In some manuscripts we have only two variants : Yehôvah (eoa) Yèhovih (èoi). When juxtaposed to Adonay it always , invariably receives the full vowels of Èlohim " chataf segol- cholam- Chiriq" but when it goes alone it never gets the " chataf patach " of Adonay. This name is hidden but it is not lost !

There is a sheva, cholam, chiriq as well.

@@TheHebrewBible True ! It's easier to explain it when it only has 02 variants . But here it's quite complicated with yehovih ( shva , cholam , Chiriq) . That's not a genuine qere Ketiv at all, may be the scribes are trying to hide something ! What strikes me is the fact that in the middle of Qere -Ketiv , certain scribes have put a Rafé line on the final Hé of YHWH, which means that the letter is functioning as a vowel not a Consonant , something that has nothing to do with the vocalization of adonaY neither èlohiM. It surely belongs to the vocalization of the name itself ! We really need to dig deeper into Jewish Tradition , the Tradition that the Masoretes themselves were familiar with. Based on Ex 3:14-15 " èhyèh ashèr èhyèh " ,the name is derived from the verb HaYaH : to exist. And YHWH is the amalgam of "He was - He is - He will be", " HaYaH HoVèH YiHYèH" all in one gives YHVH . The Yod is the future tense The He and Vav represents the present tense. The final Hé is the past tense . The contraction gets to Y"HôV" aH , a vocalization found in the Masoretic texts. The meaning of YHVH , is also find in the Targum pseudo Yonatan Dt 32:39 , Ex 3:14 in the book of Revelation 1:4 ,8 ; 8:4 ,... The 03 tenses. May be that's the reason we have : YEHÔnatan YEHÔchanan ,... The vowels were retained and I think it should be retained when you place it at the beginning of those theophoric names. It's interesting also to notice that even with non theophoric names , the phonetic rules are unchanged as long as a name of a person or place open with YHV- : Yehudah Yehudi Yehudim Yehudot Yehud Yehudiah Yehuval Yehucal Yehôsef Yehudit Yehudush Yehudar,... But when you place at the end of the name ,it goes YaH- u , Which is a matter of the emphasis.

I’m a believer in Yeshua, I believe he is the Messiah. But I’ve had a problem with Christmas, it just seems like it’s too pagan and encourages idolatry. But what you have said here causes me to reconsider that it could be celebrated with the right heart.

Thank you so much for linking this to me. In my unscholarly ignorance I would like to make an observation. In this video it is really deconstructionism of the name YHVH, and is solely focused on that. However in light of how other Hebrew names seem to follow a pattern of Yeho- generally as a prefix, and yah- or derivative on the suffix, would this not also holistically provide a very strong case that the pronunciation is Yehovah? I am just not seeing Hebrew names beginning with Yah- is not the name of YHVH the foundation of all those Hebrew names? I'm trying to see the Hebrew in context. Not trying to be divisive. Just aiming for truth mainly for personal edification and my own journey. Thanks mate :)

I would like to ask can shewa be converted to Qamets . Or patach into qamets if it is in a longer form? I have seen a topic . That Yah is the short form of YHWH . And Shewa couldn't be the start of YHWH since Shewa can't be qamatz in short form Yah. I really love watching your videos. Hope you may provide a vowel chart and its changes when syllables differ.

What do you think is the possibility that the scriptures being Divine records that each pronunciation is scribed as it was exactly said by who said it. Making it a truly divine record, to the jots and tittles? Secondly is their strong evidence of different pronunciations used for specific authoritive functions? Not that YHVH obeys us but the correct way to ask in the authority of His Son The Living Word made flesh?

If I perceive that Biblical poetry employs rhymes with God's name across parallel half-verses, I find that Segol is the final vowel of the Name in some of the psalms and prophets. This is also how scholars figured out how Shakespearian English was pronounced.

I am aware of this suggestion. I guess a statistical study needs to be made listing as such rhyming cases.

@@TheHebrewBible There was a scholar at the Society of Biblical Literature annual conference who started a project or program for detecting rhyming patterns. It's something I would be interested in doing one day, but I'm currently spending my time doing a statistical analysis of Hebrew Cantillation melodies (comparing melodies from around the Jewish Diaspora).

