Does Sea Foam gas treatment do anything?

I tried it in my GoldWing motorcycle and it's running much better now. Not sure if it was the Sea Foam or just running 2 tanks of fresh gas through it in a short time, or a combination of the two.

I use Seafoam in all my equipment. It has, in the past, worked wonders on a 2006 Yamaha bike I own. I have a 93 Goldwing with a Motor Trike kit and it has 108,000 miles on the clock. It gets a dose of Seafoam twice a year. It's great stuff!

@@pmaison It keeps the bike's carbs clean in that the bike can sit for two months and it will still start up and run without hitting on one cylinder. Saves from having to pull them suckers off!

My 97 wing sat for about 3 years with 1/4 a tank of gas and ran very rough when I bought it. I rode it the 15 miles home and dumped a full can of seafoam in it with a gallon of fresh gas then I ran the hell out of it. Smoothed right out to where you really could put a nickle on end on the head and it never moved. Great stuff. DO NOT however leave it in the tank over the winter. It will eat away at the rubber parts. Use a fuel stabilizer instead.

I have an old 1952 Massey-Harris 44 special tractor that has sat for 2 years and was going to take apart the carb and give it a cleaning this spring but I think I'll give it some seafoam instead. Thanks for the videos Gordon!

I brought my motorcycle in my shop last night to get into the carbs and do a cleaning and replace all the vacuum lines and whatever else I find once I get it opened up to where I can see. It did have a little trouble getting warmed up enough to drive it into the shop, maybe 3 or 4 minutes, a new one or when this one was new should have been ready within 10 or 20 seconds of starting. It was about 40 degrees out and it sat without being started only about a month. Better see my videos on cleaning carbs on small engines in my playlist of small engine repair. It's nothing to take off a carb on an old tractor to clean it.

I add a cap of Marvel to every tank of fuel on my motorcycles and small engines and never let them sit for more than a month on the same gas. If I know its going to sit longer I drain the gas and let it run until the carbs are dry. I had a 76 Goldwing In 02, bought it not running, stripped it down and built it into a cafe bike. Rode it around for a couple years and was offered a lot of money for it by some yuppie. Of coarse I sold it :)

I would like to do that on all my seasonal equipment but when the fall season is here I am so busy with driving full time, people calling to fix this and that before winter, and me trying to do the same for myself, I never get more than 1/2 of it done before winter is locked on tight.

I'm not knocking that Seafoam stuff, because I've not used it myself, so no experience either way. I might go as far as to say that at the point you were at, using anything couldn't have hurt, but I'd most certainly agree that: A) it seems to be running a lot better, and B) running a tank or two's worth of (fresh) gas through it was probably the lion's share of the "fix". I'm wondering if the original gas that was in it when you were having the problem, wasn't laden with more than the usual amount of moisture/water. If you had to run a lot with the choke on, I wonder if the float bowls weren't laden with water or some other chemical separating out of the gas, causing the floats to ride at a different level, or simply be starving one or more of the cylinders for a good supply of properly combustible fuel. Weird. But let's hope it was a one-time thing, and that you never have that problem again :)

I may do the carbs one day anyway. Maybe if I paint it, all the body parts will be off at that time. Thanks Stan.

Are you running gas with alcohol in it if yes how old is it? Phase separation happens in about 2 months. Do whatever you have to to get it out and before storage use alcohol free fuel. Remember the first gallon that come out of the hose probably has alcohol in it put that in a can or give it away it will destroy anything with a carburetor on it! I ran a small engine shop for 19 years.

You would apply a half can of Seafoam to the oil case and run the bike for about 20 miles just before doing a full oil change. Cleans the sludge out. Every oil change is fine. I wouldnt use it as an oil additive because it does thin out the oil and you would lose your lubrication values.

the alky in the old fuel soaked up water from the air in the tank. kinda makes it run funky, lol. probably went borderline sludgey too. seafoam is good stuff, or so im told. i know kroil is garbage, and you SURE dont want to be downwind of the exhaust until that toxic junk is burnt out, lol. the naptha in the fuel also disappears over time, so sometimes a small can of ronsonol lighter fluid, or even some charcoal lighter will rejuvenate geriatric gas. my bet is you didnt have any real sludging or gelling, the volatiles had just evaporated and the alky had gotten a bit waterlogged, so your fuel was just 12 octane "paint brush cleaner", lol

Could be, I don't know for sure, but I think I ran 1 tank of gas 3/4 through this season before putting in the SeaFoam, before that it had gas with Stabil in it from last fall and 3 or 4 times during the winter I started it up and let it run 15 or 20 minutes. Now it's running better that it has since I bought it. I've been riding it about 3 days in a row and it's doing great.

I ran seafoam in my bike a week ago and was averaging 44 mpg. After the run with over half a can in the 4 gallon tank and running it hard for 155 miles i got 47 mpg. I think the next time i am compelled to try the whole can. I always say i am man enough to screw it up iam man enough to fix it lol.

hi. I'm not a mechanic but I would like to ask. WHERE IS THE DIRT THAT CLEANS THIS PRODUCT ?? WHERE IT GOES IF YOU PUT IT IN THE GASOLINE AND CLEAN THE ENGINE. .INYECTORS. CARBS ..ETC ??
@57bagre
@57bagre 5 жыл бұрын
The dirt is gasoline breaking down and separating into different products that become solids and stick to the inside of the fuel system and cause fuel flow blockages. The treatment helps to melt the solids and mix them into the gas and flow through and burn like it should. It still won't clean completely but helps. Thanks for watching.
