Hi Greg, That’s amazing. I played a Wilson 8802 putter on couch greens in Cairns in the 80’s. Really felt like a big swing both ways. Then the first Ping putters arrived. They felt like they were straight back and through. I always play a toe hang blade putter. Just what I grew up with. Cheers

I probably should have a good look at the difference between a face balanced and a heavy toe hang putter. Results could possibly vary then. It could also be our eyes telling us one thing and data telling is another. The results here were definitely surprising as I expected a greater toe movement from the toe hang putter. Thanks for watching. 👍

This is really interesting - I bought a Visio Class 3 arc training mat recently and tested out my Phantom X6 vs Evnrol 1.2 blade and it was consistently easy to keep my arc on the same path, with very similar observations to what you have mentioned.

The torque we apply via our hands to the putter is far greater than any torque a putter head can apply to us.

@SydneyGolfTech

@@mikelytwyn3578 golfer launch their putts at different heights as well as miss the Centre of the putter a lot, so both have merit. My preference is the SIK as the Evnroll has very deep milling in the middle and I have to hit the ball much harder to achieve the same distance that I do with the SIK.

Thanks for the great video. I just purchased a slant neck putter (as recommended by my fitter), but always felt the double bend shaft would help keep the face square on shorter putts. However, I am putting great with the new putter and actually like the look and feel of the slant neck better. In addition, I think I can see the head/face of the putter better with the slant neck which helps me aim a bit better! 👍

Interesting video. I ve been a pretty bad putter for years. ALways used a face balanced mallet. I figured, that if i wanted to mix things up, better go to the other side of the spectrum. So I got myself an (old) yes! putter. Lots of toe hang and pretty heavy blade putter. Havent tried it yet, but cant wait.

I was fitted 2 yrs ago and was told I'm a face balanced stroke so I've tried a few mallets over this last year with not very much success at all. I then went to a blade this summer and honestly results couldn't be better. I can't believe the difference in results and consequently my confidence has rocketed with the blade putter

It’s actually a really complex topic that needs more investigation than this video alone. I’m glad you are having great results with a toe hang putter. I generally change the hang if the player could benefit from it, not because a type doesn’t “match their stroke”.

@@SydneyGolfTech yeh Thank you i believe you can putt with anything if you get used to it and a lot of success on the greens is down to proper reading and judgment. Much more important and what affects your game if you dont get fitted is the driver and irons.

fascinating. bought my first good putter today after demo in store (previous was a hand me down with clubset from step dad, and it was a quality putter). loved the look and feel above the others, drained some nice long puts (for an in store green) so pulled the trigger. get home, and i read 'strong arc' on a sticker on the club. so i started googling and was a bit concerned. came across this video. so many factors! maybe i'm a strong arc putter and have no idea, but i love the fit, feel and length of club!

Good video topic...i still think confidence and a good stroke , reading greens , pace etc are the most important things in putting - marketing i think does a great job in selling dreams to the player who is going through some confidence issues. Adam Scott is for me the perfect example. The guy is a golf manual's dream for the rest of his game especially swing and long irons but his putting has him looking for the miracle cure.

Couldn’t agree more, but as we now know, stroke and launch greatly effect pace and pace control. These are factors that can also help with confidence, so shouldn’t be overlooked. I suppose growing up I never had any technology to help, so everything was done with feel. There’s so many factors at play, so I try my best to have a small look at some of them. Thanks for watching. 😃

It's interesting that Ian over on TXG believes that he needs to change putter styles to help square his face or minimise face rotation and you've effectively countered that opinion with real figures. Could it be possible that toe hang or face balance will have no affect on some players? This topic has always peaked my interest theoretically, but I don't want to be changing that part of my bag.
@SydneyGolfTech
@SydneyGolfTech 3 жыл бұрын
I have always thought that the hands are far stronger than the weight or balance of a putter. However, I’m not saying that my data is gospel for everyone, but the head design had no effect on my face rotation or stroke. It’s definitely something I’ll keep looking at. I possibly could have tested a putter with far more toe hang to see if that changed anything too.

@Roenie's Gaming Empire I don’t think it’s hard to override the tiny bit of weight balance in a putter, no matter the length of putt, for somebody like myself with a good stroke, hence the video.
@SydneyGolfTech
@SydneyGolfTech 3 жыл бұрын
@Roenie's Gaming Empire one of the first things I check in a putter fitting is aim. If the player cannot aim a putter, we try a different head. A lot of people use a line on their ball these days, eliminating the struggle with aim.

Good info. By percentage of importance, how much weight would you give “feel/look/aimability?”

Aimability is the most important by far, but feel and look are both subjective so they can’t accurately be quantified.

Why did you just not put the other shaft in the flo head to take all variables out

@@SydneyGolfTech when I put with a high MOI putter toe hang does not make a difference . When I put with a blade I generally put straighter with a 60 deg toe hang as face control is a lot harder with a face balanced for me so maybe blade with max toe hang shaft and face balanced test epically with not so consistent a putter

@@ccmorgan53 Maybe you should putt not put, that might help!! Just kidding. Getting a 3rd putter fitting today (at Club Champion) in 5 years in search of a more forgiving double wide or triple wide blade with greater MOI. (Odyssey Tri-hot 5K blade) I really don't get on with mallet style putters. I've been told by 3 different fitters that I have a slight arc (20-30 degrees) to more of a face balanced stroke. They have used Quintic and SAM putting systems. I've scoured KZfaq to absorb all the experience of golf instructors and researchers and it's absolutely confused the Fuck out of me. A lot of what (SYDNEY GOLF TECH) says resonates with my findings and use of varied putter styles. I play to a 4 HP, but trying to stay with one putter style and stroke. Cheers!!

Your logic and analysis is flawed! Your stroke is a natural arc which is suitable for a toe balanced putter. Using the same stroke profile with a face balanced putter is going to produce the same figures on the computer because thats your profile. Providing you are returning the face to neutral and hit consistently from the sweet spot then it doesn’t matter which type of putter you use! However, the face balanced putter has a higher MOI and is more forgiving for those who lack consistency and, especially for those with a straighter profile!
@SydneyGolfTech

@@sadoldgit313 the experiment was about the effect of face balance on a stroke, which, as I stated, has little to no effect. Forgiveness and MOI had nothing to do with this experiment.