@@TheHebrewBible The technique I use is to define which parallelism is being used. Robert Alter noted that only one kind is ever employed at the same time: hence a word that rhymes with the Name must not have anything to do with its etymology or symbolic meaning (because that would be semantic parallelism instead of phonological parallelism). We can infer that rhyming is being used when the verses surrounding the name are also using rhyming in the same positions. Then, when there is no semantic parallelism between the word parallel to the Name, we must ask ourselves if soundplay is involved. If the consonants are imitating those of the Name, we can assume the possibility thar the parallelism is limited to assonance. But if not, an argument for vowel-rhyming is most compelling in my opinion, especially if there is a pattern in the rhyming scheme: for example The Priestly Blessing. In these instances, I do not assume that the vowel points on the Name (as written) are correct, but that the correct pronunciation used to be a rhyme with a parallel stiche of the same verse that has been (maybe but not necessarily) concealed by the vowelization. With these considerations, I suspect that Psalm 12 originally had the Name in the shorter form of Yahu. This seems to conserve the rhyming scheme of the verses. But I confess that for this to be more than just a suggestion, the psalm has to be studied in more detail and in the context of more examples.

@@TheHebrewBible Hey what you guys think ? It's rare you only find it once in the Bible ! In the book of Ezechiel, like Ezechiel 6:1 , 7:1 ,12:1 , 13:1,15:1 ,... We have this phrase in Hebrew " Vayehi D'var YHVH ... " = the word of YHVH came to... That phrase occurs several times in the book of Ezechiel. In Ezechiel 1:3 , and I think it only occurs there , instead of using " VaYeHi d'var YHVH " it has " Hayôh Hayah d'var YeHôVaH " . Same thing found in Exodus 9:3 " hiné yad YeHôVaH HôYaH " ( or HôVaH) This " HôYaH " (Singular Feminin , verb HaYaH , present tense ) occurs only there in the Tanach . Instead of using words like : " Lehavi ,Meviah ,Tavi,..." It has the rare verbal form " HôYaH " and again , it's NOT necessary to place it there. Here is the most interesting ! 1Samuel 17:47 וְיֵֽדְעוּ֙ כׇּל־הַקָּהָ֣ל הַזֶּ֔ה כִּי־לֹ֛א בְּחֶ֥רֶב וּבַחֲנִ֖ית יְהוֹשִׁ֣יעַ יְהֹוָ֑ה כִּ֤י לַֽיהֹוָה֙ הַמִּלְחָמָ֔ה וְנָתַ֥ן אֶתְכֶ֖ם בְּיָדֵֽנוּ׃ {ס} And this whole assembly shall know that the LORD can give victory without sword or spear. For the battle is the LORD’s, and He will deliver you into our hands.” There is this word " יהושיע" (YeHôshia = Salvation) juxtaposed to " YHVH " , in its RARE spelling ! it is usually spelled WITHOUT the letter ה ( Yôshia =יושיע) throughout the Tanach , only 2 times it gets the letter the letter ה : one in Psalm 116:6 and the last one in 1Samuel 17:47 going " YEHÔshia YEHÔvah". The " YeHô YeHô :-) that perfectly rhymes in Hebrew! In the song of Moses : ( in Exodus 15 ) the first line goes : " Ashira laYehÔvAh ki ga’Ô ga’Ah " " YehÔvAh" with "ki ga' Ô ga'AH " perfectly rhymes , the "Ôh Ah " The assonance found in Psaume 118:25-26 : אָנָּ֣א יְ֭הֹוָה הוֹשִׁ֘יעָ֥ה נָּ֑א אָנָּ֥א יְ֝הֹוָ֗ה הַצְלִ֘יחָ֥ה נָּֽא׃ "Ana Yehôvah hošî'ah na' 'ana' Yehôvah haṣlîḥah na ." The " Ah " sound is repetitive!

Sir, It is FORBIDDEN to pronounce the Tetragrammaton. When Jews are in casual conversation and one says, "How is your Mother, Michael?" "She has recovered, Baruch Hashem." BARUCH HASHEM. It means "Bless The Name". We use "Baruch Hashem" when we are speaking of the Almighty outside of communal prayer in the synagogue. To use the name of G-d casually would be the same as using The Lord's name in vain. Hashem does not want good Christians to throw his name about casually any more than Jews. Another name of The Creator I use frequently is "Ribbono Shel Olam" which means "Master of the Universe". I hope you see my heart is in a place of LOVE. Right now, Hashem is forging true believing Christians and Jews into something we will all understand very soon. I applaud your efforts and pray Hashem Blesses them abundantly. Shalom!

What a waste of time. Think and do something worth the time. While you "explain" how to pronounce the name that is meant not to be said, misinterpreting the real meaning of the Torah, other people are producing vaccines, medicines, machines, thinking and teaching others how to have a better life. Do and publish something useful.
