelanderII The eerie series about the Vision family by Tom King was pretty good. But, if Dr. Strange is also 3rd tier he has his own series now, and MCU does a great job of developing characters that may not have been as popular in the comics. So I'd like them to make an arc for him, a story about White Vision regaining his former self back would be cool to watch.

Stephan, watch "My Fair Lady." Anyone may learn to speak with the posh "upper-class English" pronunciation. It is called Received Pronunciation or RP for short. It is not an English accent as it is not regional or class-structured in its origin or usage 3:13. It is a learned pronunciation method taught by speech professionals.. Anyone who can pay a competent coach in the use of RP and is capable of learning may employ it: most popularly for political, theatrical and academic professionals.

You may not be able to discern the difference of an Alabama accent from a Texas one to a Louisiana one. They are quite distinct if you hear them enough. And anyway, the Yanks don't care enough about any foreigners to hear or locate your accent. Most likely what you'd get is "Huh, speak English"

We honestly can't tell the difference, just as a Brit likely can't tell between Michigan and Montana, South Carolina and Kentucky, or even California and Maine, on totally different sides of the country. Unless it's cockney, it all sounds posh to us. Saying this as a West Coast American who studied British History in university and grew to hear the subtle differences.

It depends. For the average Yank who hasn't spent anytime in the UK, any British accent will do. For the Yanks who have spent extended time in the UK and have people educating them about the variance in British accents, they know the difference. Paul must know some of the general themes of Proust's Remembrance of Things Past to get away it for awhile. It probably wasn't until he said Remembrance of Things Past is a two-volume series, that Jennifer Connelly realized that Paul didn't know but was willing to overlook it.

Wouldn’t make much sense for vision to be in the Dr Strange movie. In the comics he went to Wakanda so he should be in the next Black Panther film

Watching this reminds of the first time I remember seeing Claire, she was playing this horrid witch and I recall thinking "how did they make someone so beautiful look so awful?".

I mean I read Proust (which I'm guessing is the book he mentioned, the English name is so different. Edit: well considering there's seven volumes, if she thought you'd read both she wasn't very smart either :P) when I was like 20 and I didn't feel any smarter, although it was a pretty interesting read if you can live with 30 pages-long paragraphs. Later on I read Joyce's Ulysses and I actually felt dumber afterwards so don't let anyone tell you you're stupid for not having read it.

Agreed. Jennifer must have overlooked the fact that Paul didn't know what he was talking about in regard to Proust's Remembrance of Things Past when he said it was a two-volume series.
